Dedicated vs. Non-dedicated

I remember reading something about dedicated vs. non-dedicated rooms at BWV. We will be traveling with extended family next year (a two-bedroom plus a studio) and I am wondering what the pros and cons of each are.

It will be one family in the studio (2 adults plus one infant). In the two bedroom, it will be four adults and two children.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

BWV has no dedicated 2BR villas- all are lock-offs and will have a queen bed and sleep sofa in the 2nd BR.

There are a few dedicated Studios (called Studio-Plus) that have a small day-bed where the connecting door would normally be found. These can be requested, but are not guaranteed.

There are only dedicated studios, one bedroom and Grand Villas at BWV's. All of the two bedrooms at BWV are lock-off (non-dedicated) united, which means they are a studio and one bedroom joined together by a connecting door. Each section (studio and one bedroom) has it's own exit door to the hallway, whereas dedicated two bedrooms (at VWL, BWV, OWK and SSR) only have one door to the hallway, usually off the livingroom. A dedicated studio and one bedroom at BWV, is the same as a non-dedicated, with the exception that these units don't connect to any other room.

We stayed in both a dedicated 2BR and a lockoff on our last trip and I much preferred the dedicated 2 BR. The lockoff worked well for our group as it included our family of 5 and our friends (a family of 6). With the lockoff it felt more like two seperate rooms that had a door you could open, and that was fine seeing as each family needed to sort of have their own space, but for a big extended family I'd rather have the dedicated 2 BR so it feels more like you are staying together.

Which resort was that? As far as I know, there are currently no dedicated 2 bedrooms at BWV. Rumor has it the rooms they are building where the models were might be dedicated 2 bedrooms.

Your stay must have been at a resort other than BWV since there are no dedicated 2BR villas at BWV.

OKW has both dedicated & non-deciated two bedroom units. I have a dedicated two bedroon listed on my reservation for an upcoming trip. I didn't ask for either, but it shows up as dedicated.

I beleive all the on-site DVC resorts with the exception of BWV have dedicated 2 bedroom units as well as lock offs. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

I would suggest a non-dedicated or "lock-off" for the family with the infant anyway. They will probably need the small kitchenette for bottles, formula, etc. That way they would not need to go to the main kitchen for midnight feedings. The dedicated doesnt have this small kitchen.

Never mind- I misread your arrangements- the studio you get aside from the 2bd will be a dedicated studio no matter what- therefore will definetly have the kitchenette.

Pros of a non-dedicated:

Seperate entrance
Kitchenette

Cons:

Seperate entrance - with young kids some people don't want them wandering out.

Personally, with two families I would really prefer non-dedicated - which allows the second couple to "have their own hotel room." We did this last year with my mother in law. Although we used the space as dedicated - she did make her own pot of coffee in her room and they were able to come and go from their room....which they used when that door was more convienient. I think its also nice insurance for getting some "space" from each other. If you decide to split up in the mornings, they don't need to trapse through your breakfast for their EE morning.
