December 12 - 19, 2009 Western Magic

Hi,

Is Disneyfan following this thread? I'm working on my fish extender dropoffs, and was wondering the appx age of Nick in 6309? He's shown as an adult. I am sorting things sorta by age appropriateness, and was just curious.

Nearly finished with FE and gifts, spending lots more time on that than on excursion planning. Hmmmmmmm......

Can't wait to see Key West again.... we will definitely just wander. I'm hoping to be at Mallory dock at 5:30 for sunset. Late dinner seating might actually help. Margaritaville would be a good stop. Did you know you can't buy a "cold draft beer" there? Or at least you couldn't last time I was in... it's all bottled.

My kids have never snorkeled, so I can't say if snorkeling will work for us or not. I'm hoping! They're pretty good swimmers, and they like the water. Trying to decide whether or not to pack our own snorkeling gear. We all have masks and snorkels, but no fins. Would take up a lot of space.

Just rambling on.... so excited; four weeks from this moment, we'll be arriving on board! :yay:

I agree with the fins. Our kids are all wearing adult sizes. The fins are huge. I guess I'll leave it up to them and how much room is in their suitcases.

We're parasailing. Also, the only other thing I HAVE to do in Key West is get Key Lime Pie on a stick. It sounds too fun!

We always bring our snorkelling stuff... it takes another whole suticase.. so we have to budget $50 or whatever just to bring it, but I can't imagine not having it... wouldn't want to use anyone elses stuff...

Even at $50 to bring your snorkel equipment, that's cheaper than $30 per person to rent it! OK, it was $27 the last time I rented.....

Just checked; they are still selling every category except 7 on our sailing, including 12s! Cat 9 is showing as gty, everything else is available for room selection.

We bring our own too.

Does anyone know what time we put in and leave Key West?
We want to para sail there too.

Hi,

:

take them to the local pool to practice (with a life jacket - that is a big change for kids if they are use to swimming without one - most places require kids under 12ish to wear a jacket). if they know the basics it will be a lot more fun for them.

Generally allowed off the ship about noon.

You can rent fins only if you choose...I think adults are $17 for fins if you have mask and snorkel. Snorkel vest is required for everyone and is free. You don't have to inflate it, but must wear it.

We are parasailing in Key West also - are you doing best of Key West?

No, we're doing Fury Parasail. Pamrob and my family are doing it together. Bev or Shoog, you can see if there is availability.

Definitely take your kids to the pool. They'll pick it up fast, but it takes a few times to get used to breathing through the snorkel. The other thing, one of my boys, did well in the pool, and the vastness of the ocean freaked him out a little. He was fine with the reassurance of a life jacket/vest.

Did you already make your reservations? I am considering just waiting till I get there because you only save 5 dollars a person making it on line. I was worried if weather got bad and they rerouted us we would still have to pay for it because its not a Disney excursion.

I know the one we are using doesn't charge if your ship can't make it to port for some reason

Thanks for the offer - we are going to stick with who we are using - they are one of the few that has the right equipment to take up a 5 year old. I know - we have a dare devil for a son that no roller coaster is too fast for. There is not a ride in the park that he won't go on.

No, they won't charge you if your ship doesn't dock there, or if there is weather. Last cruise we were supposed to parasail in Key West, but couldn't because of wind.

So glad to hear that there are some small fishes on this trip for Jordan to swim with. She has started asking if she can pack yet. :worship: That's my girl. Always prepared.

We are bringing our snorkel equipment. If you use it 2x, it will pay for itself. Plus you know the mask doesn't leak. (Is there anything more annoying than rentals equip. that doesn't work?)

I'm supposed to be cleaning, but.... this is so much more fun.

Had to post this photo...Castaway Cay the family snorkeling...

Our last cruise we para sailed at Castaway Cay I snapped a picture of hubby and oldest daughter only to realize later that they were right by the Disney Magic.
