Sorry, it came DHS, not UPS. But the included postage paid return label to return the defective one is USPS Parcel Post, addressed to:

Postage Due Unit
US Postal Service
PO Box 9998
Mount Juliet, TN 37122-9998

So either Dell screwed up, or the USPS did. Either way I'm using Dell's address as the return, because I don't want it back!

I think it took a few days to find out the info on the lithium levels. Dell probably already had the Business Reply account set up for other stuff, but I didn't see an email on our restrictions on this battery until this week.:)
Of course we've just really started cracking down on some of this stuff just this past year.

No problem with our 6 Dells over the years. Guess people confuse Sony batteries as a Dell product. Now Apple is having to replace millions. Wonder if Gateway or Apple will get bashed as bad as Dell. Oh I did build my own desktop for gaming, didn't want to pay Dells price, so I'm not a complete Dell addict.

There have been complaints for years about dangerous Dell laptop batteries. They announced they are recalling 4.1 million of them.

Sometimes it just takes a few batteries catching fire to get someones attention. :surfweb:

The problem with the Dell's is that they actually caught on fire. The Apples and the Gateways got extremely hot but they did not burst into flames like we have seen with some of the Dell's. They seemed to be able to handle the overheating better.

There will be more. It's just a matter of time. There will be other companies using Sony cells and companies that check their battery packs despite who made the cells. Given the visibility, nobody wants to be the next company that has a device burn because of this issue.

More info on the Apples and where to send them:

Just a quick bump on this:
Management told us today that we CAN take the returning batteries from both Dell and Apple, if they are put in a box supplied by those companies or their representatives and if they have the Merchandise Reply Label affixed.
They are definitely ORM-D packages, so they will only be traveling by ground, and can only be mailed in the 48 contiguous states, since they have to travel by ground.
Hope this helps anyone out there mailing them back.
