December 15, 2012 A Yo-HO-HO-HO Holiday Fantasy!

Thanks for the welcome AmandaRG.

So glad I am not the only one bringing up clothes! I love dressing up, but need it to be practical. And frankly it has been enough years that my Florida wear is several sizes too small and several decades out of date, lol.

As a homeschooler in the Pacific Northwest I find an actual dress is not all that useful out here. Skirts are practical. Dressing up means dress pants with my boots. I may bring them as I found it hard to walk when my feet were not tied into my shoes with the ship movement/waves. Or heels with the buckle strap.

I had no luck finding a nice dress for the Alaska cruise and ended up borrowing one from a friend. (Hmm, loved that dress) Also the heat difference going from our winter to South Florida and dressing up without being too hot.

Timing of formal night also matters-
Early in the cruise, Dress cooler and you get to see how pale we really are.

Later in the cruise-The girls in our family will need a dress that matches well with the red sunburn we will probably have and not clash with dd's red hair. (insert sunburned emoticon here)

The trick is really not having a dress that would allow the sunburn to be scratched by someone walking by. Yes we use maximum sunscreen and re-apply, but it just seems inevitable so we might as well plan for it.

Such a fashion dilema. Do they make evening wear out of soft soothing cotton soaked in aloe vera?

Then again Hunter green and sunburn would be Christmas colors :santa:
:rotfl:

Seriously though, we're going to try and dress up in something washable that packs small. Hubby will probably rent the tux to avoid packing his suit.
Mickey Christmas tie will be packed.

Speaking of FE, when do most cruises start organizing this? I have already started getting my ideas and started them:banana:
Some cruisers organize them very early in the planning stages others wait until a couple months before the cruise. It all depends on how many people are participating in the meets thread. Go ahead and put the shout out for FE's and you can also be the organizer if you are volunteering yourself. :rolleyes1 :upsidedow

That is so funny NWmom, trying to match your red sunburn and a green outfit for your Christmas colored clothes!!!:lmao::lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: Sounds like my DW as well. She is the smart one in our family, she stays covered up down here in the Florida sunshine. Me on the other hand, I go out to mow the yard and trim the hedges in my swimming trunks with no shirt on. (And, I get to do this year round down here - lucky me!!!!):thumbsup2 So I stay tanned all year long!!! But I think I am going to try to find a Disney Christmas tie between now and the cruise. Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year. And Disney is my favorite place to be, WDW or DCL or any other Disney place in the world.:earboy2:

:welcome: NWmom! :thanks: for signing up on our cruiser list on our cruise site!

It looks like about half of those on the list so far plan to participate in the FE, and I expect the number will grow many times over in the coming year. Although I do the website I do not participate in the FE, so we definitely need a volunteer to organize that. :earsgirl:

So what is involved in organizing FE's? I have organized a lot of things for large groups but I am not quite sure what this is...I have never participated in FE's...I might would do it if I knew what is involved.:confused3:confused3

I haven't organized one and only participated in 1. You would need to gather all participants with cabin numbers and decide if you need to keep it as 1 group or split it up into smaller groups depending on the number of cabins participating or what the group wants to do. If there are last minute cabin changes - say for port upgrades or an emergency cabin change on the ship - you will need to notify everyone of the change.
You would also select the cutoff date for signing up - typically 1 month before sailing, although I have seen it further out than that.

I think that's about it, but I'm sure others will chime in if I left something out.

davidls,

I grew up in Miami. Never tanned in 18 years, ony burned. Had to move out of state to be able to go outside on a regular basis.

Seattle is better on my skin. Burned in Alaska, lol. Maybe we'll decorate our SPF 50 hats??!!

As strange as it sounds, we are going to Florida for the holidays because barbecue weather is what feels like Christmas to me.

My DW nevers gets tanned here in Florida either.:cool2: She stays out of the sun as much as she can. She is very light skinned and burns very easily. I, on the of there hand, get red but goes to a tan almost instantly. Yes NWmom, I know what you mean about bargecue weather, it feels more like Christmas to us as well when it is warm outside. We love it here in Florida. I am semi-retired, and DW plans to retire here in a couple of years. So we are here to stay!!! Glad you can make it "home" for the holidays. Like Disney says when greeting their guests at their resorts "Welcome Home.":thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Are y'all forgetting last year's weather over Christmas :cold: :cold: ?!? :confused3 Did I mention that it was really cold too? Plus I seem to recall the year before it being :cold: :cold: over New Year's too.
I don't know how global warming fits in here with it getting colder down there over the Chiristmas/New Year's holiday. :confused3

The weather in FL around the holidays recently has been COLD. Last year we were at DW with winter jackets, hats, gloves ect. I'm sure Castaway Cay . if this trend keeps up will also be on the cool side.

I keep telling my DW - cold is just a state of mind! Yes it was a little chilly down here in Florida - but not all that bad. And when we cruise we will be going farther south - so I'm athinkn' it should be pretty nice outside.

Just checking in and saying hi to all. I am looking forward to meeting all of you. NWMom is my wonderful DW.

Kevin

It's so hard to know what the weather will be like two Decembers from now. Right now in late September in Central Florida it's still 92 degrees out at almost 5 pm.

As for what I'm wearing, I'd LIKE to plan to be dressy for Formal and Semi-formal nights as it's not often that I dress up. Plus, it'll be like my holiday celebration. I remember when I worked for corporate America, there would always be holiday parties and we'd dress all spiffy. I miss that.

Going to Epcot at 8:45am when it's 29 degrees outside is not a 'little chilly'. I went south for the holidays to get away from the cold and it was warmer in DE than in FL 12/27/10. :confused3 :scared1: :sad1:

But, jilljill that is the exception not the norm. Yes last year it was cold. (Me thinks someone up north went to bed with a fan on, blowing all of that cold down here!):lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: Seriously, that was just plain ol' cold, and for us Floridians we thought we were going to die!!! Sorry it put a damper on your vacation down here.

Here all those years ago when we were there at Christmas time I thought it was part of the Disney Magic along with the snow at Disney MGM.:rotfl:

Kevin.

I will be the first to admit, it does get cold down here from time to time in Florida. And you just never know until it happens when that will be. (But, I hear from a pretty good source that Disney is very close to being able to control the weather!!!):lmao::lmao::lmao:

If anyone could control the weather - It'd be Disney!

Of course that's what people think. I remember when I worked for Universal a woman was upset because it was raining. She wanted to know why we didn't have a dome over the park "like Disney does". :lmao:

Funny, I never saw it when I worked for Disney.... :rolleyes1

The thing with Florida - it can be in the 80's one week in winter, and then go down to the 30's or 40's the next week. Or even in a matter of days.

However, you should know. I have decided that we will have perfect weather on this cruise. :wizard:

Besides, it won't be the end of the world...or will it?

I am glad to hear we will have perfect weather for our cruise next December. Like all of you, we are soooooooo looking forward to this cruise. Even though we just got off the Dream just 2 weeks ago - I think DW and I could live year round on one of the Disney ships. Don't matter which one.:thumbsup2
