Dec 5, 2009 -- now traveling to Tortola

Jessica is leaning toward some sort of ninja/Japanese fighter (I'm pushing for one more use of that very nice kimono we splurged on in EPCOT last year). She is blonde and thinks spraying her hair black for the night would be good. She would to dress all in black but it isn't very safe after dark. We usually go out with 8 other local cousins and a couple parents. Jerry usually stays home (used to hand out light necklaces to kids in our last neigborhood but there isn't many trick-or-treaters where we live now).

Too bad she is getting over dressing up as a princess - she has a great Jasmine costume and we have a really neat Genie adult costume I picked up on clearance at a Disney outlet. Maybe I can still talk her into it if I let her still wear the sword???

Hello all - Does anyone have a member in their group who will be celebrating a 32nd or 33rd birthday ... either on the cruise, or thereafter? I have a Disney button (not pin) for each birthday, and thought I could give it to someone who might have use for either or both.

32nd birthday button: @ 1.5" wide x 3" tall, includes Peter Pan, Croc, Mr. Smee, Hook

33rd birthday button: @ 2" x 2" square, displayed as a diamond, includes Tink, Daisy, Donald, Goofy, Mickey, Minnie, Pluto & Stitch w/birthday cake.

Of course, if you want either or both buttons, you NEED NOT HAVE to celebrate either birthday. First come - first served. I will either deliver to your stateroom on the cruise, or mail to you prior to the cruise - free of charge.

Well, I have a 33rd birthday coming up in March. If no one else has claimed or if someone else doesn't ask that is celebrating while on the cruise, I'd love to have it:goodvibes.

33rd Birthday is YOURS! LMK if you want me to deliver it to your stateroom, or mail it to you. I'm not an expert on this site, so I am not sure if there are PM capabilities.

If you have pm'd me your info you are on the list :)
Right now we are up to 13 cabins

Hi mommy,
your boys look adorable as Mario and Luigi,
and I agree to a cutoff before the end of November
as we are leaving from Wisconsin on the 30th and I need
to shop and pack the treats before then.
Is this okay with you and everyone?
maybe the beginning of November or at least the 10th?
thanks! and have fun trick or treating.

I hope nobody minds if I post anotherQuestion of the Week
Since we're 2 weeks away from all the ghosts and ghoulies to come out (sorry Hadley if they don't do this in Germany)What are your children dressing up as this Hallowe'en? Or will they stay home and give out/eat candy?

My Little girl is going to a fall festival at our church dressed as Queen Amidala. I know this is overdone but she has dark hair and dark eyes just like Natalie Portman so she looks so cute.

How cute!!! Just checking in to see if you got my PM?

IF so, how are you going to surprise them?

I am keeping this cruise a surprise from our kids.
I did it to them last year too!:lmao:

I just realized that I have scheduled to be in the school on Dec 4th. I have to figure out how to get ALL of the stuff done that we need done before we leave for school in the am.

I just bought new swimming suits for dh and the dkids. I am going to have them try them on tonight. I told them that I was buying them new suits because they were on sale :rotfl: AND their old suits were very faded from the salt pools we have been in lately.

I have been throwing the clothes for the cruise into dh's office closet. :scared1: I got to get them into a suitcase later today.

Anyone else started packing?

I do plan on making 1 laundry trip on the cruise.

We'll be at the Magic Kingdom on Halloween night this year. I've got a Tink Halloween shirt and blinking black/orange Mickey beads to wear. DS12 will most likely wear a Ravens NFL jersey and DS8 will probably wear a Star Wars costume (he has several) or a ghost ninja costume he got this year. DH will probably not wear any sort of Halloween related shirt.

Wuv Tigger--We haven't even started to pack for our trip next week! We are last minute packers for the most part though I have bought several new dress shirts and a suit for each of the boys for our December cruise and have them in my closet. I'm afraid to take the tags off though with the way my boys are growing. DS12 has grown 3 inches since May alone and although he's only 90 pounds, I had to get him a size 16 suit for the sleeves to be long enough.

We surprised them with a cruise back in 2006 and it was hard to keep from them but so worth their responses. It was DS12's 9th birthday and they thought we were going to Cocoa Beach for the day to wave bye to the Magic. We pulled right up to the luggage drop off where I gave my DS "one last birthday gift" and it was the DCL document book wrapped in birthday paper. They were utterly shocked and were even more shocked to find their grandparents joined us for the trip in the terminal. Now every time we go to Florida they are always asking us if we'll surprise them again...

