December 12 - 19, 2009 Western Magic

What like 9 weeks and counting? How many days left, I am getting really happy about this today!
Heres one of our stateroom door magnets. If you like this or want some expert advice follow the link in my signature. People at the graphics thread are helpful and creative!

OK, I looked today....no cabin assignments (not expected)...we're 62 days out officially.

How about "Penny Pinchers in Paradise"? Judging by the number of Cat 12's we have booked as a collective group, and the fact that I'm sure many of us are cruising this week because it's cheaper than cruising the following week but still gets us in the holiday spirit, we're likely a somewhat frugal group.

We could even make up a special P3 logo that will make everyone wonder and ask just what P3 stands for!

I totally love it! "Penny Pinchers in Paradise" it goes with the little bird on my shoulder...."Cheap" "Cheap"....:lmao:

Did you guys see my post about Nachi Cocom in Cozumel. Anyone else going there???

I hadn't even heard of it. Do you have to book it, or can you just go on your own? Is it in Cozumel? Sorry, haven't been paying attention....:rotfl2:

Nachi Cocom Beach Club is in Cozumel. It's apparently about a 15 minute taxi ride from the port. The restrict each day's admission to 100 people max, and for the admission fee you get chair, umbrella, all you can drink beverages (alcholic and non-alcholic) from an attentive waiter, and a 3 course meal. In addition to the beach they also have a pool which we're excited about, and offer additional options like massages ($70/hr is much cheaper than on the ship), parasailing (cheaper and longer than Castaway Cay) and other excursions. Price is $49 per adult, $12 for 4-12yr old, and under 4 free. So for the 4 of us it'll be $110 plus RT taxi fare versus the $240 that DCL would charge us for the Cozumel Beach Break. You book online through Island Excursions, pay a deposit to hold your spot (deposit for us was $29 ($12/adult, $5 for our son, DD free) which they will refund if the ship doesn't make it into port that day, then you pay the balance in cash or traveller check once you get there.

We'd originally booked on the Cozumel beach excursion with DCL then I remembered many of the folks on my last western cruise talking about it so I went back through the boards and read everything I could, and it sounds great. So we're planning on going!

I wanted to throw a question out to the group to see if there is any potential interest in a hotel room we have booked at the Marriott Orlando Airport the night before the cruise (12/11/09). I booked a room through Priceline a month or two back for $38/night plus $12.25 taxes and fees ($50.25 total) and got the Marriott Orlando Airport. We actually stayed at this hotel the night before our cruise last year and it was great (though I paid much more last year!) and we certainly have no qualms about staying there again.

However, it looks like I'm going to be a night short on qualifying for preferred status for the Starwood brands for the year, and I'm considering staying at the Sheraton Suites instead just to get the points and credit for the stay. But since I've already paid for the Marriott and can't get my money back, I don't want to let it go to waste. So I figure I'd ask if there was anyone here who is remotely interested before we decide what to do. I'm also going to see if my friends who are driving in from Atlanta would be interested in it, but I think they are planning on staying near the port so they can get free parking for their car. Anyway, feel free to PM or email me if you have any interest. Or let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Can you come up with that logo? Maybe we can all put magnets on our door and make people wonder.

I saved this awhile back and its very basic. We could use it and add text to say what ever we want.

There is still a month to sign up for this. Don't miss out on this fun activity.

Is anyone else working on the meets? I agree with others that have posted that a 3 PM in the Promedade works well. Just a short meet and greet before the life boat drill. Sea days are also good times. Maybe a final evening farewell. BTW I like the wrist band idea of someone wants to get those we can pay for them at the first meet.

For the simple and cryptic P3 logo, I was thinking of something as simple as a lime green mickey head with "P3" on it in a big bold font. Anyone here somewhat creative to mock that up, or should I go to the graphic board folks.

For the more elaborate full logo, sounds like we definitely need a bird in there somewhere (cheap! cheap! - I love it!), and perhaps some take on the classic piggy bank with a belt around it squeezing it tight (I know that's more of a belt tightening example, but what's the usual "penny pinching" graphic? Any pigs in Disney characters or any other classic piggy bank characters? Then of course we need the paradise one. And is there any font out there you can write in pennies? (like pennies laid out to spell the words?)

Just some quick thoughts, with the caveat that I'm an accountant and we're not know for being uber creative!

Not to be a party pooper...but I believe that Priceline rooms are non-transferable. You do have to show ID when you check in. Not sure what they'd do if the ID didn't match the name on the ressie.

I know I've booked multiple rooms and had my FIL check into one of the rooms without problems on past cruises. I think I called the hotel and let them know the name of the person in that room. Don't know if that would be different this time since I wouldn't be staying there as well. Worst case scenario, I could also meet at the hotel and check in since we would be staying around the corner at the Sheraton. Anyway, just a thought.

Cute graphics. I think I'm going to try to get my butt in gear and maybe decorate our stateroom door.

Anyone decorating their door?
