Dec 5, 2009 -- now traveling to Tortola

mommyoftwinfants: When are you staying in the concierge at AKV? We'll be there on the 3rd and 4th. We get in late on the 3rd and are planning on doing MK on the 4th before MVMCP (we aren't doing it that night). We stayed in it one night before our August 3 day cruise and really enjoyed the amenities. I know that there are very few rooms up there so we may run into you if you are staying there before the cruise!

What was the deal at Target? We have 2 Super Walmarts with in 5 minutes of our house but we have to drive 30 minutes to get to a Target. We were supposed to have one open last summer but they delayed the construction due to the economy. I can't wait until they open one and hope never to set foot in Walmart again. It's crazy and gets even scarier crazy the closer it gets to Christmas. I'm serious when I say I'm afraid to get run over in the parking lot by someone cruising for an empty spot! Luckily I did 99% of my boy's Christmas shopping on Veteran's Day when I was off and they were in school. I even got things wrapped and hidden in the attic!

I see there is beer/wine/margarita tastings, art of the appetizer/dessert..etc. Do you sign up for these things when you get on the ship or do you only sign up the day of that activity? Are there any special activities with it being the holiday season?

I found a scanned copy of the navigators from this same cruise that sailed in February. It doesn't state that there is any signing up for it. I assume you just show up. The class is going to be in Studio Sea. I'm planning on attending these classes so I'll probably see you there.

Thanks!

:lmao: I don't know how many times I've said that myself! However, about once a month or so, I find myself in Walmart for something I can't find at Target and every time I leave I say I will NEVER return. I actually did boycott them and was hoping to make it a year and only made 4 or 5 months. Most of the employees are rude and won't say a single word to you unless absolutely necessary even when checking out. I don't know how many times I've completed a transaction w/o being spoken to, and I don't mean the self checkout line. Target is like night and day from Walmart - bright and clean, friendly associates, and speedy checkouts!

The main reason I hate the Walmart we usually go to is because of the parking lot. Whoever was the engineer must have been on something because the entire design to get in and out is dangerous and doesn't make sense. Then there is trying to get an empty parking spot which they seem are half the size of normal spots. I always swear people will run you over to get an empty spot, especially if a storm is coming or a holiday is near. The cashiers are mostly older nice ladies but there are some in their late teens/early twenties that have lots of piercings all over their faces and those huge holes in their ears and tattoos all over. One girl even has stars tattooed all over her face. I try to avoid them just so I don't have to listen to Brennan's observations and questions. I teach him to respect them, but I just don't need him staring. I don't know if you've ever seen the Walmart Bingo email forwarded, but that covers the customers and our Walmart store pretty well! You can google it if you have never seen it. That's one Bingo I can win!

OMG I just called MS to see if I could get us into a Savannah View Room since the only thing available when we booked was a standard view, well they didn't have any Savannah view rooms left but they had a Concierge...:woohoo::woohoo: (Sunrise Safari here we come) :woohoo::woohoo:

Have you done the safari before? It's great! We like the afternoon safari at the lodge with dinner at Jiko, too. Enjoy!

I think the same guy designed ALL Walmart parking lots! :rotfl:

Congrats on getting concierge! We've never had that experience but we did get a Savannah view when AKL first opened (free upgrade at check in :cool1:). Jessica was 3 or 4 and one night after getting back to the room, she went out on the balcony and yelled back, "hey Mom, we have cantelopes!" We were rolling:rotfl::rotfl:! I loved being able to watch the giraffes.

Have fun on the safari!!

Wine tastings(Stem to Stern): Sunday 1pm, Monday 1pm, Thursday 1pm
Beer Tastings: Monday 2:30pm
Martini tastings: Sunday 4pm, Thursday 2pm
Margarita/Tequila tastings: 4pm

You need to stop at Guest Services and purchases tickets. The tickets cost $12-15. It is usually a lot of fun and informative. They usually take place down Beat Street, can't remember which bar.

Kids say the cutest things!

We stayed in a savannah view last year in a 1 BR villa and loved it! Beware of the balconies though! MIL got locked out when she shut the door and the latch fell down. She was told that happens at least once a day. Anyway, she was there all by herself but thankfully had her cell phone with her. She got the front desk number from someone and called but after 30 minutes, no came to help her so she called again. Finally, someone came so she came in to get ready for the day. Well, while she was getting dressed, her second call was responded to and someone walked in while she was half naked  The lady just looked and her and said "You locked out on balcony?" Well obviously not anymore! Anyway, made for good laugh later on!

