Decoration Issues On Halloween Rant

With all my zombie issues, I forgot to mention I was checking out Halloween decorations & two things struck me...

1) Maybe one in every 10 houses had any decorations in the previous neighborhood we lived in. When we were living there (less than 2 years ago) decorations were all over the place. It was even worse in previous one we lived in before that. Keep in mind that this was around 8:00pm on Halloween night. Thankfully the people in our old houses were doing their part. So does nobody even care or is it a severe case of laziness?

2) I saw 3 houses with Christmas lights up & on! I'm not talking about the purple or orange Halloween lights either. Two had the red, green, blue lights. One had white lights, which I might be able to accept...but they were the icicle lights. I don't have an issue with someone a little eager to throw them up & I might even be willing to deal with someone that decides to light them the week before Thanksgiving. But c'mon, on during Halloween?! Lookit, just because the mall is always jumping the gun doesn't mean you have to be an obedient little consumer & make your yard look like an aisle of Target.

Well Jeff I for one an in envy of those folks who have their Christmas lights up, :D . I mean lights in Oct., now that IS scary.

We are going to NYC for Thanksgiving and I would like dh to get the lights up soon. Jeff I am one of those have Christmas decorations up at Thanksgiving people. (I tried for Halloween but they wouldn't go for it, lol)

I plan on putting them up for my brother when we get a day or two of nice weather here. I'll put Santa hats on the pumkins!

I don't get Halloween decorations. It makes it seem like just another commercial holiday. So, in this house it is not laziness but the fact that I don't like halloween.

I don't do outside Christmas lights, but I like to try to get my Christmas tree up on Thanksgiving while the turkey is cooking..

I bake hundreds and hundreds of Christmas cookies so I like to get the decorating end of it taken care of as soon as possible..

They don't call me the "Cookie Queen" for nothing! :) One year I was just too busy (as well as being a bit depressed) and decided not to make the cookies.. Yikes!! I thought I was going to be lynched!!!!

I did a few double takes in my neighborhood, as we were driving through last week. I saw 3 houses with Christmas lights on. Maybe the 'norm' is slowly going towards 'leave 'em up and on all year round'.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it per-se, but it does seem a bit early to be putting up Christmas decorations. . . maybe they just haven't gotten around to taking down last years? LOL!! ;)

As for Halloween decorations. . . since it's not really a religious holiday, I can't see how it's anything but commercial. And it does seem to be a tradition that is slowly but surely dying out; with more and more parents taking their kids to malls and private parties rather then letting go door-to-door, I guess a lot of people don't see the point in decorating their houses any more. . . :)

I love Halloween but I've never decorated the outside of the house. We're not usually home on Halloween so the trick or treaters aren't missing out. Now the inside is another matter... ;)

Decorating for Halloween (IMO) is a relatively new phenomenon. While I was growing up there was an occasional scarecrow etc. on someone's lawn but that was it. Lighted accessories only came out a few years ago.

Personally I don't think anyone can be called lazy for not decorating for Holidays - it's either something you're into or not. I decorate for Christmas only. I think I represent the majority. The only decorations that are put up for any other holiday are things my kids make.

Maybe the 'norm' is slowly going towards 'leave 'em up and on all year round'.

LOL I saw a guy taking his down at the END of July, I told DH the guy should have just left them up at that point he, he was closer to next Christmas than he was to last Christmas.  Seriously one of my BIG pet peeves.

P.S. We don't really decorate for Halloween, we save our energy to do it up right at Christmas.
