Hello everyone,

We are two going for our first WDW vacation in December and just wanted to know who else will be there and might be interested to meet for a drink the other night or hang around in the parks.

We are two guys in our thirties (31 and 34) and always interested in meeting new friends. And before this thread sounds like an inappropriate offer I'd better finish here. :goodvibes

Greetings from Europe :)

Mike and I are locals so we are normally around, especially if alcohol is involved!

Oh, and i just rememberd, Knox (CanadianGuy) is down at the beginning of your stay too!

of course I say that, but i'm falling asleep in my chair

And just who said that at 7:25 pm? :rotfl2:

Do I look like chopped liver to you? Becuase Conc thinks we are!

Sunday's at the UK Pub at Epcot is our usual hang out. Come have a Stella and meet new friends.

Somehow I don't get the "chopped liver" thing. Sorry that's the problem with us non native speakers on this board.

Anyways we don't have any bedtimes planned, yet. Except the natural ones our bodies demand.

Sorry about the American slang...

Chopped liver
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chopped liver is a spread popular in Jewish cuisine. It is often made by sautéeing liver and onions in schmaltz (i.e., rendered animal fat); adding hard-boiled eggs, salt and pepper to the sautéed liver and onions, and grinding that mixture. However other methods and materials exist and so the exact process and ingredients may vary from chef to chef.

Chopped liver is a common menu item in Kosher delicatessens in the U.S. and Canada. Chopped liver is often served with rye bread as sandwiches.

The liver used is generally calves' liver or chicken liver. Shortening or oil is often substituted for the schmaltz.

Variations
Because of the liver, chopped liver is high in protein but also high in fat and cholesterol. Thus, low fat, mock, and vegetarian versions of chopped liver exist that are frequently made of a combination or base of peas, string beans, eggplant, or mushrooms.

Chopped liver in popular culture
Because of its unusual taste and gray appearance, it is an acquired taste and not a favorite or comfort food with everyone at the dinner table. This has given rise to the popular Jewish-American expression "What am I, chopped liver?", signifying frustration or anger at being ignored on a social level.

An alternate explanation for the etymology of the "What am I, chopped liver?" expression is that chopped liver was traditionally served as a side dish rather than a main course. The phrase, therefore may have originally meant to express a feeling of being overlooked, as a "side dish."

Thought something like that but thanks for the quite compehensive explanation.

We would never treat you like that, except you're "unusual of taste and grey":headache:

Sorry for that:goodvibes

I think its not so much native speaker thing as an old jewish grandmother thing..LOL

Oooooohhhh, K&R, you are so NOT chopped liver!!!:grouphug:

p.s. -- I was surprised how Wiki danced around the schmaltz thing -- always thought schmaltz was rendered chicken fat -- not just generic "animal fat".

p.p.s. -- I have eaten my fair share of Menudo (Kudos to Brother K&R yet again for the Ricky Martin reference in another disgusto food thread) but I have never ever ever touched chopped liver and that was before I knew there were ground up hard-boiled eggs in it. Holy smokes -- sounds like a ticking gut bomb to me!!!

Is there any difference between 'lard' (which is in german 'schmalz' - pure animal fat  ) and 'schmaltz'?

Don't belive I'm asking this :lmao:

Oohhhhhh...

But lard makes the flakiest pie crusts!

Lard refers to pig fat rendered and into a cooking fat or shortening, or as a spread similar to butter. Members of the Jewish faith would never use lard.

Cooking fat obtained from cattle or sheep is known as suet or tallow.

The fat of chickens, ducks, or geese has no special English name, except in Jewish cuisine, where it is known as schmaltz.

Bacon grease is sometimes also used in a culinary capacity, especially when rubbed on clean potatos and then wrapped in foil and baked.

I am deeply impressed you seem to be a living wikipedia. However I know now what to avoid :lmao:

I LOVE WIKIPEDIA!

Google for searching

Wiki for information (knowing of course anyone can update it, so some of it has to be taken in that context)

DISboards for my Disney fix

Pogo for on line games

QueerSighted for a mix of politics and humor

IMdB for movie information

I'm an online junkie. Too bad the internet can't be brewed and consumed like coffee. Oh, Starbucks!!!!

Maybe I should have google and wikipedia opened while posting here to check all words and phrases I don't understand.

That's the problem with our english education, it's british and absolutely clean. I guess if someone wants to be absolutely rude to me I might not even understand what he's saying :rotfl:

Stick with me, mate! I'll teach you all the bad American slang.

Let's start with "Toss Your Cookies" since we are going Drinking Around the World.

Randall

P.S.- Is "Fosters" really Australian for beer?
