Delayed flights

here’s the situation. My dd is on a flight back to MCO at 5pm today. We got word, a few hours ago, that the flight is now delayed. Not any options for changing her flight at this point. So, I know the flight is coming in from MCO and is also currently delayed. JB’s notification says to arrive at the airport at the original time. But, with a delay of almost 4 hrs, and it being a ridiculously small airport, that’s a nutty thing to do.
I was thinking that we can watch the arriving flight, from MCO, and base our airport arrival time on that flight’s timing. So if the flight departs mco at 5:00, vs 1:30, I could get dd to the airport around 7:30 for an 8:45 flight. I wouldn’t chance it if I wasn’t able to know when her plane would be landing
Does this make sense? And doable?

I thought of that, but there’s no way JB is going to fly in another plane from another airport!! Not when they have one already arriving, even if it is 4 hrs late!!

Just keep in mind that it is sometimes possible to "make up time in flight" - not four hours, but a significant amount and more if the flight is longer.
Oh, I know. It’s listed as a 3.5 hr long flight but it seldom takes that long. I have Flight Tracker so I can see where the plane is and leave home when the flight is two hrs out. We’re just 45 mins from the airport. Because it’s sooooo small, there are usually people still going thru security (you can see the gate from the security line!) as the arriving flight is still emptying!! So she’ll need just 30 mins at the gate.

Good luck with that. Hope the pilots don't reach the max working hours for the day and they end up canceling the flight. Co worker had a flight 2 weeks ago it as delayed 5 hrs they boarded the plane and then they were told the flight had to be canceled because the pilots were no longer legally able to fly anymore that day

Oh man, no kidding! That happened to me last Christmas. We had snow up here in Mass, so everything was delayed. Our pilots had been diverted to NY, so we had to wait for them to be on the ground, at Logan, before we could board the plane. By the time we finally got on the plane, we had to wait until snacks had been brought on, the plane to be de-iced. Had to taxi to a different place for more extensive de-icing. Then, back to the gate. Seems that this all took so long, the pilots had timed out!!! We were, at this point, 7 hrs past the original departure time. We had to deplane, and head to a nearby gate. The plane was moved there since they needed our gate to accommodate another flight. Then, we had to wait for new pilots to arrive. That took about 90 mins or so. It was crazy!!!

Thank heaven my dd finally was able to leave last night. I watched, via FlightView, the incoming flight. Got her to the airport about an hour prior to boarding. She should have been back in Orlando around 8:15, but instead, got there at midnight. Then had to get home to Kissimmee.

I know this worked out for you, but I'd be paranoid the airline would make an equipment change and the flight would leave close to normal. I flew out of Sanford Saturday morning. The flight was scheduled for 11a. When I woke up, I had a text saying the flight was delayed until 1p, but arrive at normal time. I was worried they'd put a new plane in, and since I was staying in Poinciana, I needed at least 90 minutes to get to Sanford. I ended up getting to Sanford around 9:30 (I would have targeted 9 if the plane was on time). The flight ended up taking off at 2. I had my iPad, there was wifi, I took some walks, etc. It wasn't really that bad a wait.

That was a concern...but I highly doubted they would bring in a different plane since there was a flight arriving from MCO and just turning around. There was no way JB was going to have a plane sitting, empty, in Worcester Mass nor were they flying it back to MCO empty.

Never say never. It's happened here in our little 5 gate airport. It can happen anywhere. Not with JB granted. But still, never say never. They usually suggest going at regular time for just this reason. If they can get equipment moved around to avoid the delays, they do

I would still go at the time you would have. If there are any other Jet Blue planes flying out of that home airport to other destinations , they may swap and take one of those to fly to MCO, thus delaying some other flights a bit, while not having your daughters flight be 4 hours late. They will shuffle around flights to avoid a lengthy delay for one specific flight. We just had that happen at Houston Hobby airport. Our connecting flight to MCO was taken out of service for a mechanical issue, so Southwest did a massive shuffle and changed 4 other flights to get us a plane immediately, thus causing 4 other flights to each be delayed aboyt 30 min.
