Dec. 7, 2008 4 nite Mousefest Cruise - who's all going?

We just booked our Palo's Brunch and Dinner reservations online. The DCL schedule still shows the day at sea after CC day. Hopefully they will adjust our Palo reservations if they move the day at sea to the first day of the cruise as previously mentioned on this thread!:confused3

Anyone going to be booking excursions, Spa or Palo ressies tomorrow?

I just saw this thread about DCL changing 4 day Wonder days at sea to the 1st instead of the last days. Not sure when it's set to change:http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1945446

I also saw that some Dissers dug up itineraries for the Magic in the summer of 2010 which include some Baltic (Oslo, Coppenhagen, etc) ports. I guess by the time our cruise comes around, we will know for sure and can try and book one for the 10% off and OBC and hope we can save enough by then. We did the Mediterranean on the Magic in July 2007 and it's been our best cruise yet.

MKMommy, the castle suite was awesome. I'd definitely love to spend the night in it if given the opportunity! I'll have to find my photobucket link to the suite photos.

I hope everyone's doing well and for those booking ressies tomorrow, they get what they want.

Thank you for the pictures, it looks amazing that must have been something to see, all the little details, that is what sets Disney apart.

I am most excited about 2010, I would love to go to St Petersburg, you said it was your best cruise, what made it so special, and did your whole family do many excursions? My girls love to stay on the ship and relax, so not sure if a heavy port itinerary would be a good trip for them. I think the Westbound TA would be the perfect trip for them.

I would actually like it if they changed the routing so Castaway Cay is the last stop, I was thinking that doing Castaway Cay first must be a little anti climatic as I am sure Nassua will not as relaxing as Castaway Cay.

I was able to book the city garden tour in Nassau so I am ready to go.

We were able to get Palos brunch too :thumbsup2 , as well as nursery time for our little guy while were at Palos. I sure hope they don't switch the day at sea around. I also enjoy relaxing the last day and not having to rush around packing after Castaway....oh well we'll see I guess...

I booked Palo brunch and dinner, the jet skis at CC for DH and DS11 and parasailing on CC for me and DS11. Poor DS7 is too young to do either so we'll take turns playing in the sand with him and maybe rent floats/bikes.

I'm really hoping if they switch the days for our cruise that they will ask us about our reservations before switching them according to the ports. We booked Palo for dinner the 3rd night which is currently CC day, but wanted it because it will be our 2nd night in the same restaurant. I want to keep it the 3rd night and not keep it when at CC. Not sure if that makes sense.

MKmommy, we loved the Med cruise because the ports were so much more interesting than the Eastern/Western ones we've visited. The history and sights were just unbelievable. I loved having the extra time on the ship, the local food, the sea days and extra entertainment too. I lived in Sicily and England as a child (my dad was in the Navy) and it was nice to revisit them. Our boys loved every minute of it and did not get bored on tours. We did a couple of all day taxi's on our own, a few DCL sponsored tours and a couple just on our own. I went to Russia (St. Petersburg, Moscow, Leningrad, etc) in 1987 with my family, but would love to revisit them too. I was in 8th grade and didn't quite appreciate it like I should have!

Well, I better get this posted. I started it sometime this morning and got some work tasks assigned shortly after that. I work from home and generally have a pretty flexible schedule, but not today!

Hi me again! I am going to be the annoying newbie for a bit.

I see most of you have already made reservations for spa, Palo, etc. When can a first time cruiser book? Is it 90 days out or 75? Any advice on some excursions that are a must to do?

And what exactly is Mousefest? Anything special they do on the cruise?

Thank you!!!!

Yes, 75 days out is correct.....

I'm going to be travelling alone with my DD. I'm not 100% she will be willing to part with me and do some kid only activities. Which is fine. But i'm wondering if the spa really books up ahead of time. Or do you think if I wait and it looks like she will to Oceaneers, then I can make an appointment for me in the spa.

I do think the spa tends to book up for things like manicures/pedicures and some of the couple treatments. I haven't tried to book one of the above onboard, but I know some of my other dis friends on other cruises have and have been out of luck.

My DH got me an open air cabana massage at CC last December the day before we got there and I heard those are usually booked, so there's always hope. I do know they advertise a lot of specials when we are in ports too.

I think I mentioned when we were on the Wonder 2 weeks ago in Nassau, I had a great massage (20 min back, 20 min facial, 20 minues scalp/leg) and and hour in the Rainforest room for $125. It was great and I really want to do it again in December. We booked that one the night before.

Yeah I'm thinking we will stay on the boat in Nassau. I went there on my honeymoon and it was nice. But I think I owuld rather chill on the ship. So I'm hoping that she will go the the Oceaneers club that day (for part of it) and I can go to the spa. The treatment yougot sounds great. I would book in advance, but if she is too worked up to stay alone, I don't want to pay for something I can't do. I'm afraid I just won't know how she will be until we get on board.

