Okay.. real real newbie here.. I just found a thread with the dedicated and lock off words... and I am still really lost....

Here is my story...My husband and I and three kids are taking my sister and her husband and four kids to Disney Thanksgiving. I want to get a 2 bedroom villa.. Do I want a dedicated or lock off and why?

Thank you for your help!

With 11 of you, you will need a grand villa. If you are getting 2, 2 BR units, get a dedicated. The lock off will have an exit door and patio/balcony, and kitchenette. The exits might cause a problem with young children.

Have a great trip.

Okay... so the difference btw a dedicated and lock off ... is

the lock off has a kitchenette?

a dedicated.. was that what was in the model? it was a seperate bedroom. Does it have an exit door? Does it have a balcony?

A villa would be nice, but I can't do it. We have two little ones, so we will make it in a 2 bedroom ... it will be tight, but if they want a free night.. they will squeeze and enjoy it! :rotfl2:

The lockoff can turn into a studio and a one bedroom - so there is a kitchenette and a seperate door to the unit. There is usually a queen bed and a pull out full sleeper (except at OKW where studios have two beds). These are especially nice with other adults or seperate families - but some people worry about their kids using the door to the hall. BWV ONLY has two bedroom lockoffs, there are no dedicated two bedrooms. Since BW is home and we have kids, we've done it numerous times without issue - and our kids (who are nine and ten now) think its REALLY COOL to have their own fridge and microwave. We stock them with some milk and cereal and they play house in "their room." (With younger kids, the bolt is high enough that your kid won't wander by accident - though they can get out if they pull a chair over).

A dedicated will not have a second door or a kitchenette. It at anywhere other than BCV it has two beds in the second bedroom - at BCVs some have two beds, others just one (this is a booking category - two bedroom with two queens).

I think a two bedroom lock off is really a 1 bedroom + a studio. A dedicated two bedroom is a 1 bedroom + the second bedroom has two beds in it. What the prior posters were trying to tell you was that a 2 bedroom at AKL will only allow 8 or 9 people maximum, unless you have small children that sleep in a play pen / crib then they would not count in your total. Basically you would have 2 people in the master bedroom, 2 on the pull out couch in the living room, 1 in the sleep chair if you are lucky to have one, and 4 in the other bedroom. A grand villa will sleep 12. Check your book from MS or call and make sure the 2 BR will work for your entire party. They will ask the names of all the people in the unit. Good luck!
