I used to get really concerned about what my view would be at the resorts. Then on my last few trips, I noticed that I rarely spent time on my balcony or looking out my window. The truth is, it really depends on what type of trip you are trying to have. If you expect to spend more time in your resort, relaxing, then view may be more important. My family is constantly on the go and when we are in the room, we are sleeping, so the view has really become irrelevant.

That being said, note that a standard view is typically a rooftop, service area, or parking lot. So if you don't want to look at those, you may want to spend a few more dollars and get a garden/water view. Other than that, it really doesn't matter to me.

For us, it really depends on how much time we spend in the room. Like when our kids were babies, we tended to be in the room a bit more often and got a lot of enjoyment out of a room with a full balcony and nice view. Then when the kids were toddlers, we liked the rooms where we could see Wishes or Illuminations at night -- it was just so much easier to be in our own room, kids in PJ's, snacks in hand while sitting on the balcony watching the fireworks. Now that the kids are a bit older, we just try not to have a parking lot view, but otherwise don't dwell too much on it.

Depends on the hotel and type of vacation. Not so important at WDW, since you don't spend that much time in room anyway. Last trip we stayed at contemporary and while we didn't pay extra, seeing pool not parking lot was nice. If we had gotten a lake view room though, we could have watched the little light parade on the lake at night, but kids were asleep by then anyway. When we have stayed at value or moderate resort, it is worth it to pay extra for the upgrade ... Not for the view but proximity to main building (especially if you are carrying a sleeping child)! When we take beach vacations, though, it is wonderful to get up and sit on balcony in morning & see ocean, but even then not worth more than a couple of hundred dollars. :)

Depends on why, when and who you are going with.

When I did a solo, no parks trip, view and location was very important to me because I spent a lot of time in the resort and resting in my room.

Last year, I had two young couples with children who were going to be out of the room and in the parks/pools the entire trip, so view was not important at all. We ended up with parking lot view, but no one ever went past our room; we had the entire corner to ourselves.

On the trip with my mom, we were more interested in being in a quiet part of the resort and not so much close to all the amentites. She also loves to walk, so she didn't mind the "hike" to the main building each morning and each night.

It really depends on a lot of factors.

It really does depend on what you want out of your trip.

For example, I did a two night trip to spend my birthday at Epcot during the Flower and Garden festival. Since I would only have one full and one half day in the park, I didn't care about the view so I booked a standard view at BC. I got a standing balcony overlooking the service area and entrance roofs. That was fine with me because the room wasn't far from the elevator so it was a convenient location.

However, I have a theme park view room at CR booked over July 3rd and 4th specifically so I can watch the holiday fireworks from my balcony. So for that trip, the view was the most important aspect when booking the room.

Most of the time I tend to book a garden/woods type room view if I'm going to be there more than a week, as I find those to be generally quiet and restful, as well as being less expensive.

As long as I don't have a parking lot view Im perfectly content! I have a childhood memory at the hard rock hotel where we had a parking lot view and everyone was complaining about it then my younger brother looks out and says nice we have the best view in the hotel :lmao:

Depends on the hotel. Our first trip we had a balcony in Kidani Village and we loved going out to see the animals every morning and sitting out there with DH at night after the kids went to bed.

Last year we stayed in the Contemporary Garden Suite and we were so grateful to get a room (last minute trip) that we didn't care about the view - and rarely looked out, even when the Electrical Water Parade was going on.

This year we'll (supposedly) have a Magic Kingdom view from Bay Lake, and we'll be spending more time in the hotel room, since it won't be a split-stay (like last year) so this trip will be more like our first vacation.

I only care about the view if we are staying at a resort with a balcony. I won't sit by a window but I could spend hours sitting on a balcony even at Disney - reading, having a drink before dinner, people watching, etc.

I agree with a PP that I will pay extra to not get a standard view, but at most WDW resorts I will settle for the Garden View, or higher, with a few exceptions.

View is unimportant to me - I'm not in the room long enough to have a moment of wistfully staring out the window.