Cool... thanks for posting. Everyday Margarita/Tequila tastings could be interesting...:scared:

We did the Wine tasting in 07. Its in Sessions I believe. Or the same place that the Caddilac Lounge is on the Wonder. Very Informative:upsidedow
Carol didn't like the dry wines sooooo :woohoo: more for JD:banana:

I will post the other door #'s after the dkids are off to school. I am still trying to keep this a secret :rotfl2:

wuv tigger

One of them snuck up on me & freaked me out this am. I was working on their surprise note.

The search feature is down and I can't stay on the dis long as the kiddos are noticing ... my time on the disboards usually means 1/2 things to them: WDW or DCL!

Can someone find the other posts with the names of the 2 families who volunteered to have message boards on their cabin door?

thanks SO MUCH!

Since there seems to be a few of us DVC members on this thread, I thought I'd check to see if any of you have Owners Lockers. We took ours on the cruise with us last time and it worked well. The locker itself fit under the desk area so it was out of the way. And it was great not having to pack all that stuff in our suitcases. To get the locker to our cabin, we labeled it with one of the tags for luggage.

What is an owners locker? I asked DH and he said he never heard of this either. Can you give me more info?

Thanks!

Can someone give me an idea of how much cash I should bring? I realize that DCL uses a cashless system, but I am wondering how much I should bring for shore excursions(tips, food, drinks, etc.), and any other miscellaneous items.

Also, does anyone with late dining have room for a single person?

Thank you for your help.

:goodvibes
I've got 2 cheese lovers too. However, mine like the cheap cheese :thumbsup2. Both of the kids could eat cheddar, colby, or American all day. Cameron loves pepper jack too. As long as they like the cheap cheese, perhaps I shouldn't introduce them to the expensive cheeses or they could break me with the amount of cheese they eat :rotfl:
We love good cheaddar. It is horribly pricey here! We moved here and suddenly Marika's cheese (blue cheese, brie, camambert, rocofort--how the heck is that spelled?:lmao: etc) is cheap and my and Rio's cheese (Cheddar) is expensive! So hard to get used to:confused:

Was anyone here able to get in on Disney's UP and Monsters inc. deal at target. I stopped by the target where my workshop was Wednesday and Thursday and they were out of Monsters Inc. :(
No Targets In Canada :(:sad1::confused3

We really miss Target. In fact our BIG plans for how to spend disembarkation day is to go to Target and eat Mexican food for lunch. We are totalyl excited to go to Target:lmao:

Congrats:woohoo:

Wow. That explains it! The one we were using is the one linked on the main cruise meet thread for Dec. 5: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1674660. So glad we discovered this. Perhaps we can at least get the 2nd one linked on that page? Not sure how to make that happen, or get them merged....

Amy, please apologize to Julia for me. I DID search before starting that other thread but somehow failed to find it. I hate that she has been over there all alone for so long. Marika feels just awful about it too:sad2:

You need to sign up. Even on slow cruises the tastings tend to fill up.

Scot--we would be happy to have you dine with us. I have almost asked you before. That said, we will not be in the least bit offended if you would rather not dine at a table with kids (they will be 11 and 13 Christmas week). We like them, but you may not! They tend to behave themselvs and look forward to dinners on the ship almost more than any other part:confused3 As far as cash goes, we don't spend much at port (maybe $50 total on taxis). We like to eat on the ship--but even if we do get soemthing most of the shops and restrurants take credit cards. Other than that we like to have about $50 in small bills to use to tip porters and room service. We usually have plenty left over, but I would rather have too much than too little

Hey everybody--I just updated the roll call list to include our group activites, etc. PLEASE someone check to be sure I got that right--and if you would all check your listings and let me know if I made a mistake I would really appreciate it:goodvibes Just click on the link in my signature to be taken directly to the posting:thumbsup2
THANKS

The schedule looks good to me. Can't wait to meet everyone!! The missing message board numbers are Fwd DisneyCruisin' in 6014, Midship is Rowst3 in 2560.

Is the lanyard pick up directly to the left of the Mickey ear entrance across from the cafe in the terminal? They now have that area roped off there for cruisers to have their photos taken for their KTTW cards. Please let me know if I'm mistaken of the location given or if it's to the immediate left at the top of the escalator?
