Dec 5, 2009 -- now traveling to Tortola

Amy: I read a lot, so it's hard to pick a recent favorite. I plan to bring either Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet or Sarah's Key (or both).
Gary: Thunder Below, by Eugene Fluckey.
Julia (9): The Amazing Benedict Society series, or Peter and the Star Catchers (about Peter Pan), or A Girl Named Disaster, or anything by Roald Dahl or Nick Sullivan. She obviously got my "loves to read" gene....
Olivia (4): Monster Parade
Has Julia read the third Benedict Society book yet? We haven't been able to get it here yet and Marika has been hankering for it. Is it just as good as the first two?
Hadley - thank you for the statistics. It has helped my see the situation is a much more hopeful light.

To all the rest of you- (Hanover - Tower - beachbrat - deebits - hurley03 - Carmine3377 - and Inkmahm) your prayers and good wishes have comforted and warmed me. I hadn't (although I should have) realized so many others have been touched by this cancer. Thank your for sharing. It's helped me put things in perspective.

I can't wait to meet all of you on the ship! I don't care what it takes. I'll be there.

Hugs - Christine

Christine--I bet taking the cruise and realxing after all your worry will be good for you. Your doctor would probably encourage you to go:goodvibes I am looking forward to meeting you for sure.

What to read.......Currently on a Dan Brown kick.....probably bring "The Lost Symbol"...
Lyd's political so probably Sara Palins Book or Beck's "Arguing with Idiots"..

Are you a librarian???!!! I was in New Hampshire (loved, loved , loved that job) and we could not read (but could surf if working the desk with no patrons) also. Often in the evenings two of us would be there (there always have to be two for safety) with all the shelving and bullitan boards and whatnot done and not a patron in the place and it would drive us bonkers that we were not supposed to read. A big part of my job was to keep up on adolescent literature, but I was not allowed to read any of it on the clock:rolleyes:
Yes ma'am, I absolutely love it (even though I get asked all of the time "when are you going to start teaching", I just love my job to much to leave, and being a youth services librarian I still get a chance to help kids out.
I am just starting a teen advisory board and I was worried to death no one would show up, well today I spoke to the 8th graders and ran out of applications during my first clas so had to run back and make more copies... our first meeting is week after next, I sure hope they all come.

I think I spoke too soon about the mamogram. I just got a call back because they found something. If it is malignant it's still to small to feel anything so that must be good. I have to go back in on Thursday. I don't know what this will do to the December plans. I'm just taking everything hour by hour now.

A little :wizard:(pixie dust) and :grouphug: (hugs) your way.

Just had to say..... cannot believe we will be cruising with Mickey in 30 days!! We have been watching the countdown for almost a year, cannot believe it is almost here!!::banana:

I know what you mean Kathryn! 4 weeks from today, we leave Canada for the south! (Ok, we leave Canada anyway, but spending the night in Buffalo, NY for an early flight out Thursday morning)

I am not sure what to bring to read. I have seen the Princess Bride movie a hundred times, but never read the book. If the book is so good, maybe that would be a fun one to bring to read. Thanks for the tip!

I will go book shopping right before we leave and I am sure I will pick mysteries that are easy to put down so I can enjoy running around with my boys! If anyone else likes mysteries let me know and anything I finish I will be happy to pass on!

You are in our daily prayers and with the pixie dust sent earlier you are sure to get a good result... I know your thoughts are on day to day and family... but if there is anyway you can work it out to take this cruise we would love to meet you and what could be more healing than a week with Mickey! We are also adding your name to our Breast Cancer awareness t-shirts that we update every year.... regardless of the result you took the time to make sure!!!!

She has not read #3 yet, but she is anxious to do so. We had an issue a couple of months ago with her not taking care of her books. I told her then that I wouldn't be buying her any books for a while. It has been just as hard for me as for her, especially when Benedict #3 came out. Julia and I have been reading them together, so I finally ordered it from Amazon the other day. I'm sure it will be great.

Julia will be thrilled to hear that she and Marika have similar reading interests.

Can someone help with this question? I used my Disney Vacation Club points for this trip, and there is a difference between the value season sailing for a St. Croix stop and the Tortola stop.

Should I expect a credit for the point difference, or am I not entitled to one? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, and I look forward to meeting all of you onboard in 4 weeks.

Scot

Us, too! We were on the 4 day Wonder cruise when the 2009 schedule was announced. We booked this cruise while on that trip.

Sorry, I don't know the answer. I never use my DVC points for cruising because cash is generally so much cheaper.

Your question brings up another one though. Were the cash prices less for itineraries including Tortola compared to St. Croix? Do we all have the same issue?

Thanks for pointing that out. I spoke with DVC this morning and they said it's all in DCL's hands. The person I was talking to said he has never seen this happen where DCL changed ports so close to a cruise. He also said that if DCL decides to reimburse the difference, DVC will notify everyone that booked with them of the points they are getting back. For us that's 14 points. BTW, we still never got notification of the change. My online check-in has changed over to Tortola, but neither DCL or DVC has sent us a letter. Hopefully our cruise documents will be corrected. We should be getting them any day now.

I'll let you know if I hear anything more.

Thanks! Rosemary

I actually think both Tortola and St Croix cost the same and were considered special cruises...we took a Totola in May and were planning on St Croix but of course it changed we are paying the same amt we paid for Tortola

Sorry for the pm confusion, I forgot that when I post something it doesn't keep in line........... will fix it and resend it. If you notice any info that is incorrect please pm me. I will resend it tomorrow. (super busy at work today trying to get this teen program up and running)

You are awesome! Thanks so much! I would imagine it would be good for only 1 flight of the pair we're taking to get to MCO, but I may save it until I get on the plane heading home on the 12th.

You're welcome! I think it is per email account as they are trying to get new customers. You could probably use it both ways if you had two different email accounts to sign up to Gogo with.
