Dec. 7, 2008 4 nite Mousefest Cruise - who's all going?

Hi everybody,
I just discovered this thread and we too are booked on this date. We have 3 cabins going..a total of 11 people..Please forgive me for asking a silly question, I have not read the entire thread, but what is a Mousefest cruise?:confused3. This our 2nd Disney cruise and the 1st for us at Christmas. Anything special going on other than the decorations?

Thanks...:)
MouseFest is a gathering of people from a number of WDW internet communities on DCL and at WDW: www.mousefest.org

Lill, thanks for reading:goodvibes .

I think the fireworks were the final selling point, since I am not taking the girls this time (taking them March 09) I thought about doing an RCI cruise, but then I really want to see the fireworks and also Castaway Cay.

Have you cruised before? When we were on the Magic I noticed that kids your daughters ages seemed to be have a really good time, they will love it.

I am also looking forward to seeing the sunrise from deck 9, my girls are not morning people, so I will never make it up there with them

Lisa

This will be our first cruise. After everything I've read I don't think it will be our last!

We haven't told the girls about the trip yet. We are planing on surprising them the day before we leave. It is not easy, I've almost let it slip a few times.:rolleyes1 I'll have to talk to their teachers and pick up the school work they will miss as we are heading to Disney World for 7 days after the cruise. They have seen the planing video and are driving me crazy with wanting to go on a cruise. They are both Disney crazy.

I'm with your girls I am not a morning person. We are in a cat 4 so I'm thinking that I will be able to have my tea in my pj's on the veranda and I just might get to see a sunrise.

This link is for the 2007 event, is there anything for 2008 yet?

Lill - Good Luck keeping the secret, I love to hear stories about the kids reactions. Sounds like a great trip, I wish my husband would allow me to take the girls out of school to travel, it is so much nicer to go when it is not so busy.

I haven't seen anything for 2008 Mousefest yet. And I keep checking!

We are dairy and cash crop farmers and are only able to travel in the winter. So it means taking the girls out of school. We are in a very rural area and the teachers are very supportive. It was a hard decission to talk my oldest out of high school for that length of time.

Lill

I am sure your dd's will be fine missing school in December. Mine are not in high school, but it seems to me that once the report cards go out at the beginning of December, not a lot gets done before January, and it will be a great opportunity for you to get away as a family, which I would assume is hard for you to do at other times.

That's the official site for MouseFest. They have a lot of info about 2007, as well as previous years. The 2008 event is still 8 months away.

Hello everyone, I posted pages long ago and haven't ben back for a while. I did however wanted to say hello to those that have joined this thread. I am so very excited to be going on my first cruise and going on it with Mickey no less. For those that haven't read all of the posts I'll re-state a few things about me. My name is Kim and I will be celebrating my 30th birthday with my mom on our first cruise. I don't have kids so none to meet up with the other families. We have so much to learn and looking forward to meeting other Diser's. I really love looking at my tickers countdown, am I being silly and it's just me or does anybody else get the chills as you get closer to your Disney vacations?

Hi Kim

I know 8 months from today and we will be on the ship!

I noticed that you did the college program at Disney. My oldest is interested in doing it.

The2princessesmom, we surprised our boys with our cruise in May 2006 the very day we left on the Magic. It was hard to keep quiet for 14 months, but so worth it when we saw their faces after they found out. It was our ds10's birthday (turning 9 the day of embarkation) and we handed him "one last present" which was the DCL booklet wrapped up. He was in utter shock and for the first few days he kept saying "I just can't believe we are on the Magic!"

I am taking our boys (7 and 10) down for a quick long weekend getaway to WDW in 16 days and can't wait. DH has to work and can't get off, but we really need it after the last 6 weeks. My ds10 was having shortness of breath/chest pains when running in gym and after x-rays and a CT was diagnosed with lymphoma. We were sent to Johns Hopkins Pediatric Oncology for his care and luckily found out there the mass is most likely benign. He was on medication for a month and the mass has gone from a grapefruit size to a golf ball. He has another CT in a month and they are hoping it will be gone. He's been a real trooper through it all and is now back to most of his normal activities and playing baseball. Up until that day in gym he did not have one single symptom so it really floored us. An experience like this has really made us so much more grateful for our family's health, which we had taken for granted.