Has anyone thought of getting this patch? Is anyone else concerned about motion sickness? What remedies do you use for motion sickness?

Also I read a while back about jelly fish on CC and the use of vinegar for stings. Will jelly fish be out in Dec?

Kim

Hiya!

Stacey and I will be there!

It'll be our first cruise too! :)

Oh, question, on formal night, how formal is formal?

I don't do the ball gown thing...

I used that patch on our first DCL cruise and haven't used it since, sticking to Bonine instead. I'm very sensitive to motion sickness--I can get sick on a merry -go- round or swingset, but the ship hardly bothers me at all. The first cruise I went on was a 4 day and I used the patch the 1st morning. My mouth was very, very dry and then later I noticed my eye sight was blurry too when I tried to read the menu at dinner. My sister was with us and using the patch and she also had a real dry mouth. We both took them off and never used anything the rest of the cruise and were perfectly fine. I know I've read other's posts that you only get blurry eyes from touching the patch and rubbing your eyes, but my DH put it on and I never rubbed my eyes. On our other cruises, I usually take Bonine the first day or two and on excursions with small boats. This past cruise a few weeks ago, we had 2 stops at Castaway Cay and Nassau and the ship was so smooth, you couldn't tell when we were going if you didn't look outside. The only time I've been seasick was on the Magic when we were in very rough seas and had a room at the very front of the ship. We get midship rooms now and I have not had a problem since. DS7 gets very motion sick on small boats (always vomits without Bonine) but has never taken anything on the Wonder/Magic and never been sick at all.

Welcome!

On our 4 day on 8/28, you saw a bit of everything. I really think it was much more casual than when we sailed a 3 day in 12/2006 and our 1st 4 day in 2/2005. I took real light weight dresses--nothing fancy by an means (I thought it would be easier than packing both tops and bottoms)--- but felt very over dressed except on semi formal night. Most of everyone wore capris and shirts each night and maybe a dress or skirt on dressy night. It's much, much more casual than on the Magic, where most people dress up each night. On the Wonder, I really only noticed (but didn't really care by any means) what people were wearing around us as they came in to sit down to eat. I did see a lot of adults in t-shirts and shorts each night too.

We let our boys (ages 7/11) wear dress shorts and Polos the first night, pirate costumes on pirate night, button down shirt & tie/dress pants on dressy night and polos/cargo pants on the last night. The 1st day we were literally rushing from the life boat drill, to the sail away party, to dinner so we let the boys wear shorts. It was so hot on decks 9/10 during the sail away party. Most of everyone around us at dinner were wearing whatever they came on the ship wearing.

I did see one family in gowns and suits on dressy night, but they were the exception. I think they must have been taking formal portraits. They were in front of us at pictures with Chip and Dale and the grandmother literally screamed at Dale for rubbing one of the girls hair and messing it up! It was actually pretty funny to see Dale's reaction and try to calm the grandmother down.

We are limited to 1 bag in December on Air Tran (unless we want to pay) and I want to pack as light as possible for our trip, which will be 10 days total. I'm probably going to bring a couple of capris and pants/tops to mix and match and a dress for dressy night. We'll have a washer/dryer in our Animal Kingdom Villa, so I'll do laundry before and after the cruise. Our boys and DH will do the polo/pants thing again.

I'm afraid of being motion sick too. I've read about many people having trouble with side effects from the patch so I think I'm going to try Bonnie. I think they have non drowsy. I can't find it in Canada so I'm going to Syracuse this weekend and thought I'd pick some up.

Lill

Yes, Bonine is non-drowsy. I find that Dramamine makes me more sleepy, even the non-drowsy kind. They do have a kid's Bonine too but it's got a yucky after taste. I couldn't find mine one time and took a kid's one and it was really bitter. I bought the kid's kind in case we went on a small boat or if one of my son's got seasick but they never had to take them. Their doctor said they could have 1/2 of an adult one too. I hear that green apples and ginger also help out. I have also tried the little herbal liquid stuff you dab behind you ear and would never recommend that. It really had a horrible smell which made me feel queasy itself!

Thanks everyone for your input. I too was worried about the side effects of the patch. I don't get motion sickness at all really but was just being precautious because I went on a whale watching cruise in Alaska this past April and got sick. The water was really choppy and the ceasar wrap we were served could have been bad. So I don't know what really made em sick that day. I love rides that jerk, spin, shake and drop. Another question, what is Bonnie?

Oh nevermind I just googled it and see that it's a tablet form for motion sickness. Guess I have to remember to go to Walgreens before I set sail.
