I have a dining idea for December that I wanted to float to my fellow DISers and see what you think.

My family wants to go to AK on Christmas Eve and then have dinner at Boma that evening. The problem is that we are not staying at AKL. We are staying at Port Orleans French Quarter. I have read the Jiko vs. Boma threads and, because of the diverse make-up of our group (me, my wife, my wife's parents & my kids), I have pretty much settled on Boma (can you hear the slight waffle in my voice :confused3 ). Two questions:

1) We won't have a car and I am pretty sure Dsiney busses don't run from hotel to hotel. I was thinking of this for transportation - Disney bus from AK to AKL -> bus from AKL to Epcot -> bus from Epcot to POFQ. Is this doable or too much effort and trouble for the Boma payoff?

2) What do you think about Boma vs. Jiko for my crowd? The buffet appeals to me because of the likelihood of pleasing the most people. What do you think?

Never been to Boma, but Jiko was amazing...really a top notch restaurant. The "African" style food may sound risky, but everything we ate there was wonderful. And the atmosphere was really cool, too. For a special Xmas Eve dinner, that would be my choice over a buffet.

As for transportation, we were in the same situation...we had dinner at Jiko after a day at AK. When we went to catch the bus back to Wilderness Lodge, we just hopped on the first one that came that would get us somewhere where we could catch another bus to the resort. We were the only ones on the bus (it was pretty late) and when the driver asked where we were going and we told him WL, he was able to get permission to take up straight there instead. With a tired 2 y.o., it was really great...Disney magic for us!

Anyway, I think your Epcot plan sounds great. It's open late, so buses should still be going there and its close to your resort.

Have a great trip!

Gets me thinking... I kind of wanted to do Jiko from the get-go but I am afraid of alienating picky eaters (wife is a health junkie, father-in-law can't do spicy, my two girls would live off of chicken nuggets and french fries if we'd let them [don't worry, we are good parents and don't let them]). I want everyone to have a good time and have a special Christmas Eve.

As an aside, does anyone know if you are on the DDP does Jiko require one or two table service credits?

Jiko is 2 credits. Another option is a cab. My friends and I ate at WCC one night and planned on goint to DTD and catching the bus back to ASMu. I took a twenty along 'in case' we wanted a cab. We finished at 10:30, and everyoine wanted the cab. Came to 16.50 and we are 4 big guys(see my atrippie in my signature) We got an easy ride and the cabbie got a nice tip.

I just answered my own queston, with a little more digging on this. Jiko takes 2 TS credits. Which brings up a new question for which I cannot find answer. Lets say I end up with 1 table service credit on my KTTW card but attend a meal that takes 2 TS credits. Will I be charged the entire meal or get some credit for the one TS on my KTTW card?

I don't think you can do that, I beleive you would have to either use 2 table service credits per person or pay for the meal out of pocket. Unless they could charge you in a way you could use the ddp for 3 people in your party with 6 credits and pay out of pocket for the other 3. Linda :)

Previous posters have given good ideas. Also an option for question 1) - if the weather is pleasant, bus from AKL to Downtown Disney, than take the boat to POFQ. The ride is nice, but you won't know until you're there if it is too chilly for that. In any case, DTD generally operates later than parks with bus service back to the resorts.

Sorry, can't help with question 2).

Have a fabulous Christmas trip!!

Unfortunately, Boma may win out by default due to Disney Dining Plan credits running out.

Hijacking my own thread...

Does anyone know of a restaurant they think I should consider that:
1) Has not been discussed in this thread;
2) Is close to either AK or POFQ;
3) Is a must do for a special Christmas Eve dinner;
4) With the caveat that it can only use one TS credit per person.

Thanks for all of the help and support. I can't believe I'm stressing this far away from the date!

Still looking for a little help on this.

TIA. I appreciate everyone's input so far.
