I used to live in Brea and in HB. But that was 14 years ago :(

Yes. Before California Adventure ever was. I have been to DL for a day twice since then, but that is it (feel sorry for me yet???)

So.

Any AP discounts in December? I'm getting the dual park AP.

Where to stay? Is the Grand Californian worth the splurge? Should I rent points and stay DVC? There are DVC units, yes? I am sure I have seen that.

How early do I need to book a room? Now? Anything I need to know about tickets? 4 days? 5? Do tickets expire in 14 days? Best days?

See I really do need help.

By dual park you mean the Premier DLR/WDW pass right? If you get that you won't need park tickets right/

The GCH does have DVC villas. You can also stay on Harbor Dr. or The Disneyland Hotel or The Paradise Pier Hotel.

When in December are you planning to go? When school is in session or on break. This will effect the ability of rooms and deals.

If you do buy park ticket they do expire after you activate them just like at WDW. 4 days is really good amount for a visit.

Staying onsite at DLR is not as worth it as at WDW. There are very few perks to staying onsite, especially because some of the cheaper offsite places are actually closer (distance wise) to the parks than DLH or PPH. But if you do have DVC, I think the GCH rooms are really really nice.

We are planning a trip in early Dec and cannot get dates for the VGC to rent points for. We were looking for a full week so if you just wanted a couple of days you might have more luck. However, people who own DVC at GCV were able to make bookings 11 months in advance and other DVC holders were able to book 7 months in advance. December is only 5 months off.
