Dec 5, 2009 -- now traveling to Tortola

I know for the alcohol tastings there is a fee, but the others are free :)

I'm only planning on doing the Art of Entertaining (cooking class). I don't plan on doing any of the tastings since I don't drink. Just hoping to find some good recipes and techniques to show up my brother-in-law's new wife.

Thanks! Rosemary

Can anyone tell me how a minor's passport should be signed? The Passport Agency wasn't very helpful. If I understood the person correctly, because DD is under 16, me as her mother can print her name on the line and above it, sign my name and put (mother) after my signature. Should DH sign it too? I looked online to confirm what I was told but couldn't find anything. We've never had passports before and I don't want to get to port and not have it signed.

Thanks! Rosemary

I just signed as mother on my son's last one. His new one will hopefully show up this week and I plan to sign it the same. I've never had an issue with it.

For those of you who are staying anyWDW Resorts and plan on visiting the Parks, the late nite news just reported that Disney was/has installed hundreds of sanitation stations in the parks. with the wipes and Purell type lotions. Thats good news w/all the flu stuff going around. Just thought I'd pass the word:thumbsup2

Marika and Rio sign their own. They have since they were old enough to get their names down at all--copying them in letter by letter as toddlers (I think it was left blank before that, but I cannot really remember). I am not sure if that is oficially correct or not--I had the application person at the post office tell me that is what should be done once when Marika was little. They are on their third passports, and have been quite a few places, and having their own signature there has never been questioned (even when we moved here and everything was pretty well scrutinized--with passports out of our control for 3 days, eek! to get visas).

Remember Everyone to pack your own personal hand sanitizers for air travel! Wrap them up in the official-type zip lock bags, but take them with you on the flight or buy them from the concessions at the airport. Disney is Clean, Clean, Clean. The other areas we encounter prior to cruise may not be.:sad1:

They don't sell hand sanatizer here:mad: but our friends will have some bottles for us when we arrive:thumbsup2 They DO sell bottles of santizer for surfaces in trave sizes though--so everyone has those and a pack of tissues for their carryons and knows to spray and wipe down the seat belt latches, arm rests tray tables, window blind and safety card before toucing with bare hands:rolleyes1

Okay--having just had the sikc kid I am really not someone you all want to trust with advice:lmao: but I also have read many tiems that the germiest item in a restruraunt is the menu--so I always send everyone to wash up AFTER we order.

Ohh ohh ohh--this can turn into a Question of the Week What is your tip to keep from getting sick while on vacation????

Sick? People get sick on vacation??:scared1::eek:

Christine always has her hand sanitizer handy to give to the kids.

Personally, I wash my hands a lot.

Thanks for that menu note Hadley. Never thought of that before!

Well, none of the Mickey Surfers will get sick(knocking on wood);)

I never thought of the menu thing either until I read it--but it makes sense; everyone touches the menus but they don't tend to get cleaned unless they get sticky or something:sick:

Barry, how is Chrstine feeling?:confused3

Hadley, we all have had sick kids recently. The Flu bug tore thru our son's family about 3 weeks ago, DS, DIL, and both Grandsons had it pretty bad. Then it moved to my DD and grand daughter. Carol and I havent figured out why it missed us seeing as we see the others a few times ea week. must be all the vitamines and juice we take.:) But then we arent out in the school system like they are or at work anymore. Retirement has ity's advantages.;)
Any advice or suggestions are appreciated.:upsidedow

It's a petri dish there ... per my MD's office. They did remind me what a great job I am doing wearing the purell mini bottle with me all the time. I refill it every couple days or so.

I am avoiding people like the plague right now.

Oh I wish I had that option with the kids before the trip:rolleyes1 1200 people in their school (and almost 20% out last week). Rio's lead teacher is out today. One nice thing--they do not have substitute teachers here--so Rio called, on his lunch break, to say he will get to come home 3 hours early since those are the three hours his lead teacher has (yes, if the last teachers of the day are out sick and those clases are cancelled they jsut let the kids go--no contacting parents; it takes some getting used to:upsidedow).

If it is H1N1 maybe you and Carol had it the first ime around and are immune:confused3 I ahve heard that is possible.

We've already taken care of one of the things I think is most important - getting the flu shot/mist. The two years we didn't get the flu shot, one or more of us has gotten the flu, one of the times while at WDW. While visiting WDW in Dec 06, DH, SIL and myself all got the flu while the kids, who had received their flu shot, did not get sick! I'm actually still waiting on the H1N1, but at least the other 3 have had it and we've all had the seasonal vaccine.

As far as other measures to keep from getting sick, hand sanitizer and frequent hand washing. DH may have a few to add later on.

WUVtigger--sorry about the loss of your brother

Fortunately we've never been sick on vacation. Our tips for staying healthy is just to constantly make sure the boys take their vitamins, get decent amounts of sleep and avoid hand rails, etc. I also make sure they wash their hands good before eating meals or snacks. I've got 2 purrell containers strapped to my camera bag and I make them use them after any ride that we have touched lap bars, seat belts, laser guns, etc. I also carry wipes and wipe down table tops before we eat. In bathrooms I make sure to use the hand towels to open up doors and turn off faucets. On planes I clean off the fold down tables and arm rests and bring my own reading material. In hotels I take mini cans of lysol and clean off remotes, phones, door knobs, light switches, etc.

We had our Disney Cruise Line house party and it was a lot of fun. DCL sent us little cards with token number/entry codes to win a 4 day cruise for 4 people. I have about 50 codes left over if anyone is interested please PM me. You can only use one per person and they allow you to gain extra entries by emailing 20 of your friends with the offer. If they apply, you get an extra entry for each. The sweepstake ends on 12/14. I know last year that 2 or 3 Disers won the same House Party sponsored DCL cruises after the Houseparty in Jan 2008.

Here is a great tip I heard a few years ago, if eating at a buffet clean hands before you enter the restaurant and again as soon as you sit down to eat after serving your plate, I also do not let my kids touch the serving spoons just their plates. I am not a germophobe but when on vacation the last thing I want to do is get sick.

I feel the same way:thumbsup2 I am pretty lax most of the time--bit on our big vacations I don't want to risk comming down with things if at all possible. I live in fear of the day we are denied boarding due to someone in our party being sick:eek:
