I posted this on the scrap boards, but thought I'd most likely find the answer here. (I HOPE!)

Hi All! My DD insisted that I get the BIG MUG from Michael's to decorate for her teacher. I don't have issue with designs and such as the Cricut is a girls best friend But is there a way to "seal" the mug? Since it's already glazed ceramic, I didn't think Mod podge or anything like that would work.
Any tips and ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

There are special paints formulated for painting on already glazed items or more transparent paints for glass. You paint them on, then heat-set in your oven at about 300 degrees. They don't need sealing as the heat-setting makes them permanent*.

*Do not, how ever use a scrubbie pad when washing, or it will scrub off the paints.

Also, do not apply to the rims of a mug, where the lips will constantly touch, or on the inside of a mug, or on the middle of a plate that will constanly come in contact with food. (Plate rims are okay. The back side of glass plates are fine.) Since these are really (semi) permanent paints that do not melt into the glazed surface, but only remain on top, they may leach off, over time into the foods or drinks. So to be safe, you want to place these in places where the foods will not be. :)

You can find these oven bake paints at Michaels and other craft stores.

Here are the two brands:
Pebeo Porcelaine

Pebeo Vitrea for glass
Delta Glass Paint

ImZadi

Thanks for the tips. My daughter (5) wants to try to glue die cuts onto it.
It's a big Jumbo mug. It's more of a fill with pencils and pens/rulers kinda thing.

Ever work with cardstock mediums on ceramics? Thanks again!