If I did happen to get a room that overlooked the parking lot I'd be like 'ho hum, no biggie' I mean, even parking lots in Disney look much nicer than elsewhere :rotfl:

Again, as PPs have said, it really depends on what type of vacation you are after and what type of resort. If you are staying Deluxe and expect to hang out and relax at the resort or if you want to stay at AK and see animals in the morning whilst drinking your coffee then a view might be important to you.

But if you are there to do the parks from morning til night then save the extra money. Any ideas on where you'd like to stay?

For us the location is the first criteria, with view far down the list. We prefer a hotel that is convenient to the parks we love to visit, which for us usually means YC/BC/BW/Swolphin. If we get a nice view from the room that's just a bonus.

Put me in the 'it all depends' group!:rotfl2: But it really does. JMO, but at the value and mod resorts I think location trumps view. Especially since there are no balconeys and your window is open to a public walkway. At the mods we generally keep the curtains drawn for privacy, so why pay for a view?? I'd rather pay more for a location closer to dining.

The deluxe resorts are a whole different kettle of fish. First you have a balcony. If you're going to sit out on it, then a view is nice. Some, like a MK view room or a savannah view room are choices that MAY be worth the upgrade, depending on your preferences. It is for us on those special occasions when we like to splurge a bit.

Unless we are staying at the AKL where we would spend more time on the balcony/patio, the view is of no importance to us at all since we're rarely in the room (we're either at the parks, eating or at the pool).

I LOVE the view at Yacht / Beach Club, looking at Crescent Lake and the Boardwalk beyond. We pay to have a view just because it's so nice to sit on the balcony for coffee, or wine, and to unwind after a day in the parks. I have stayed at hotels before, where sometimes you get stuck looking at the back of an old air conditioner, or construction, or something yucky. So, we tend to always get a room with a view and balcony, if possible. This especially refers to Cruise ships!!!

the view is very important to us - when we stayed at the CR over the years, always got the MK view tower rooms - spent a LOT of time of those balconies, watching the day unfold, the sounds, sight, the castle changing colors thru the night...

and at the PC, we've always chosen building 3 (50s section) - got to hear/see the EP fireworks at night - very special!

we've chosen the EP fireworks view for next year at Dolphin - we're not late night people, so being in the room at night and (hopefully!) "seeing" the fireworks from our room is what we look forward to!

For us it's very important but a lot of that is because we've been to WDW so often and we spend less time in the parks. We love spending the late afternoon on the balcony looking at the activity on Seven Seas Lagoon. And at night with drinks and snacks we watch the Water Pageant and Wishes. Wouldn't be WDW without those.

I, like many others, am in the "it depends" camp.

On DH and I's first trip together (honeymoon), we had no idea what we were doing. We picked POFQ based on some pictures on the internet and our travel agent recommended a water view. This ended up being great for two reasons...when we stepped out of our room each morning, we had a gorgeous view of the river calmly flowing by. It also meant that we were in a quieter part of the resort which was great as a honeymoon couple.

After being at Disney as an adult, I had a better feel for the place and we decided on Yacht Club for our next trip based on the pool and its proximity to our favorite park, Epcot. The Yacht Club is pricey and we were there in August, so I figured we'd be spending a lot of time at the pool and thus, we booked the cheapest category room. We still had a nice view of some trees though.

On our most recent trip, my husband temporarily lost sanity and wanted to stay in the Contemporary Tower. We chose the Bay Lake side. I have to say, I really enjoyed coming back to the resort and sitting on the balcony every day. We had an 11th floor room (highest non-concierge) and the view was really spectacular. I'm not sure I'd pay that much for a room at Disney again unless I win the lottery, but I am glad I did it once.

We hope to add some little ones to our family in the coming years, so I'm sure my next trip will be quite different. I am thinking we will choose AKL (which the view will matter...I would only stay there so that kids could have a view of the animals), Poly, BC, or WL (the view would not matter at any of these places).

View isn't important to me, having my own balcony or patio is though. Last time we stayed at the WL and paid for a courtyard view, it was so hot and loud I wished I just had a standard view!
