Decisions: WDW (been before) or DL (never been)

I see Disneyland as a much-beloved, favorite book, and WDW as the big-budget, splashy movie adaptation of that book. Both are wonderful, in their own ways.

I dragged my children to DL last year, because I just had to go there for the 5oth anniversary. DL is the park of my childhood. They are WDW vets, and at first were very disappointed that there were "just 2 parks", and no fancy pools or beaches or cool resorts, etc.

But once we got there, they really did love it - or maybe they just like seeing their mom skipping around like a kid, I don't know! But this summer, given the choice between WDW and DL, (we live in Texas, so we are equidistant to each) they picked California in a heartbeat.

I'm sorry to hear about the discontined AAA fastpasses. If you stay on site you will at least be able to take advantage of Early Entry, so you could get Fantasyland out of the way before the crowds. I am so excited for you! You will not be disappointed. I'm sure you and your family will love DL!

We were at DL the first week of June 2003. We thought the crowds were low, and it wasn't hot at all (June Gloom). I think you've made the right decision to visit DL for the first time. Many other posters mentioned about the magic being there at DL, and you will notice it too. :) For example, I still remember my first walk through Adventureland at DL 21 years ago. Adventureland at MK is rather boring and is missing something.

Have a fun trip. :)
