Okay so i could use some help here...im on the disney cruise site looking at possibilities for a 2012 cruise, so i know what id like to re-book for when on the dream next week....they have an oceanview stateroom on deck 2, and then the second choice is another oceanview on decks 5, 6,7, or 8 for an additional $100....so whats the deal...why are those decks "better" than deck 2, for the additional bucks?

Just guessing here but perhaps it is the view. I think the prices typically get higher as you move up decks.

I think it's just that they charge more the higher up you are. I read a review (sorry i looked for the link and couldn't find it) that gave Deck 2 staterooms a better review than Deck 5 but said that 6-8 were good. Deck 5 it gave a bad review for in terms of noise, etc. IMO, I'd go lower and cheaper and use the extra money to do an excursion or a visit to Palo/Remy or the spa! :goodvibes

we just got back from doing b2b cruises on the dream. First time out we had a room on deck 6, and second time on deck 2. Although I love having the ocean air available to me in my stateroom. We enjoyed deck 2 more (just having the porthole). Our room was midship and had a better view for watching the ocean and things going on at ports. The porthole was big enough to sit in (I did that a lot), and there are lights off the ship that illuminate the water at night (which we didn't see from deck 6). Another discovered disadvantage- we were right above the lifeboats- so when you look down- you see lifeboat vs straight to the water (like on the other ships). Deck 2 was quiet - we did have some noise (sounding like pumps turning on/off). But it was better than deck 6 where we hear Tron and Secretariat playing every night in the theater that we were above!!!
We did kinda fall in love with deck 2!!

This might not help but I love deck 2 on the Magic and Wonder especially in the front set of rooms where they are larger and you get a big window seat. We have deck 2 on the Dream in March so i'm hoping it will be as wonderful as the other ships. We actually upgraded from an inside to the Window for $8 less.:confused3

I don't have any complaints about any room that I have had in 7 cruises but I really like Deck 2 on the Magic and Wonder. I like to be able to walk up to the restaurants and theater. That's about all the exercise I get but I find it very convenient. Also quiet. In fact, I booked 2026:banana: again after spending 2 weeks there on the TA for my Alaska cruise. I like being in the front of the ship and it was convenient to be near the forward elevators and the stairs. Less traffic.:yay::yay:

Thank you for the input. I was wondering if there was much difference between the decks with regards to motion .
We have a cat9b. Gty so I believe we'll be on deck 2 of the dream.

I have heard different things about the motion- some saying it is better to be lower on the ship helps with motion. I don't think I felt a difference. The only rule I try to follow always is try to get a room closest to midship- that will help prevent some of the movement you get from the engines in back. Our rooms on the dream were 6552 then 2042- they were both very close to the middle.

Loved Deck 2 on the Magic. You didn't need the elevators to get to any of the main dining areas. .... easy walk up a flight or two.

Didn't feel any movement of the ship. Got back from our first cruise on Jan 8th on the Magic and loved it. Enjoyed the ship and it's elegance.

Would book Deck 2 again in a heartbeat.

Good luck

Chris

We were in 3 different cabin on our three Dream cruises. First cruise was in a Cat 4C Cabin #7132 midship. Beautiful cabin but felt we walked a lot to anywhere we wanted to go. The hallway seemed to go on forever.

Next cruise we were Deck 2 forward in Cat 9B Cabin #2004... AND I LOVED THIS LOCATION!!!! So very convenient to everything. We spent most of our time at the Adult pool area so it is just an elevator ride away.

Third cruise was in 8504 corner 9A cabin on Deck 8 forward. Loved the forward location and loved this huge cabin! Reminded me of a cozy attic room with slanted ceiling. Had one angled porthole but loved all the space in this room.

I seriously think I would book Deck 2 again in a heartbeat over a verandah room on a higher deck.

We've only been on the Wonder. Our first cruise was in a SPH on deck 5, which we LOVED. We it seemed like we were only a floor or two from everything, up or two and only took the stairs.

On our two night, we had booked a 11-C and no pixie dust here, ended up in an 11-C on deck 2 Forward. Two us, it seemed like forever to get up to decks 9/10. and we used the elevators a lot more.

When we rebooked only, we found our same SPH 5520 and snagged it.

We just got room 2530 on the magic. So, you would think this is a good room? We are on the 7 night with 4 people (2a 2 kids). Would this room be larger than the others? Thanks!
