What are the possible reasons for breast tenderness? My areolas have been extremely sore since Friday evening. There have been other symptoms in that area besides being sore, but I'll leave that to the imagination.

Could you be pregnant?? That was one of my first symptoms!! :teeth:

Pregnancy was my biggest guess and that was my #1 symptom with each pregnancy.

Pregnancy, hormonal changes (which encompasses pregnancy :teeth: ), fibrocystic breast changes from too much caffeine...

Yeah, I have to agree with the previous posters. That was almost my first sign of pregnancy. It has been dead on 3 out of 3 babies!!

My first sign of pregnancy, before I even missed a period. My breasts were so sore that I could barely let water hit them in the shower. Then came morning sickness, the exhaustion, the food and smell aversions... :crazy2:

The only thing is, I've been on Ortho Tri-cyclen for years now. I did miss 1 pill but I took it the very next day. Maybe missing the pill could cause this.

Pregnancy for me, too.

But, I was on Ortho-Tricyclene for several years after Emily was born, and I complained about breast tenderness from time to time. My midwife told me that it was pretty common with this pill. The pill gives different doses of hormones each week, so it acts similar to how your body would be releasing hormones throughout the month. I can tell you I worried about being pregnancy every time, but I never was.

If you aren't pregnant, the tenderness should go away within a couple of days. If you are, look for it to get like luvmydogs described.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the info!!! I HIGHLY doubt it's pregnancy, but at least I know what to look for when I am. :thumbsup2

I always get tender breasts with PMS symptoms, but never sore areolas. Caffeine can also lead to tenderness. But honestly with the areolas being sore as well, I say pregnancy. The pill isn't 100% effective, but possibly the higher dose of hormones could do it. I'd test just to be sure.

I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on tv....lol....but when I had painful breasts, doc told me it was caffine. She was right. Pain went away with the caffine. The other ladies are right too, could be pregnancy.

How long ago was that missed pill? You would think taking it the next day should be OK, but you never know. My very first symptom of pregnancy was breast tenderness. This was before I even missed my period.

I don't drink caffeine so I don't think that's the cause. I didn't miss the pill until Friday. Which was about the same time the pain started. That's why I don't think it's pregnancy. But who knows. Anything is possible I guess.

Even if you didn't miss a pill, pregnancy is still a possibility--nothing beyond abstince is 100%. And I have a DS who calls me Mommy to prove it!!! ;) And pregnancy is the very first thing I thought of. Heck, with DS#2 I concieved on a Friday & had symptoms on Sunday morning