Anyone KEEPING this TRIP a SECRET from kids/other family members? IF so, how are you going to surprise them?

Well, I'm too excited about this cruise to not tell the kids ahead of time. We told them a year ago at our last Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, the time was too long for them to wait so now they're in this waiting game for over a year and FINALLY the days are approaching and their interest is warming up again.

We still haven't told them of the 2 nights pre-cruise at CBR. I asked DW when we should tell them and her response was just surprise them with that. For now they just think we're staying at a hotel near the airport and that it has a pool.

They will get the idea when we board the DME to the resort.

No gift baskets planned or anything, though it would be fun, just nothing we found that really jumped out at us.

Barry--I love your question of the week. We have always loved dressing up for Halloween (and seeing all the other great costumes people come up with--Marika and I both have more fun handing out candy and seeing people than trick or treating:rotfl2:) Traditionally the kids have coordinated costumes and often all four of us worked together. Last year my best friend and his husband also coordinated with us as well all met at WDW and went to MNSSHP together (we were 6 characters from a MIdsummer's Nightt Dream--Marika's favourite play and Rio loves the character of Puck and hopes to play him someday). So, we are rather sad this year that Halloween is virtually non existant in Germany. It does appear to be catching on and some of the theme parks have Halloween celebrations. We will go to Legoland next Saturday to celebrate. We are told that what few Germans do dress up (in teh theme parks) see Halloween as just the macabre/scary holiday and all costumes will be of the ghost, zombie, etc variety. That is not our cup of tea so the kids have decided to go as a magician (Rio using any chance he can to wear his tux:rotfl:) and a rabbit comming out of a giant top hat (Marika). They wanted to do the cast of Wicked (with Marika as Elfie, Rio as Fiyero, Me as Glinda and Dave as the Wizard) but figured NOone would know who we are. Wicked comes through ehre on tour in November so maybe next year:rolleyes1

I really have liked hearing what everyone else is doing. Mommyoftwinfants your sons looked so cute last year:goodvibes

That's what my brother does with his family of 6! One year they were all various members of the Star Wars cast, Another time they were Harry Potter and one other time they all did Lord of the Rings. Great family fun! (But someone has to stay home and give out candy :()

Erik would likely love to coordinate something like that for next year, I just have no time to set anything up this year and DM is very busy with home renovations right now.

Surprising the kids: We planned our cruise in March and just told the kids a few weeks ago. We have surprised them with trips several times, but have found that it's fun for our family to do the planning, packing, and countdown together, so we surprise them a month or two before the trip. This time, I quietly took DD9 aside and asked her to draw a picture for her sister. I pretended to think about it a minute and then suggested that she draw Mickey Mouse. Simultaneously, DH took DD4 aside and asked her to draw a picture of a boat for her sister. Then we had them give each other their drawings. Once they thanked each other, I put the drawings on the table, added a plus sign between them, and then put a printout of "DD4's favorite number = " in front of them. We did this when it was 65 days before our trip. DD4 is obsessed with the number 65 for some reason. I asked the kids if they could figure out the puzzle. DD9 figured out pretty quickly that it meant we had 65 days until we were going on a Disney cruise. They were very excited, and still are. DD4 watches the Disney Cruise DVD as much as we'll let her. DD9 has been helping with our preparations. I hope this gives you some ideas.

Halloween costumes: DD4 is going to be a fairy, and DD9 is going to be a mummy holding a baby that we found on Family Fun: http://familyfun.go.com/crafts/hall...Halloween Costumes: I Love My Mummy - Image;7

We kept it from the kids for a few months but like Amy said, such a fun part for us is the planning and the countdown so we decided to let them in on the secret. We told DS3 while we were waiting in line to pick DD10 up from school. When she got in the car, we told DS to tell his sister where we were going. He said "Sissy, we are going on the Mickey Mouse Boat!"

DD is having a lot of fun helping me plan our FE gifts. Some day I would love to keep it from them but I don't know if I'll ever be able to. :goodvibes

Anyone else started packing?

wuv tigger

Wow - you are on the ball.:thumbsup2 I thought I was an early packer, but I'm not starting for another week or two. I like leisurely putting items on our guest bed for a month or so before the trip.

Hey, speaking of packing, do you all know about packing cubes? I recently discovered them (thanks to the DISboards), and we LOVE them. I highly recommend trying them out.
