From WorstPreviews.com:

Director Pete Docter spoke to MTV News, revealing that he cut a large subplot from his "Up" movie that previously included Carl Fredricksen protecting a giant egg that had to do with a fountain of youth.

"That was early on," he said. "We had the bird give birth to this egg, and Carl then felt like he needed to take this baby — it needed tending to, and needed to get home. [Carl needed to] get away from these awful dogs and things."

He added: "[The egg] had a larger picture involved with Muntz," Docter said of the film's geriatric nemesis. "Muntz wanted the egg because it was this youth potion that made you grow young. [He] was after the bird and all that; it was really interesting. But it kind of got more bizarre... it was an element that we dropped out from the story."

It does sound like a bit much; but it would have explained how Muntz had managed to have aged so well as compared to Carl who was easily 20 years his junior. (Which is not to say that Carl wasn't holding his own...)

This was my only qualm with the film... very strange how Carl aged so poorly compared to Muntz.

My children pointed out to me that there was a scene in the trailer that was not in the movie...that is why I looked at this thread to see if it could explain its absence.

The scene had them in the jungle hearing a growl...and another one I will have to ask my DD's again what the scene was, but when they said it I totally remembered it.

So I am thinking maybe it will be in the DVD release??/

Does anyone else know what I am rambling about...sorry I am probably being as clear as mud:rolleyes1

I think you're talking about the Upisodes that aired on Disney Channel. Their were three of them, but none of them actually appeared in the movie.
