We will be staying at the HOJO for our first ever trip to Disneyland. We always decorate our room when at Disney World and it has become something we look forward to doing each year. Do people decorate the windows and doors of their resort room at Disneyland like people do at the Disney World resort do?

Sorry cant help ya .. all the times we have been over there , we have stayed in West Hollywood area
Thou we had a xmas tree in the room in dec 2003 :santa:
i thought about goin for a tin of paint and decorating it like at the time ...
was probably worse place we ever stayed lol

i think the sign read .... LAST CHANCE MOTEL

Ya know, I asked a similiar question a few weeks ago and really didn't get a straight answer:confused3. My take on the HOJO hotel would be no, only because it is not a Disney property. Call the hotel, the worse they can say is "no".
We are staying at DLH this time. The kids and I have already started coloring and brainstorming. I hope DLH won't mind that we will decorate, we won't be using anything that will vandalize their door and we will definately clean up after our selves, AFTER we take lots of pictures.;)

I have been to both WDW and the DLR resort many times and I have seen the decorated doors/windows in WDW (the xmas ones are especially cute), but never in DL. I don't think people do that in Disneyland (other than a little banner inside the room or balloons for a birthday or something). I don't know if that means that you can't do it. I think the fact that when staying on WDW property you are in "Disney" territory and mostly everyone in the hotels is there for a family vacation... But when you stay in DL it is likely that you are off property and most hotels are on busy streets in a busy city, with some Disneyland vacationers, some conference people, and some so. cal visitors etc. Just be careful about what you put on the outside of your door or in the window. In Anaheim I wouldn't want my name/info/last name/what we are celebrating or anything on my door, where anyone could wander up and see it.

The only other reason I could think that this hasn't caught on at DL is that people don't stay at Dl as long as they do at WDW. When we go to WDW we are usually there 7-10 days, where in DL we are usually there 2-3, and I think a lot of people do short trips to the DLR.

But you said you are at Hojo right? The people there seem pretty nice, I am sure you could hang some stuff up inside the room like balloons or a banner or something. And if you are unsure just call them and ask.

No, people don't really decorate at DL. Like one of the pp's said, it's probably because guests don't stay as long as they would at a WDW property.

Remember, Hojo is not part of the Disneyland Resort, it is off-site, so that is quite different than WDW resorts.

I know that you can decorate the door or your room if you use painter's tape or some other easy to remove without damage adhesive. Some of the ladies in March put out lime green Mickey heads and other decorations on their doors (and windows). I don't think it is very common at DLR though - this is the first time I saw it (even at the GC).

Bottom line - you can do it (at some hotels and I would check first!), but most people do not.

Sad, I know.... but the others are right - you just don't do it here at the DLR hotels. In all the many times we have stayed over (and we're DVC, so that happens a lot) we have never seen it done.

Honestly, it's probably because the resort is in the middle of a VERY large city - not in the "safe bubble" that WDW is. The resorts don't have the security that the WDW ones do - it's more open to the public, so just anyone can enter the resorts and the buildings and halls. That brings a bit of hesitation to reveal one's identity in such a public way - something that is very Los Angeleno in nature... people here tend to put up "personal walls" - something not as prevalent in the WDW tourist culture.

On a side note, as someone who would consider doing it in WDW, I think it would seem VERY out of place at the Grand Californian, with the heavy woodwork and style of decor in the halls - almost too nice to even touch (kind of like at the Grand Floridian). The DLH and PP would seem more likely places for it, but it just isn't done.

I was completely blown away when I saw what the people do at WDW. Growing up and going to DLR, I have never seen anything like the pics I saw. It never occured to me. I'm sure it does have to do with the hotel being off property. Personally, I wouldn't do it because I don't want to bother with it and if I'm back from the park I'm too tired. Also my boys are older and wouldn't be interested in that. I can see how kids would have fun making decorations though. If I were to do something like this, I'd keep it inside the room, not in the window, and not announce to others in the hotel that this room has kids, and we will be out all day at DLR.

I agree and disagree with you nancy. I have stayed at GF many times and I would decorate my door there...well I would leave a lil note inviting other DISers to sign in and say hi! I usually stay at the WL and would do the same there. This dec will be our first trip home to AKL and I will do something there.

Some of those people however go nuts and to me...taking it too far is silly. But at least they have that disney spirit! :goodvibes
