Wanting to find out informtion from those of you who have stayed on deck 1. It seems that the only catagory 9 room they have left on the 12/11/04 sailing is on deck 1. I remember walking around down there once and it seemed kind of creepy. Is is?? From what I can remember the walls seemed thicker and the doors closing off the hallways seemed thicker. You know the ones they close in case of flooding. Please if anyone has any experience "down below" please tell me what you thought.

On our first cruise last year we stayed on deck 1. We didn't mind it, we weren't in our room that much. DH liked it because there seemed to be less boat movement down there, he had a little problem with sea sickness on the upper decks. We had a little bit of noise on the other side of our wall, kind of a motor noise but it was alot quiter then our air conditioner is at home.

We stayed in room 1037 on our last cruise and we loved it, very quiet and no traffic what so ever. We will stay on deck 1 again if we stay in an inside room.TJHUTCH.

just got back. stayed in 1058 on the wonder. LOVED it! Rebooked for a deck 1. not much traffic as there are not many guests on that level. worked out well for us with 2+ year old who needed naps during the day. noise from below was less than I have encountered on deck 2.

I know what you mean that deck 1 is kind of creepy. We ventured down there on our last cruise so I see what you mean. The 2 portholes with the covers also look dark and spooky.

But it seems it may just be an impression you get with it as I have never stayed there but the above posters have and seemed to have liked it.

So if that is the only cabins available and you want to sail on that date than you will have to go try it for yourself.

Thanks for the info. If on monday the room is still available then perhaps we will give it a try. Either that or I could sell some plasma to get the extra money for a higher cabin!!! ha ha ha

Hmmm.... I've got a cruise coming up in mid-December. What's the going rate?? :D

(Seriously?)

Not creepy!

I was kind of dreading staying on deck one--it was fine! I'd stay there again no problem!

Ewww, don't do it. I'd rather stay in cat.11 on a higher deck. It's a year and a day to the Mickey Pool. Not close to anything (except the exit and the fish)

Don't DIS Deck 1. We loved it down there. Not creepy at all. We walked to every floor except Decks 9 or 10. The stairs are not difficult by any means.

Besides, who wants all that hall traffic. No one stole our door signs, no kids ran up and down our halls. Our kids (and DH) were able to nap during the day with no problem. Motion was hardly discernable. The only noise we heard which was a problem was when we were docked at St. Maarten, there was some banging on the side of the ship. I'm sure that was heard on every deck.

Let me tell you, re-boarding the ship after being in port, with two kids and all our gear, we were VERY relieved to be able to walk right to our room, instead of having to wait for the elevator.

About the portholes, my kids loved each having their own to look through. We put the table up to the highest level and let them stand on it to look out.

We always knew which way we needed to go to get back to out room. Down!

I would not hesitate to stay on Deck 1 again.

I totally agree that Deck 1 is NOT CREEPY!!! It is great......the decor in the hallways is exactly the same as all other decks with the exception of the water tight doors that are open all the time anyway so I can't see how that affect the appearance of the hallway.

We would definately stay on Deck 1 again.

Deck 1 is not creepy at all. We stayed in 1044 on the 09/09/04 cruise. Contrary to what people say, it won't take you forever to get to wherever you want to go. Take the stairs or the elevator - either way is good. I don't understand why people say that. It's quiet and actually very comfortable. We would do it again. Enjoy your cruise.

I'm a deck 2 fan and would add that a benefit of the lower decks is the elevator is typically empty when it picks you up. I stayed on deck 6 once and sometimes it would take several elevators coming by before you'd find room on one cause folks from upper (going down) or lower decks (going up) had filled them up by them time it got to you. In fact, folks wanting to go down would push the up button hoping to find an empty elevator on the way up just so they could ride it back down - and vice versa.

Nothing on the ship is more than a few minutes of walking, so "convenience" really means being a few hundred feet closer to some location than someone else. It'd be a further walk from certain wings of the Yacht & Beach Club to the pool that it would be between any 2 points on the ship.

I bet you'll love your cabin and enjoy your cruise.

Not only that, there are giant leeches that live down there. They only come out at night. :scared:

Just my two cents worth but we were in 1070 during the Sept. 18 "Jeanne" cruise and didn't mind the room at all. You will be very close to the waves as someone stated but if that tends to bother you just close the portholes and you'll be fine. I thought I would dislike the two smaller windows as opposed to the one larger but as it turned out they were great. Closing them on the Thursday that was so very rough was quite the blessing. DD rested it total darkness and was able to overcome her bit of seasickness in the quiet peaceful room.

I should just say I echo all the positives that have been stated. It is quieter (much less traffic - although a bit more engine noise but not unbearable at all), you'll see more crew members, you can darken your room to total darkness if desired, and less feeling the boat moving (unless your staring at the waves which I do not advice if you get any kind of dizziness at all), less distance to your room after a long day on land, etc.

Although we want a verandah next time (50% off!) just to try it, I wouldn't hesitate to stay on deck 1 again. Hope this helps! :D

The replies on this board crack me up:teeth: :teeth: We've decided to wait until Friday to change our reservation just to see if another cat 11 opens up that accomodates 4. That is what started this whole thing in the first place. We booked 3 and need to change to 4. But of course they gave us a room that only held 3. Now we have the problem!! Well I guess if it was meant to be, it will be.
