Dec 5, 2009 -- now traveling to Tortola

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE.... another month down and we're getting closer to the sailaway party.....:cool1:

Question for those of us joining in the H1N1 paranoia.

Is everyone getting the flu shot?

Personally, I'm not overly concerned about the swine flu (though Miss Piggy did give it to Kermy). DW is committed to getting it for herself and all three kids, but I'm going to hold off on it.

How bout all of you?

I will probably wait to see if they offer it at work, as they have already given us the seasonal one. I am not particularly concerned, as we seem to have some type of virus floating around.

I am starting to print off the kids journals for the trip.

A dear dis sister sent me the clip art that I needed to make the decoder.

It will be the 1st page of their journals. We plan to have them write in them while they wait for their dinner every night.

No TOT's at my house ... yet :hippie::confused3

Just got back in from spending the evening with the kids. I swear, we definitely got more than we've been giving out. Not many kids out and about, but many houses wondering where all the kids are and giving our cuties extra because of that.

Shutting off the lights soon. Just teenagers coming around now.

I was going to donate the extra candy to the teacher's lounge at school
BUT dh reminded me that we would NEED candy at the movies on the cruise

I was able to get 2 more pages of the kiddos journals done while they were with their Daddy tonight.

NOW some neighbor thinks it's NEW YEAR's 'cause they are setting off FIREWORKS :confused3

We got one for our daughter and I'm glad we did. Three days later it went through her school and half of her class was out for a week. Her doctor recommended it mostly because she would be in contact with so many kids while on vacation. I have to agree with him, but he also doesn't understand how clean that boat is. My DH and I won't be getting one. DH may get a flu shot, but mostly because he has bad allergies.

Thanks! Rosemary

Yes! We've all had the regular flu shot/mist and both of the kids have had their H1N1 mist. DS does have to get a second dose in a couple of weeks. DH and I are still waiting on ours. We will get them if we can find them available somewhere. I'm beginning to think DH is immune to the H1N1 as he's around it all day. He works at one of the largest children's hospitals so unfortunately he's around it and sees the worst of the worst. I'm surprised they haven't given the shot to the employees yet but I guess they're saving the doses for the kids which I totally respect! He is real good though about wearing full mask, gloves, gown, ect any time he's treating someone with known/suspected swine flu.

We hardly get anyone on our street. I just leave some treat bags on the porch and then take my DD around the neighborhood. This is the last year I'm going to leave candy out. Someone felt compelled to steal my DD carved pumpkin that was sitting on the porch next to the candy bags. Oddly enough some of the bags were still left. I understand that people can be jerks, but my DD is 6 and just wants her pumpkin back.

We must have the same neighbor. Every year on July 4th our neighbor a few doors down sets of what I insist are illegal fireworks. Thanks to him, we have to lock our cats in a room with a window a/c unit and the tv on. If not they run for our basement and won't come out for days.

Haven't had too many of them! I left for awhile to take the kids but my dad said he'd hand it out. Wasn't much out of the bowl. Either he didn't hear the doorbell or he was too involved in the Texas football game that he didn't want to get up and get the door. Either are very possible!!! ANyway, we've been home about 30 minutes and we've have had one set of kids come by. The kids got a ton of candy and that is the last thing I need! I've worked too hard to loose several pounds and I don't need to gain it all back! I think I'll send it to the hospital with DH and let him give it away.

of the places we are going to visit?

I had one from the last cruise ... but I don't know where it came from ...

I want to use it for the dk's journals which will be a part of their school work while we are gone.

thanks!

I think we got one a map while on the ship last time, but I don't remember for sure. I may just be thinking of the map that is on the tv showing where we have been and where we are going.

We had essentially no trick or treaters, I think. That's pretty much the same every year. The houses are too far apart to make it worthwhile for the kids from the area to do their TOT here. And there aren't that many kids that live in the neighborhood so if we get any TOTers, it is usually grandkids from the neighbors. We put a huge bowl of candy at the front door with a note to help themselves. The bowl was pretty much full when we got home last night.

My original plan was to take all that excess candy to work tomorrow to get it out of the house. That won't happen now, although I do plan to go in the office tomorrow to clear out all of my personal pictures, etc. It will be hard, but I can face everyone and have a good attitude while I do it. I know I can.

inkmahm: That will definitely not be fun tomorrow, and if you are worried about it, maybe you could go in today instead? If you do go tomorrow, I hope you'll have something good to look forward to afterwards.

Good luck!

I can't go in today, I had to give my key card back to HR on Thursday. I have another one that I have to turn in yet, but I don't want to use it to get in the building when I know I'm not supposed to be there anymore on my own. I'll get through tomorrow. I figure the sooner I get my stuff out, the better. And I had a good relationship with most people in the office so I will have a chance to actually say good bye to a few more of them. That won't be easy, either.

Something good to look forward to? That's a great idea. Now I just need to think of something.

How about, say . . . a cruise? Do you have your packing list ready? Without a list I would take forever to get packed, and still leave important stuff behind.

I make up a folder with a calander of the cruise days (plus any pre or post days of vacation) and what we are doing on each of them. I also put in it any forms I need to board the ship, reservartions for pre and post hotel stay, airline information, tickets, Castaway club card, Disney dollars card, park tickets etc. Also go in it. A three prong/two pocket folder with clear pages one can put pages in and take out easily works well. I even include a lists for what I need if I go to a theme park, or a beach/water park for the day. I'm one of those people who heads into the kitchen and once I get there I can't remember why I headed there to begin with. I'd blame old age, but I did the same thing when I was in my twentys.

BTW Does anyone know what is appropriate for FL and the Carabbean in December? :confused3 If it's warm enough for shorts I'm sure white is OK. But what about slacks? White or black? White shoes or black?

:beach: Oh, and I can't wait till December!!! :goodvibes

We had the same experience - we saw half the kids we normally do. Not sure why that was but we enjoyed it anyway!!

Are any of you pin collectors? DD9 enjoys pin trading, and I am thinking of introducing DD4 to it on this trip. Is is too early?
