OK I have stayed far far away from eyelets. I must admitt I think they look great on the pages and love what they do for vellumm.
But I know if I start I will want them all! LOL! What else!
I saw brads and wondered do you need a tool to put them in? Do you have problems with the paper if you just put them through?
Wondering minds want to know!!!

You do need a "tool" of some sort to put the hole to put the brad through.

I have used sewing needles with some success. A hole punch works well too.

I am sure you could do it without, but it is easier, and neater with a tool!

BTW...you are right about the eyelets. You would end up buying them all. Ask me how I know (gg).

You're right, Spinning! I thought I didn't need to clutter my work space or albums with eyelets. Then I got a kit for Christmas with eyelets in it and I HAD to use them. Now I'm hooked! They look good and I'm finding more uses for them
I can't believe how into embellishments I've gotten, considering I usually have simple pages. I did a page yesterday with little clothespins on it!:o
Oh, and I haven't used the brads in my kit yet but I think I'll use a small hole cutter from my eyelet kit so I don't tear the paper. I'm sure a small hole punch would work as well.

Go buy some eyelets...Go buy some eyelets...Go buy some eyelets....:p

I too love eyelets and brads-they are great!!! Brads are a bit different than eyelets, the back constists of two tiny prong which you spread out and flatten. You don't need any special tools to use them. I have found what works best is to make a tiny slit with my exacto knife and then just slid the brad thru, I use small brads so if I used a hole it would fall right thru, with the slit it stays nice and tight! Have fun!

I second what grover said. If you are using printed paper, you can just slide your brad thru and it will punch the paper by itself, then it stays there nice and snug. If you are attaching it to cardstock, just make a tiny slit with your exacto and presto!

Have fun, you WILL get hooked! :p

I 3rd what grover said. I just use my exacto knife to make a small slit. They are great and don't wake anyone up in the middle of the night with your hammering in those eyelets. I was hammering last night at midnight and FREAKED my dh out of bed. (OPPS.....).

Gotta love the exacto knives
Some of the brads have sharper little points on the back though - and you can just push them through the paper 'CAREFULLY'.

My DH got up and tried to answer the door last night when I was hammering my eyelets in. Told me next time to tell him when I am going to do something like that - quess I scared him!
:)

WARNING: I started with brads - then oh my eyelets were the natural progression! Your on your way already Spinning... :)

You guys are so funny . I started using brads a few months ago and just started using the eyelet's this week. Yesterday my son and I were the only one's home so I thought it was a good time to start hammering. He came flying downstairs because he thought I was knocking for him. :) ( whenever one of the family members need him and we are downstairs we usually knock on the wall to get his attention . If he is not at school or work this is where he can be found ).

By the way , I love working with embellishments now , but my husband in his own little way of helping me find new things to use brought me a whole stack of mini erasers ( you know the kind with the different shapes ? ). He said he knew I could use them on my pages somehow. He even brought me some pipe cleaners ( now what I am suppose to do with these I don't know ) . But I think its sweet that he cares enough about my hobby to try and help. :o He even brought me a executive chair for my scrap space so I could be more comfortable. I guess he is a keeper ( at least for another year ).

:) Your dh is SOOOO funny! That is very cute!
good luck with th eraser and pipe cleaners :)

I bought little hinges the other day - haven't figured out what I am going to do with them yet though! :)

Another question about brads? (Spinning...you're gone..so I'm hijacking your thread. :D )

Once you spread the 2 prongs on the back side of the paper... do you put anything over the prongs to keep them down or keep them from rubbing on the back of the other layout that shares the sheet protector? I guess I was thinking tape or scrap of paper?

I haven't used brads yet....so I don't even know if this is a problem. I'm "going there" this week however. LOL :teeth:

I used eyelets first time this week. My "dark side" addiction is growing FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Question Splashmnt99-
You could tape it if you need to - or put an extra piece of paper between the layouts - I use Creative Memories albums so I don't have that problem. I won't but anything through the pages in the book - I'll put them on another piece of paper then adhere that paper to the page.
Did that make any sense? I hope so!
As for secure purposes - nothing else is needed.
