DH wants to add-on to our existing AK points. We have cash and really want more, however, I think that for now, we have enough and should wait. Should we add-on 125 at AK now through Disney to receive the current promotional incentives, should we add on 150 at VWL now through resale (2042 contract end date), or should we wait until next year, save up more cash and hope for better AK promotion through disney or save up more cash and buy 210 points at VWL through resale next year? We are really only interested in these 2 resorts. Add-on-itis is hard to contain.

$89 a point for AKV thru DVC with no closing costs is a pretty good deal if you ask me (and I just paid $91 a point for 100 points. Was tempted to go for the 125 myself, but ultimately decided that 100 suited me perfectly.)

Sleep on it a bit. Then see what happens. Figure out how much you are going to have to pay in annual member fees (plus add 5% to this year's fees to guess for next year). That seems to be a cure for "add-on-itis".

Another possibility is to just rent additional occassional points from other members for where you want to go, as it is such a deal for renter's while people are renting often at 10 points or less on here. The renting points average has really not gone up that much over the years, when compared to the purchase price of Disney sales or Timeshare resales values.

I've had addon-itis before and the only real cure is to add on now. If you decide to wait, this will consume you and you will lose sleep. You will spend all your idle time thinking about it. Do it now and it will pass.

I voted for AKV. I have stayed and VWL and love it, but the current incentives and no closing costs (and no ROFR) would sway my decision. Plus, you also get 15 more years and the 11 month booking window for the concierge level.

I would do the 125 AKV add on now. The price and incentives are just too good right now. I know I wouldn't want to wait.

I would buy 125 AKV points through resale now but that wasn't an option so chose 125 AKV points through Disney now.

Although I cannot believe I voted to wait until next year, I did!

I think that AKV will continue to be available well into 2011, and that the incentives will continue to get better.

Although the price right now is excellent, and if you really want AKV and absolutely can't wait, the price is very tempting, I think AKV sales will pale in compare to BLT & (eventually) Hawaii and Disney will offer great incentives for AKV purchases.

Having said that, I totally agree with the PP who said that if you really have addonitis bad, and don't buy now, you will be thinking of nothing else and making yourself miserable until you do. Then you will CONSTANTLY be thinking either.."dang it, why didn't I buy" or..."dang it, I should have waited", it will never end.:lmao:

If the money is truly burning a hole in your pocket and you have cash to get rid of and want to spend it on wdw what I would do is this...

I would buy half the points you want and use them every other year for additional trips beyond your current habits (unless you are extending your family in the near future then this may not work) assuming you already have enough points for your current needs and vacation habits that is.

Then take the other half of the money you would otherwise be spending on points (1/2 of what you planned) and purchase as many AP's as you can at todays prices to avoid price increases (last week would have been even better to have done this before the increase) over the next X amount of years to ensure WDW trips as you would then have the 2 highest ticket items covered in advance (accomodatiosn and park passes).

I would also purchase all these (points and AP's) on a credit card that has unrestricted air miles rewards and reap those rewards and then pay it off in full within the month with the cash is burning the hole in your pocket and now you have covered the 3 highest expenses for many future trips and will be able to go for just the cost of food, misc entertainment and spending money.

What time of year do you want to book VWL? Unless it is during the holiday period (mid-November thru the end of the year) or other high-demand time, then the 7 month reservation window will probably work for you there most of the time. If you want to spend some holiday season at VWL, then you should probably buy there.

If you could keep all your points at AKV you'd have the advantage of the same UY and a longer term of contract. The only way I'd buy VWL (which I do own) would be if you thought you'd want those tough times of the year there.

Good luck! :)
