Decided to Cross Over to the Darkside

So you're saying they accidentally post these threads on the Disney section instead of the UO section?

Fwiw, unless someone tells you or you go to the main index, it is NOT easy to tell that a board called "theme parks" isn't for, you know, theme parks, but rather just wdw theme parks. So accidental posts can be made. And apart from that, sometimes people just want to express themselves among people who might possibly care.

Oh gosh, your boys will adore it!!! Just be prepared that they may start preferring Universal to Disney!

I was going to write the exact same thing. My boys are similar in age and LOVE Universal (as well as Disney). We always visit both when in Orlando.

Please note that the OP did not say "I am never going back to WDW", nor did they say that FP+ is evil, horrible, ruining Disney or anything like that. This is a person who feels that, because of how they tour and their children's current age and interests, they don't want to take a chance on the changes at WDW due to the fact they only take one big vacation per year. The OP is hopeful the situation is sorted out so they CAN go back.

"take a chance" "situation is sorted out" :rotfl2:

It's a vacation at a theme park not a military strategy.

I think the total number of people who have posted that they may not return because of FP+ or MM+ in general is around 2, which is deep down in the noise of typical internet hyperbole. Quite a few people have posted that they are going to wait until the changes and "testing" are done to return, and this has gotten some people's panties in an awful wad.

Since this whole FP+ fiasco started (yes, it has been a fiasco), I've wondered why some seem to take it so very personally when others say they are taking time off from Disney or planning on taking their vacation dollars elsewhere.

And, people need to take into consideration that those of us who have decided that we aren't returning possibly have taken other factors into consideration as well. I haven't seen one person who has said, "I'm never going back because of FP+, and only because of FP+". There is usually one, often more, factors involved, and FP+ is kind of the straw that broke the camel's back. I was looking over mini trip reports I had written in 2012 about our last WDW trip. We were pretty unhappy with our experience that trip, for multiple reasons from the resort, to the bus service, to the CM's in Castle Couture having a very loud, sexually explicit conversation at the register while we were waiting out a rain squall. We booked and paid for another WDW trip to kind of give it another chance, and then I discovered this FP+ situation after booking.

The most common complaint is that costs keep going up, while overall experience is diminishing. And, some of us have children that are no longer in the target demographic. My daughter doesn't want to run around in a princess dress any longer, she wants to be flipped upside down at 60 mph. It's these factors, plus FP+, that have driven us away from WDW. We may return some day in the distant future, but after March, we're done for a very long time. We'll take Disney in little 3 day spurts in California, rather a full week in Orlando, and we'll go see the rest of the world in the mean time.

Disney isn't "broken". It will live on, and it will most likely continue to make boat loads of cash. Disney still works. WDW just no longer works for us.

I just think that it's silly how they have to make these big grandiose announcements similar to a dramatic YAGE.

Chances are, you will find that there is no fiasco at WDW. Most people criticizing and claiming they are DONE have not actually used the system.

I have been to Universal and thought it was okay. It's an upscale Six Flags.

You haven't been reading, there are dozens and dozens of people coming back and reporting how bad they feel the system is and the issues they have with it.

But that's ok, keep on perpetuating your bubble where there are only 3 or 6 or 12 people who don't like FP+ and they haven't even been there !!!

For me there are other factors tying into me deciding whether to pack up and move to Universal technically speaking.

It's not just FP+ that is giving me pause.

The price of tickets? Can I afford another year?
How many days do I spend at WDW in the parks. Does the cost versus how many days I am at a WDW park still make it a value.

Do I still find Disney a value as far as theme parks go? It's getting harder for me to make that argument.

Personally, I didn't read it that way at all. Sounded more to me like the OP had deliberated long and hard about what to do and finally was able to make a decision to forego her favourite vacation place this time. Not really something to be mocked for.

