December 10, 2009 3 Night Bahamian Cruise

Minie Meese, Your FE was so cute! I'm going to fabric shop today. I think, I've read that 2yds different color fabrics will do it. Does that sound about right?

That should be more than enough. I made 3 of them and don't think I used more than 2 yards. Mine are double sided too. I made mine by making a little quilt for each. I used the same fabric on the back and on the front and put some quilted batting in the center then used wide bias tape (the yellow) to seal the whole thing together. I was glad we had the thickness. It helped them lay flat. As I mentioned, the pockets are made from felt squares. Most I have seen are fabric. I added the names by creating the design on my computer and printing them on iron-on transfers for dark fabrics.

You can find some very creative ideas if you search around on the boards. Some people went wild on our cruise while others used something simple like a small mesh laundry bag. Given our cruise will be near Christmas, some people might opt to use a Christmas stocking.

Minie Meese--thanks so much. I also have another question for you. We are doing land/sea at Poly and wondered what building you were in? I wonder if they usually put cruisers in the same area?

We loved staying at the Poly. We were in the Rapanui longhouse. I think it is the farthest one from the main building (Ceremonial Long House) but the resort itself is not that big so we didn't mind. We were on the 3rd floor facing the inner court. The other side faces the monorail. We had other cruisers in our building but not sure if all of the cruisers were in that building.
Good things about Rapanui
It was very quiet
Our room had an outdoor balcony (not all buildings have them)
It is the closest building to the Transportation and Ticket Center so getting to EPCOT is quick
It is short walk to the bus stop to Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Downtown Disney
Main Ceremonial House is not that far.
The only thing we found a bit of an annoyance was that the elevator was at the far end of the building and out room was the first one at the near end. We only used it for luggage and once when we returned from EPCOT so it was not a big deal.

Favorite things about the Poly
Watching the fireworks at MK while in the pool (or sitting in a lounge chair on the beach)
Watching the electric water parade from the beach
Access to the Magic Kingdom
The beach - our little ones loved it - they also have squirting fountains
The grounds
Breakfast with Stitch
The staff was great
The food at Captain Cook's, the quick service food area is not bad but there are not enough tables inside and it is terribly disorganized - we hated the touch screens and the way you had to get in line.

There are tons of photos and video from our February trip at http://s198.photobucket.com/albums/aa319/eanselm/2009%20Disney%20Vacation/
I have things sorted into albums that you can select along the left of the screen

Since I am not that crafty (or more truthfully, don't have the skills to be craft making an FE), the stocking is something that I can probably do!

Should I just read the threads about FE? Those are probably the only threads on this board that I haven't read since we hadn't gotten to the FE point with our cruise!

I also have no craft and/or sewing skills either, but I've heard of people getting FE's from ebay?

Loved your photos DMMarla - the back-to-back cruises must have been awesome

Search for "fish extenders" on ebay and you will find quite a few

A stocking will work great. I am sure there are some photos of ones from last Christmas on the board somewhere. I've seen inexpensive stockings at the Dollar Store. You will just need to bring something to attach it to the fish next to your door. Most stockings have a loop. You could attach a cord through the loop and tie it over the fish.

Thanks for the information, Melissa. I can't sew so I'm liking the stocking idea! :thumbsup2

Minie Meese--Your pics were so much fun to look at. I looked at tikiman's site and I am very excited about the Poly--any room will be fine with me!!I've only stayed at ALL STAR Movies before--and while that was great, I'm really excited about the monorail!! Thanks for your help!

Hi everyone! Sorry I'm "late" but we were among those bounceback folks who had tried to get the 12/3 cruise. So we're all booked for 12/10! YAY!
We are planning to drive (ugh) from MN with my SIL and spend 4 nights at the new and hopefully fabulous Bay Lake Tower! We're meeting my other SIL and her family and MIL there. I am so excited to see everything decorated for Christmas, go to MVMCP etc. Then after the cruise, me and the DDs are planning to fly home so they don't miss more school (it was 4 days but when we switched dates, now it's 5).

I would be interested in participating in an FE exchange. I'd probably want to use a stocking (I'm too lazy to sew and it would be so cute and Christmassy!)

Ok, it looks like we have alot of folks interested in a FE exchange, but no one to coordinate, so I will. If you are interested, please send me a pm with your names (first and last), ages and sex of your children, stateroom number and email address. Some like to make personalized gifts with the family's last name. That is the only reason I am asking for it. Also, I found last time I coordinated that it would have been easier to email the list to everyone. I will close out the list November 1st to give everyone time to purchase and/or finalize gifts. You can give gifts one night or all three. It will be totally up to you. If we have too many staterooms, I will divide the list and assign cabins. We had 20 on our last cruise and that was fine, but I have heard of cruises having 100! Yikes!
Pam

Question......Do you give gifts to everyone in the exchange, or just 1 cabin?

Laurie, my DD10 would love your screen name. She is a penguin freak. It will be my family's first time on the Wonder, too, although I've been once without them. My best friend and I snuck away without our kids and husband for a four day and had a great time. I had a good time comparing and contrasting the ships. I didn't know how any other ship could have a crew I loved as much as the Magic, but the Wonder's crew is just as awesome!

Hey Melissa....I am a penguin freak!!! so I can understand your DD!! I have quite a unique collection of penguins and I love to cruise (thus the screen name) especially the Disney Magic!! Going on the Wonder should be just as thrilling. Our family it excited to go! Can't wait to meet everyone. Are we doing a Disboard cruise meet?? On our previous cruises we've usually had a cruise meet in the Promenade Lounge at 3pm right before the life boat drill. Anyone up to doing a meet?? Let's put something together. Laurie

I'm up for a meet, and 3pm in the promenade lounge sounds great to me. On my back-to-back cruise February 21st-March 7th thats what time we had both meets and the same place and it was a great time, but whatever anyone else thinks is fine with me, I just love meeting people:goodvibes

To answer the FE question, yes, you give gifts to everyone. As far as a meet goes, we need to meet in order to get cabin changes for the FE exchange. We met in the Promenade lounge at 3:00 and that worked great except that the shuttle was supposed to land and everyone wanted to go up on deck and see it! :thumbsup2

does anyone plan on going to disney world before or after the cruise? I think my dad are going before for that christmas party, can't remember what it is called
