I was checking rates out on the Disney website and was shocked to see the total for room only at the Contemporary for 10 nights was $7000. Then I notice I had a one bedroom suite. There was no option to click on a standard room. Does that mean there are none available?

I was thinking that the second week of December would be a good time to go because crowds would be light, and now I'm worried it's a bad time to go.

Correct, that means it is not available for the dates you chose. Try a different range of dates if they work for you.

Also try calling CRO instead of using the web site. CRO may have rooms that are not on the site.

If the resort is full ONE of the nights you chose, it will come back with no rooms avalable.

I think it's just a couple of days that are currently being held. Most of December is wide open for the contemporary, but right now December 11, 2006 has limited availability in the garden wings, and the 12th, 13th, and 14th all are either sold out or blocked for everything but suites. Other than that, though, December is open. (I'm tracking this myself, because we're hoping to stay there that week.)

I seriously doubt that this is an indication of how busy WDW will be during this week. The other deluxes all appear to be wide open on these days. The fact that rooms appear plentiful at the contemporary for the week before and the days right around the 11th through the 14th lead me to guess (just a guess) that it's a convention for which rooms are being held. Once they get a complete head count, I bet some stuff will open up.

I read in another thread that it for a Democratic Convention being held during that time.

Aha -- seems highly likely, since the 2005 convention (according to a little googling) is December 9-11 at the contemporary. FYI, it's the Florida dems' convention not a national convention or anything.
