Just a bit bored and got to thinking about the things from Orlando that are no more and I miss.

Race Rock. Great restaurant, excellent food, loved it and miss it.
The skyway ride in WDW. I know it was just a cable car ride, but I liked it. Was relaxing and a great way to see the park.
Back to the future. Awesome ride. Sad I'll never get to do it again.
Kong ride. Just fab. Rip.
I'm sure there are more, just can't think at mo.

Things that have gone that I never got to do and wish I had:

Trainland
Splendid China
20,000 leagues under the sea.

Anyone else got fond memories of things that are now history?

Oh, when did Train Land go? It still was there last year and is still listed on the I Ride Trolley maps. That is such a shame. We loved this attraction.

Been reading this thread with interest, and lots of "oh! Is THAT gone now?" and phrases like that...

I miss the ExtraTERRORestrial Encounter, I thought that was brilliant! Scared the crap out of me, but I loved it. There were a lot of very frightened children in there though, which is perhaps not very Disney... Stitch just isn't the same though

I'm sad to hear that Race Rock has gone, loved it in there too.

And the bus of characters driving round Epcot has gone? Awww! Better take that out of my plan for next year then...

No Yankee Candle shop? No need to take an extra suitcase then! And FAO Schwartz? I liked dancing on the giant piano keys on the floor! (Yeah, I'm 38...)

Lots of new attractions for me to look forward to next year though - Expedition Everest, Mission Space, Toy Story Mania, the balloon ride etc etc etc...

There still is a Yankee Candle shop at the Florida Mall as far as I am aware, but I used to love shopping at the one at Pointe Orlando, which "temporarily closed" about 3 or 4 years ago.

Its a new one but on our most recent visit, I REALLY missed the Virgin Megastore at DTD ! I didn't shop in it much, I just feel its not the same without it being there - we often payed a late night visit there and I really wanted to have coffee on the terrace one morning and people watch. I think its terrible that Dixieland Stampede is just lying there empty, we never enjoyed it when we went but still its such a huge building in a prominent place. Also miss Hunchback show, it was one of my favourites but going to go against the grain and say I DON'T miss Rosie O Grady's/Church Street Station, my Dad used to always make us go there when I was little and I found it quite seedy and scary, I also got my favourite jacket pinched there aged 12!

Cypress Gardens - not strictly Orlando though

Anyone else remember Circus World (near Cypress Gardens)?? - that was a LONG time ago now but I can still picture it...

Have they closed Cypress Gardens down AGAIN??? I know it had been closed for a while, but last I heard, they added some new attractions/rides and opened it up again. What a shame if it's gone again. We have loads of photos of the Crinoline Ladies from the 80's - guess my dad was impressed by them.

I remember those well. I loved having a Shirley Temple at Rosie O'Grady's when I was little. Watching Red Hot Mama belt out those tunes and seeing the Can Can Girls and the Hot Shoe Shuffle on the bar - oh the memories are coming flooding back!

Wild west show at uni used to be pretty good as well

I read once that in the MK they used to do a special hour first thing in a morning were certain characters would ride the rides with the children, I'm sure it was called something like "Special Openings".

It never used to interest me before having children but now so wish our little ones could ride say Dumbo with Mickey or Donald

I too missed out on Pleasure Island and been able to celebrate "New Years Eve" every night.

Those mornings for folks with little ones only lasted a year or two.

However, I did like watching Metamorphosis on the Pleasure Island Stage and then counting down "Happy New Year" every night!

Yes and no. They closed the park down again in November and it reopened in reduced capacity in spring. They are selling off most of the rides and the zoo part is closed. The botanical gardens, the water sky show and the water park are meant to stay open. The Southern Belles are also supposed to be still there. From what I have heard it is pretty much a ghost town nowadays with a lot of the shops and restaurants that are supposed to be open closed and the water sky show only on during weekends.

I recall going to something called Wild Bill's Dinner Show. I am sure it was on the 192 somewhere but haven't seen it for years.

1st trip was in 92, so i did discovery island, and river country and the mercado, and beltz....shame they are not around now...
i remember the ghostbuster ride/show at US....and the stunt show spectacular...the waterworld catamaran and the nickolodeon show.

Driven past it hundred's of times but never went on - to be honest before it closed most times it used to be deserted.

We went to Watermania - we did quite a lot of the more 'unusual' (in the sense that less people seemed to visit!) things, including Cypress Gardens and Splendid China. I remember having a great day at Silver Springs, too, with the glass bottom boats. It was very relaxing! These were all things we did in 96 and 97 on our first two trips.

Mind you, in those days my brother and I hated EPCOT! Now I find myself gushing over World Showcase to other people who don't seem to get it, lol

I also loved the Hunchback show - I remember meeting Clopin and Esmerelda outside afterwards, and Quasi was at a character breakfast along with the Genie, and Meeko from Pocahontas (strange selection, tbh!).