Jasmine8-- I have been to WDW dozens of times and cruised DCL 5 times and still can't sleep the night before a trip. I make spreadsheets of tentative plans for our trip and stock little trip items in my closet weeks in advance. I'm always flexible with changing the plans I make, but it's part of the excitement for me. Luckily I also get tons of calls from family and friends each year to help plan their trips which I love doing and helps keep the magic going.

Kim- Thanks for the information. I will pass it along to my daughter. What was the grade point average that you needed?

Hanover- I'm glad to hear your son is doing so well now. I can't even imagine what the last few months have been like for your family. What a nice way to get away from everything with a few days at WDW.

My DSIL is going with her family DS2 and DH for their first Disney trip at the end of April. I have been helping her plan and I agree it helps keep the magic going. It has also let me be on the boards and my girls not question what I'm doing.:rolleyes1

It's been since 97 that I did the college program and honestly I don't remember any GPA requirement. All she'd have to do is show up to a college campus where interviews will be taking place, sit thru a long and very boring presentation, than have an on the spot interview. I got my letter I think 2-3 months after I interviewed. I think they except most applicants. I really liked living on the housing Disney provides but didn't like the fact that they garnish your wages before you get your check for the housing. I don't know how I lived off under $200 every two weeks. I only called home for money once, had no car not even a driver's license when I went. But I had the best roommates a person could have ever wanted. We all had the same personality with little differences here and there. Our apartment was the cleanest in all of Lake Buena Vista. The place was called Vista Way. But again if your daughter has questions or you do as a concerned mom about all that invovled let me know. There's also the college board on here with current CM's and potential CM's.

My goodness what a roller coaster ride the last couple of months must have been, I am so glad that things are looking up. We have be treating lymphoma in our family for 4 years, not anyone nearly as young, but it sure makes you change your outlook on life. I have been taking a week in December for the last couple of years to escape all those things, and this year I have this cruise to help with the escape. I wish you all the best, and I am sure the cruise will be extra special.

I just joined these boards, but I just booked for this trip, based on someone's recommendation about mousefest '08.

It'll be my first cruise, and I can't wait! Got cabin 6630, and 8 months is too far away!

At least I have the ship's horn when I login to my computer to keep me company.

:welcome: Donald Quackers:welcome: This will be my first cruise as well. Can you tell us a little about yourself and what you plan on doing while on the cruise besides having fun ofcourse.

Kim-Thanks for all the information I'll pass it along to her. She is only in 9th grade but has talked about doing this since our last trip. There are only two University's in Canada that offer the program with Disney but thankfully they aren't too far from home.

Welcome  Donald Quackers:banana: :wave2:

I booked this cruise last week, and I think I have a roommate, too! I have been to the MouseFest land events several times, and I have wanted to go on a MouseFest cruise for quite some time.

I already know Ray, TLinden, and Goofy4Tink. By the time the cruise starts, I'm sure I'll know many more of you.
 :sail: Thrilled to see you'll be joining us. I love it when I know some people before I get there....I don't feel so lost that way. But, I guess I won't feel too lost tagging along behind Karen will I?

Those in charge of planning MF are just starting to think about it. Basically, the Sea part runs from 12/7 to 12/11, then the Land part takes over from 12/11 to 12/15. I've done the Land portion about three times, but this is my first MF cruise!

Thanks for the welcome!

I've just started going over the various information available, and I bought the Passporter's guide (that's how I found this site). I was kind of interested in hopping over to the Atlantis in Nassau, then relaxing in Serenity Bay on Castaway Cay. I was also interested in the watercraft eco-tour and/or the stingray adventure!

I'm also excited to see the Toy Story show that will be on the Wonder as well, in addition to whatever the Mousefesters have planned.

I'm even thinking about coming in a couple of days early to have fun at the parks before heading back (though I'm still thinking about that...might even do it after to join in more MF events!)

What are the 2 Univerisity's? I work in the hotel industry so my girls spend a fair amount of time around them and I can see one of them wanting a career the industry, I would think Disney training would be a great experience.

Welcome to the board, you will get so much great info.

What is a watercraft eco tour?

Lisa

According to Passporter's, it's a personal watercraft eco tour, where you get to ride around on a Waverunner/Jet-Ski type watercraft and follow a tour guide. I've always wanted to try riding one of those.
