We just came back from the 3night cruise. We were in an inside cat 10 on deck 1.
Our room over the noisest and most annoying banging. When the ship was moving -the walls creaked and glasses clanged- I felt like I was on the titanic.
The carpet on that floor was dingy and the ceiling was lower. I DO NOT take deck 1 if you can get anything else.
The pursar could have cared less and we had to miss the sailaway party and spend about 2 hours to finally get moved.
The attitude was basically tough and because out category 10 was sold out - we had two options. Pay about $300 more for the next category (which was a window also on deck 1) or a category 11.
We ended up going down a category to an 11 - got to mid-ship on deck 6 and loved it. I found no difference in the room other than the bathroom. And my husband and I are larger people- so the 1 bath worked out better. It was a bit roomier than the split feature.
I did not mind the inside room - missed the sunlight to wake us up in the morning - could have slept all day. But because it was so dark - I got a great nights sleep.
Plus when the ship was rocking forward - and really bad aft.
In our mid-ship inside deck 6 room - you did not even realize that you were moving. It was actually pretty ok.
I will never ever ever sail on this ship again on deck 1.

Thanks for the "report" on Deck 1. We're going cat 10 and hoping to get the connecting rooms on Deck 5- but I already know that if it came down to either not going at that time or staying on deck 1 or 2--- I wouldn't go. Can't really explain it- just do NOT like the idea of being so low in the ship. I'm not even a claustrophic person at all..... but even I think that would feel too "closed in/trapped" to me. (perhaps because of my real fear of deep water with big fishies LOL- and a little of that "Titanic" fear also)

Plus I have heard that the lower decks can tend to be noisier depending on where you are.

I'd go cat 11 just to save money (have to have 2 rooms for my family) but didn't see any cat 11 connecting rooms- atleast not on higher decks than 1 or 2... I didn't even look at those..... not an option for us in my opinion.

DisneeeyFreak -- Don't worry about having missed the Sail Away Party. It was so overcrowded that we left. We tried to go up to Deck 10 to watch, but it was also packed up there. They really should have TWO Sail Away parties simultaneously -- one at the Mickey Pool and one at the Goofy Pool. It would divide the crowd.

BBB -- We stayed on Deck 2 (pretty far forward -- room 2012), and it was a great location. It didn't feel "low" at all, and we heard no noise whatsoever. We could feel the ship when it moved, but we found it pleasant. The movement is supposed to be worse as you go higher. I think most people who've been there really like Deck 2. The only downside to our cabin: when you're forward it's a long walk to get to all the "good stuff."

I used to LOVE sail away parties. Dancing on the Goofy pool until you realize that you are, in fact, MOVING!

But this last time...was awful! Too many people. And too many people who had NO idea how to dance. In fact, a fairly large woman in high heels who couldn't dance at all stepped backwards onto my daughter's sandaled foot. My dd screamed, and the lady looked back and didn't say a thing....just kept dancing (poorly) I love the songs, the dances, the fun....but we may have to find a safer place to do it.

Thanks for letting me know to stay away from the sail away party. I'm a terrible dancer but thought "hmm, it's a cruise, maybe I will give it a try." Now I know that if I'm too big or don't dance well enough to stay away. There's not enough room for everyone and only people who are thin and can dance belong there.

Yes, it was rude of that woman to not apologize for stepping on your daughter's foot and there are probably more appropriate shoes to be wearing on a dancefloor crowded with families in case you DO step on someone, but I don't see what her size or lack of rhythm have to do with it.

We stayed on Deck 1. Our room was a bit noisy but honestly my air conditioner at home was louder then the noises we heard in the room. And we thought you could feel the boat move less on Deck 1. At dinner in Parrot's Cay the boat was really moving, my DH thought he was going to be a bit ill, we went back to our room for him to lay down and couldn't hardly feel any movement. It was a little creepy being down below and seeing the big heavy doors that would shut if the boat was taking on water but I just tried not to think about it.

We sailed in October and had rooms 2071 and 2073 and I absolutely LOVED the location. WE were very close to the midship elevators. We had 2071 and my parents 2073. So on one side we had their room and the other side we had the conference rooms. I felt we were very sentral to EVERYTHING! It was a very great location, infact I had rebooked those rooms for next years cruise, but when we got home we decided on a cat 6 and 11 on deck 6.

We have stayed on Decks 2 and 1 several times in Cat 9's and loved the location. We never, ever felt like we were "steerage" passengers as on the Titanic!!!

The hallways look exactly the same as any other Deck and it is most convenient to shopping, dining, show, shore excursions, guest service, characters greetings, etc.

We love decks 1 and 2. I can see how your particular cabin was a problem, but Decks 1 and 2 are no different than other decks. You get the exact same service level. They are the prime decks to stay on for ease and convenience when getting on or off the ship while in different ports. No waiting for elevators, just walk on the ship and walk down the hall!!!

We have also stayed on Cat 4's on Deck 8 and found the only convenience there was the pool and topsiders. To each his own!!

MJ

I LOVE deck 2. We stayed on deck 7 once and felt way to much of the movement.

One more note: Decks 1 and 2 are well above the water line -- you can see this when the ship is docked. There are actually several other decks below 1 that are for crew, supplies, machinery; of course, these are not open to passengers. Those decks are "the bowels of the ship".
