Deciding (rides and resort)

I'd love to take my dad on another father/daughter trip to Disney World next fall. We have gone together a few times and always have a blast! However dad had a heart attack a few years back. So obviously that changes things a bit.

He is 77 years old, and still does most of the cooking and cleaning around the house (my mom has a bad knee and is limited in her mobility). So he can get around, though I'm sure it will be at a slower pace than in the past. But how do you decide which rides are ok? Should we follow every recommendation posted and avoid any that mention heart problems? I know no more Everest, but would 7 Dwarfs be ok? How about Dinosaur, would that for sure be a skip?

And how would you pick a resort? Dad loves POFQ but I'm thinking maybe an Epcot resort would be best, for ease of getting to 2 of the parks? Or maybe the Contemporary so we can walk to the Magic Kingdom and monrail to Epcot? There is no way I would want him standing on a bus, and my sense of direction is abysmal, so no way and I renting a car.

Anything else I should take into consideration that I may be missing?

His doctor should tell him about attractions that he should avoid. Are you getting an ECV for your father? That would change which resort I would pick, depending on the ECV situation.

No, no ECV. And I figured asking here would probably get me a better answer than his doctor. Being that people here know the rides, and his doctor does not.

I would ask his DR on if there would be any restriction on what he can ride. then I would see what your dad want to do. I go with a friend that can not do any roller coaster POTCB can be too much for her. She still had a lot of fun doing slower rides like buzz pooh PP, most rides at EPCOT but TT, and FEA.

for resorts you could do one of the EPCOT and this would make EPCOT and HS easey to get too by boat or you could do the polly or any of the monorail resorts to make it easey to get to MK or EPCOT. but what ever you chose you will have 2 parks that if you want to go to you will have to take the buss.

a few things if you do not want your dad to stand try not to go at busy times like right after the fire works. you can wait for another buss so that you know you have a set. ( I have done this a few times).

I would not total leave out using a mobility device for your dad if he needs it.

lastly I would ask your dad what he wants give him some option on things like where to stay what rides to do ( as long as his DR says it is OK) even ask him if he want to use a mobility device.

I would totally skip Dinosaur, unless he's been on it before and liked it. It's a bit rough and startling for a 77 year with heart problems. My dad is 76 and I would never take him on that.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is fun and should be fine. It's kind of like Thunder Mountain Railroad as far as intensity goes, but with better scenery.

Rides I would personally not take him on:

Tower of Terror
Rockin' Rollercoaster
Mission Space - orange side
Space Mountain - way too jerky
Expedition Everest
Dinosaur

Those are the ones that come to mind right off hand. There may be more that I would avoid if it were my dad, but these for sure.

I would personally not ride any of the coasters with the exception of 7DMT as I find it very smooth (front car). Would 'not' ride Dinosaurs, or Toy Story Mania (find that extremely jerky), Splash Mtn. (because of the extreme drop). Those are the ones that come to my mind now.

If your father loves POFQ, I would stay there. We were just there over Thanksgiving and everything is so close and compact that there isn't much walking. The bus stops were not far from any of the entrances. We have stayed at Epcot resorts and monorail resorts and I think we walked the least at POFQ. They just redid the food court too! The atmosphere is nice and relaxing too!
POFQ has their own busses, so we never stood. If you aren't running to a park at opening, it shouldn't be an issue.