I would never go on a Universal message board and proclaim my love for Disney... I would never go on a Cardinals forum and proclaim the superiority of the Cubs... I would never go on an Apple forum and say I'm only buying Microsoft products... It just doesn't make sense to me...:confused3

:lmao: :rotfl2::rotfl: we'll now you're just talking crazy! :)

OP have fun at US/IOA... we started going there a couple years ago and it added new life to our WDW vacations. But quite honestly for us two days more than covers it for those parks. We're looking at FP+ as a good thing because rides really only make up about 25% of our WDW vacations.

p.s. Surferdave I'm digging the new Bat!

But quite honestly 2 days more than covers it for those parks.

In the days before WWOHP that might have been true. With the current HP Hogsmead in IOA and the new HP Diagon Alley in US, the crowds at the parks have grown. In the past I've done 2 full hectic days to do both parks and on my last trip, admittedly in the post New Years rush, I didn't even effectively get through both parks. January 2015 I'm hoping for a relaxing 4 days at the park. I mentioned it previously to fill out a full week, they may want to look into Sea World, Busch Gardens, Aquatica, Discovery Cove, or Wet and Wild.

OP.. if that's how you really feel then good for you for following through. There are a great number of people who have ranted and said they will never return to WDW but I'd wager most of them will in the end return to WDW.

I don't share the sentiment, I'm happily planning my trip to WDW, but if that's the way you feel then I hope you have a great trip to Universal.

I'll continue to visit both resorts. I'm just putting off the Disney portion for an indefinite period. I haven't announced it in its own thread partially because I know that some people here see that decision as a personal insult. That to me is very odd.

A personal insult? Yes, I have seen it. It is so unfortunate. That classification is so completely unfair. I am, first and foremost a theme park fan and Disney has generally been the best at that for many years. Not so much anymore. I have been so disappointed by the number of attractions that disappeared from my favorite park, Epcot. In 2010, I went to WDW and saw so many constructions walls in Fantasyland plus closed attractions that I thought something magnificent was coming...well maybe if you are a female child between 4 and 9.

Well, at least I won't have to look at construction walls. Remember, my trip was in 2010.

I am again, doing a split trip because maybe by October, Disney will be done with Fantasyland. However, I totally expect Diagon Alley to be done so...trip not wasted.

In sports, if you go on a message board for a rival team and proclaim your love for another team, you are either trying to insight a riot, trolling, or talking smack, etc.

i'm a die hard Cardinal fan that goes to Wrigley for the Cubs/Cardinal games.

each time i cheer and root for the boys in red, some idiot pours their beer on me.

same thing happens when i go see the Brewers and Cardinals play. (milwaukee)

i can't win.

3smithboys, try the darkside and maybe you'll like it.
staying onsite there allows you unlimited usage of all the express lines.

compare it to the 3 fp system they have at the motherland.

each theme park has their own system that draws people back.

i do both parks yearly.
split stays at each resort.
this gives me the best of both worlds.

I will never understand why people take posts like the OPS as a personal threat or insult. No I have not tried the new system, but I am not interested in it and will wait till all the bugs are worked out, not once have I ever said " I am never going to Disney again" , I have only said that for now , Universal is the better value for my family .Those of us who have said as much and havent tried the FP+ system , are NO different than those who constantly BASH Universal and have never set foot on Unviersal property....Try it OP, the worst is you dont like it...we started visiting Universal 2 years ago, because DH was not happy with Disney and how expensive things have gotten( among other things). Now we stay at Universal and visit Disney if we want a day or 2 there. We do 4 full Universal park days and have yet to experience everything. We tour more leisurely and actually enjoy downtime and the resorts, and the resorts are worth every penny and come with fantastic perks .Nothing wrong with liking both.

I just think that it's silly how they have to make these big grandiose announcements similar to a dramatic YAGE.

There was nothing dramatic or grandiose about the OP. People are allowed to say they are going elsewhere for vacation, without being accused of being a drama queen or overreacting.
