Hi..I don't post much but I lurk a lot..that sounds scary doesn't it?? lol I just wondered when do most people decorate..tree, outside lights ? I would love to put our stuff up but I'm afraid the neighbors would think we're nuts.. so when do you all start getting your house ready for the holidays?

We put up the tree and do all the decorations on Thanksgiving weekend.

I bought my son a small tree to put in his room this year, and he is insisting on putting it up on the day after Halloween, however, so I guess at least his room will be decorated soon.

My son will be home from college the week of Thanksgiving, so we will put the tree up while he's home. I used to do it the week after Thanksgiving, but these days we like to do it when he's here.

My DH always says our house looks like "the north pole exploded". The inside of our house is always really decorated.

We start putting the inside stuff up after Halloween. My DS is 3 & loves it all, so I like to put it up early.

The tree we get the first weekend in December & put it up. The outside lights we will put up when we get home from our Thanksgiving visit back east, so probably the first weekend of December also.

Thanksgiving weekend. Black Friday, to be exact. :teeth:

right after Thanksgiving. I can't wait either :woohoo: I have about 99% of my shopping done too. But that's b/c I HATE cold weather!!

I usually put mine up about 2 weeks before Christmas. I don't like looking at the tree for more than 3 weeks. I was just thinking yesterday about what I wanted to put out in my yard this year.

I passed by a florist shop earlier today and they already had it decorated for Christmas. I don't know how they could look at those decorations for 2 months. IMO, I'd go crazy.

We do ours Thanksgiving weekend also - since I get off Thurs, Fri, Sat & Sun and this year I will that next Mon off as well since its my bday. But I really want to get the boxes down and start sorting it out so I ready to put those lights up right away. Every year I get more and more lights. I will never be anywhere near the Osborne lights but I try!! LOL

I think the OP is a troll. :teeth:

I am very offended that you migh think to put up Christmas decorations in October!

I am so far behind this year, it isn't funny. I have had no time to look at catalogues and on-line since I changed jobs. It stinks!

Well, I'm going to do things differently this year. Usually I wait until the weekend after Thanksgiving weekend. We go out of town to my sister's house for Thanksgiving. In the past few years...things just get so busy and I don't get it done the way I like. So THIS year....I'm doing it before we leave for Thanksgiving. With the exception of our tree, which we'll put up as soon as we get home, all decorations will be up. I am hoping to have the majority of our presents bought also. I hope it goes as planned this year!

we always spend the day after thanksgiving putting up the tree and decorating...I cannot imagine doing it earlier as I am not that organized..and I cannot imagine not having it done in those 3 days after thanksgiving. Its sorta a tradition for us to get the tree up and decorated then sit and watch movies and have eggnog..sort of our little kick off to the christmas season.

We usually decorate on Thanksgiving weekend. I don't like to decorate before that because I think Thanksgiving deserves to stand on its own and not be overshadowed by Christmas decorations. And, after Thanksgiving is over I'm too excited for Christmas to wait until December to decorate! So, Thanksgiving weekend it is! :goodvibes

If we get a warm snap in November :beach: I put my big outdoor lights up on my roof eaves first since I don't want to do that in icy or wet conditions. My other stuff is mostly ground level or just a matter of opening a few windows so weather doesn't matter so much. I don't go live with my lights though til December 1, but I'm wired in and ready to go sometime in November. :thumbsup2

I'll probably decorate sometime around a week before Thanksgiving, but the outside stuff won't be "on" until after Thanksgiving. I usually try to decorate my grandmother's house on Thanksgiving weekend, and doing two houses on one weekend is too much; so I want to do mine early.

Growing up, we always decorated Thanksging weekend.

We don't put up exterior decorations but I plan to have the interior decorated on November 1st. .

I do the outside either the Mon, Tues or Wed. before Thanksgiving. The inside I do Thanksgiving day.

This year we are decorating the outside Thanksgiving day and the inside the first weekend of December.

We travel at Christmastime so on our about Thanksgiving weekend is when I put wreaths on all the doors and I have two huge picture windows in the front of my house (1st&2ndfloor) and in each window I put a fiber optic Christmas tree and one in our living room!!!
