December 7, 2013 - Winter Fantasy Cruise

I spent the winter of 1977-78 at Corps school and ended up in Keflavik Iceland while all the other females in my class got sent to Italy. :roll eyes:

I got injured and medically discharged before my first enlistment ended. DH Sulley spent 22 years in, first as a Corpsman then as a Journalist, retiring in 1998. Now our oldest son is coming up on his 13th anniversary of his enlistment. Sulley and I both came from military families, so we knew no other life. Now that we are retired and 'pinned' in one place, we find ourselves with itchy feet, hence the cruising! :rotfl:

My father was a carrier Navy guy. My brother was a carrier Air Force guy. My son always wanted to be a Marine and so he became such. He was only in for four years because of his knees. At least that is the story he gave us because it just so happened he met a girl here at home at the same time. I think it was more his interest in her  than the knees. He still runs 6 miles a day and works out. :confused3 What service is your son in? What's his job, and where is he stationed?

He's in the Navy stationed here in the DC area, which we love since it means our grandkids are close by! He's due for orders soon, though, a sea tour to boot so we are keeping our fingers crossed it is out of Norfolk! Sulley's father retired from the Air Force and my Dad retired from the Marine Corps. It's a different life, to be sure, but it sure makes life interesting!

Maybe we can combine our Navy time and swab decks of the Fantasy for a couple free Bahama Mamas or Konk Koolers?

Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend, whether you were celebrating Easter or Passover.

Boy this cruise is just too far away....:sad2:

It does seem so far away but it will be here before we know it!

I'm trying to work on our upcoming cruises which are coming way to fast! I am way behind! :scared1:

Hi. We're looking at coming over for this cruise, too. If it's not this one it'll be the other itinerary for the week after this one. I prefer this one but it depends on school terms. We did our first Disney cruise last December to the MR and loved it.

Hello Marlea98 and family from down under, :wave2:

If you liked your MR cruise, Wonder, then you will like the Fantasy. Lynn and I just completed our second Dream cruise. That ship was very nice. In many ways it was nicer than the Magic and Wonder that we have been on. Only the pools on Dream were the drawback. Other than that it was two great times on the Dream. Looking forward to the Fantasy and the new things it has over the Dream. :yay:

Hello, Chris/Lynn

I booked this cruise this afternoon - to heck with school terms. A few days off in the last week of school isn't going to hurt them.

I'm looking forward to telling the kids when they get home from school this afternoon that I've booked. My son didn't want to get off our last cruise!

Hello Again Marlea98,

Just read your blog pertaining to your MR cruise on the Wonder. It was nice to read about the MR cruise, and it was nice to see the Wonder decorated for Christmas. Brings back memories of our Wonder cruises. Heck, it brought back memories of all DCL cruises. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Thank you for reading it. I've been so behind in updating it that I've got no excuse. I often go through our photos - just to reminisce. popcorn::
