If I ever get off the fence and buy, I was thinking of asking for a Dec UY and asking for 2008 points which I know some people have been successful with and even able to bank. My question is are Member Fees/dues payable on the 2008 points?

Thanks, Donna.

Hi - we joined in July and got Dec 2008 points on our AKV purchase (which we were able to bank). The pro-rata dues were debited from my credit card on 1st September.

Hope that helps!!:thumbsup2

2008 points should be "free". Dues are payable in the calendar year, not UY. You would pay pro-rated dues on the 2009 points. Also, you didn't mention what resort you were looking at so just a reminder that BLT did not have any 2008 points and it is possible that AKV and SSR may not have any available.

Good luck!

Hi, I am looking at AKV with a Dec UY. I was getting confused with UY and member fees. So if available I could possibly get 2008 points, 2009 points and just pay member/maintenance fees for Sept-Dec 09?

Thanks again for replies, Donna

Yes, that is what would happen if they have the 2008 points still available for you.

If there are 2008 UY points for the Home Resort you want to purchase your points at then Disney will give you 2008 UY points for December UY. You are already past the banking deadline for December 2008 UY ( July 31 2009 ) but they have been known to allow the banking to be done if you state you want to have 2008 UY pts banked into 2009 UY at the get-go. MFs will be prorated.

Good luck :goodvibes

I spoke to my guide yesterday and changed UY to one that better fits our travel plans before signing and sending final paperwork. She said the 2008 points were only available on AKV (we bought BLT) and that she thought the 2008 were already all gone...if you are thinking of doing it I would contact your guide ASAP to confirm this...

I have a December use year. When I added on at BLT I could only get 2009 points not 2008.

Just a FYI

right I am totally confused now!!! - I bought 100 pts at AKV and 100 pts at BLT in July. (I got 2008 pts for AKV & wil get pts for both in Dec 2009) - I have just paid $247 in dues on 9/1/09 and it says for AKV2 on the statement??

And I thought my Guide said I would pay pro- rata for 2008 AKV points in Sep and then pay full 2009 dues on both resorts in January. Which is certainly how it looks.

Is that not right then???

In January you will pay 2010 MF..you pay ahead of the year, not afterwards...that way, if you are not paid up, you do not get to use your points. So, the money you paid so far in MF is for the date that your contract became final to the end of this year. For ezample, let's say you were officla on Decmber 1st...you would only pay 1/12 of the MF for the 2009 year, since you were only an owner for 1/12 of that year..that's what they mean by Pro Rata.

DVC dues are not tied in any way to your Use Year since they are entirely based on the calendar year. For any purchase made in 2009, you will pay prorated dues basedon when you purchased or what Use Year you are in and then will be responsible for the entire 2010 dues in January, 2010 (you can spread them out over the whole year by using auto-debit program with 12 equal payments with no service charge added).

BLT does not have any 2008 points. It started with February 2009. GCV started with June 2009. I have an April use year, that is one of the things that discouraged me from buying some GCV points (I would not get points until 2010).

As other's stated what you paid was correct but there's just confusion over what it was for. Your 2008 points were "free". The $247 is for prorated 2009 AKV points b/c that's already open. You paid for prorated dues from the date of your purcahse to the end of the calendar year - totally unrelated to your UY.

It doesn't sound like you have received the statement for BLT yet which is different from the AKV points since the resort wasn't open when you bought. In the situation of a new resort your dues are the later of opening date or the start of your UY so with a Dec UY you will only have to pay 1/12 of the annual dues. I'd expect you'll receive that bill around the first part of Dec. and it probably won't be due until Jan. sometime. I haven't received a statement yet for our Oct points either but I'll owe for 3 months of dues.

Around the same time as you get the bill for the 2009 BLT dues you'll receive the bill for 2010 dues.

Isn't this all fun and clear as mud?!?!? :goodvibes
