December 2011 Check-In

Hi everyone! Last year we opted to do Halloween instead of Christmas at DL and we're feeling serious withdrawal symptoms!! DH and I will be there Sunday, 12/4 through Friday, 12/9. We have our reservation at the HOJO for a 5-night stay and are watching airline fares for a good deal. :)

Last year when we were there the Candlelight Processional was on...this was the first weekend in December. Is this the usual weekend for this to occur, or does the weekend vary?
TIA!

Mabel67 - Yes, this is the usual weekend. That's not to say that it couldn't change but, so far, the CP is always held on the first weekend.

See this post (it's part of the Disneyland at Christmas Time Superthread): "Holiday Thread Links & Information" (Page 1, Post #3). In it, there are a couple of links to threads pertaining to the CP, and in the Q&A section the dates of CP are addressed.

We were there in 2007 for the week before the CP weekend until the Mon after. There was a distinct rise in numbers for the weekend however on the day you only really noticed on Main Street getting into and out of the park. The lines were not significantly different.

We didn't watch, just walked by and it did look spectacular and sound wonderful.

Well our May trip was canceled :sad2: so we are now aiming for Christmas in Disneyland! :cool1: We're thinking Dec 7 to 11 at the Disneyland hotel. Question for anyone that might know, will all the rooms at the DLH be the preferred rooms by then? We're booking through Costco and it gives the option for just a standard room and then a preferred room.

I'm sorry about having to cancel your May trip  Although I hope you're able to make a December trip a reality. Disneyland is something else during the Holidays! As for the rooms at the DLH I'm not entirely sure. At the very least, if not completely finished, I can't see there being that much left by then.

So, all you Holiday DISers, since we're planning on going Dec 15-20, how bad is it going to be crowd-wise? I expect pretty busy, since we're so near the holiday, but will it still be manageable, or absolutely insane?

And what would you say is the absolute, must have treat to munch while we're there?

November 29 - December 6th VGC.

First time for the Candlelight Processional, any tips for getting preferred seating, D23 dinner etc... would be greatly appreciated.

Our October trip was postponed... so we'll be in Disneyland for Christmas!! :jumping1:

Current plan is Dec. 24-26, staying in the HoJo kids suite. I've been driving the adults in the house crazy talking about it over the past few days, but I just want to start planning! I know you guys understand!

I'm sorry to hear bout your October trip, but Disneyland during the Christmas season is very much worth it! I know how I drive everyone crazy when I want to start planning a trip. And there's no such thing as it being too early! ;)

Ooh, the Candlelight Processional is something I would love to do. I'm no expert on it though. Try making a thread to ask about it and check out the Disneyland at Christmas Superthread. It's got a lot of knowledgeable individuals and information there already!

The holidays will be busy and I'm guessing the second week of December would be busier than the first. I was there the 6th through the 9th or 10th last year and it was a very manageable visit in my personal opinion. And very much worth it! As for treats, I loved the gingerbread men and the peppermint fudge was to die for if you're looking for holiday-specific treats. Otherwise I never take a trip without a couple of churros and a mint julep!

Jessica - Thank you so much for the referral to the Christmas Superthread. I appreciate it. Not only do we have a good roster of folks (including you!:cool1:) willing to answer all kinds of holiday-related questions and share photos in that thread, but in this specific Holiday Info post from that thread, there is information or links to other threads/info about the Candlelight Processional, seasonal treats and goodies, the holiday tour, crowds, Park Hours & Entertainment from last year (November and December), weather, hand made candy canes, as well as links to holiday blogs and trip reports, general information about the season and check-in threads (such as this one:cool1:) - and other good stuff!

I haven't tried that peppermint fudge yet, but the gingerbread cookies with mouse ears are a must...and I can't pass up a peppermint ice cream cone in a chocolate and candy cane-encrusted cone from Gibson Girl!!

:goodvibes Anytime Sherry, anytime! It's just one of those subjects I'm not 100% knowledgeable on. And the peppermint fudge is delicious! We got a square of it as a treat on the Holiday Your (along with a square of regular yummy yummy in your tummy fudge).

December 14-21 @ Dolphin's Cove Resort
15 family & friends...Only two of us (my wife & I) have been to Disneyland before ! My grandson went to Walt Disney World when he was only 4mos. old and he is going to be 2 1/2 yrs old on this trip. I cannot wait to see him actually meet Mickey Mouse once again ! ::MickeyMo

I want some of that sourdough bread shaped like a Christmas tree! :bitelip:

We actually brought some home during a different December trip and saved it in the freezer to eat with our traditional Christmas Eve spaghetti dinner a couple of weeks later. This year we'll be in the park for Christmas, but I still love that bread!

I know someone posted a picture before of one of the trees that they ordered and had in their room... I know that HoJo can have similar things delivered that you can set up in your room (that you have to pick up from the front desk when you check in), but is there any way to browse those offerings online?
