Dedicated 2 BR or Lock off?

We are aware that when you book a 2BR you get either a dedicated or a lock off. Have booked for August next year, my husband and I will be sharing one bedroom with our youngest son, giving the master bedroom to my parents and letting our teenage son have the sleeper sofa in the lounge - gives him some much neede space!

The confirmation has come through as a dedicated 2 BR. Not sure which is better? Have seen a comment somewhere which says some 2BR don't have separate access to the bathroom (that would be best for our teenager) and you have to go though the second bedroom.

Does anyone have experience of this? All th efloorplans we have seen seem to show dedicated 2BR not lock off.

We have booked our home resort SSR at the 11 month window to guarantee but are planning to switch to OKW at the 7 month window.

Most of the time they will give a dedicated 2 bedroom instead of a lockoff because they could still split the lockoff into a one bedroom and studio.

Personally, I wouldn't give away the master bedroom. I like the king bed and the private space. My guests always get the second bedroom. How old is your second son? Could he share the second bedroom with Gramma and Grandpa? Sometimes grandparents like the opportunity to spend a little more time with their grandkids. Or the two boys could share the queen sleeper. At OKW, there is also a small love seat that you can make up like a bed (not a sleeper sofa, though) and the little one could sleep there.

There are two bathrooms in the 2 bedroom unit. So whoever is sleeping in the living room can use either. There is no kitchenette in a dedicated two bedroom unit, only the full kitchen. That space is then turned into closet space or the door into the second bedroom. In other words, you'll have a little more room in the second bedroom than you would with a lockoff.

In the lower numbered OKW one and two bedroom villas, there is no door from the laundry room to the master bathroom, so anyone other than those using the second bathroom must enter through the master bedroom. I think it is Bldg 29 and lower.

No patio/balcony off the second bedroom of a dedicated two bedroom either. I'm sure of that at OKW.

Thanks for that - we'll certainly try and get a higher numbered building!

My eldest son has Aspergers and needs his own space - hence the plan to let him have his own "bedroom" in the lounge, particularly at night when he has a set routine which goes on befor efinally getting into bed.

My parents have been to Florida with us quite a few times and as we come from the UK and the travelling is quite tiring for them as they grow older, this will be the last time they plan to come and we want to make the trip and stay that extra special which giving them the master bedroom will do.

Shame about them not having a balcony though - but I did see from the floor plan that the main balcony is a good size and has a table and four chairs - enough for the four adults anyway.

Actually, the second entrance to the master bath (which I'm guessing you are referring to above) is not a function of dedicated or lock-off. There was a design change during the building of OKW. If you want the 2nd access to the master bath through the laundry room for the person on the couch, request to be in bldgs 30 or above. These buildings are further from the main check-in area, but have the advantage of usually being quieter and more peaceful, as well as the 2nd bathroom entry.

Have a great trip.

No dedicated 2 bedrooms at BW so if you ever book there, you will get a lock off.

The rest of the resorts, our experience has been unless you request to book a lock you will be given a dedicated 2 bedroom. Unless you need the extra outside door I much prefer the dedicated as you get more closest space.

At the new resorts you will also have living room access to the Master Bath.

As Chuck said it was a floor plan difference at OKW in the building built first that only allowed access to the Master Bath though the Master Bedroom. As they built the later units they opened the Master Bath up by putting a door in the laundry room into the Master Bath. As Chuch said that is buildings above 30.

The second bedroom bath is accessible from the second bedroom.

At non OKW villas the dedicated 2BRs second br seems larger to me than the master as the tub takes up a huge amount of room in the master. There would be 2 queen size beds in the 2nd br (usaully), so if anybody likes their own beds that would be the bedroom. The master has a walk in shower which may be easier for elders.

A lock off 2 BR makes the 2nd BR smaller, but it gives you more isolation- ie whomever is in the 2nd BR could get up, shower, make coffee/tea, go out for a walk or whatever, and never bother the others in the unit. The extra entrance door allows travel in/out without going through the main living room.

We prefer the dedicated but both have their own advantages.

I don't think dedicated vs. lock off matters as much in your case, but the bathroom entrance does.

At OKW, the master bath (toilet & shower) is also the bathroom for someone sleeping in the living room, essentially. Is your son OK with sharing the bathroom with Grandma and Grandpa? If so, then ask for a higher numbered unit so you get the 2 entrances to the bathroom, so son will not have to actually walk through Grandma and Grandpa's bedroom to get to the bathroom. If son is not OK with sharing Grandma and Grandpa's bathroom, then he will be sharing yours in the 2nd bedroom.

You say son has Asperger's and some ritual behaviors and such. You are aware that having him on the couch will put him in the middle of the livingroom, which is the largest living space in the unit? Will it bother him to be in the middle of it all and doing his bedtime rituals? Also, will he sleep late in the morning, thus necessitating everyone tiptoeing around so as to not wake him? You may want to reconsider and have your two sons share the 2nd BR with you and DH on the couch.

However you do it, have a wonderful time!!!!!!!
