Dec 2011 Car Rental Rates

Finally.....a cheaper rate!

Originally had an economy car booked with National for pick up December 31st and return on January 7th. Cost was $185 plus taxes and fees for a total of $250.

Then Jetblue changed our flight home (instead of leaving at 7:40 am, we now depart MCO at 2:50 pm) meaning we needed the car for several additional hours. The time change for the drop-off bumped the final price (after tax and fees) to $282.95. :headache:

I ran a quote today through www.carrentalsavers.com and got a rental with Enterprise (exactly the same pick up/return times and car class) for $258.53 taxes and fees included. :thumbsup2 Not a huge difference (a savings of $24.42) but I will take it! :goodvibes

Hopefully this is the sign for all of us holiday travellers that the prices WILL come down! Fingers crossed for more savings as our departure dates grow closer!

I also just noticed that Hotwire's rates are way down for the same time period. I generally check them periodically (though not as often as carrentalsavers) and they have been in the $70/day range up until now. Today, they are showing at $27.95 per day for my dates.

This is info from another thread about what is offered on the premium aisle at Alamo: The Premiums we have are: Chrysler 300, Ford Taurus, Honda Accord, Maxima, just to name a few.
Also: A premium is the essentially the same size (as a full size), just a few better appointments.

I used this today to get a rate of $185 inclusive for our 10 day trip. They quoted me a Buick Regal. I am hoping it is a bigger car than a full size because there are 5 of us and I need something that holds 4 large size suitcases. We get in at noon so I hope we have a good choice of cars.

Do you have to be a member of Costco to use the code? (We aren't).

Yes, technically you are supposed to be a member. I always take my costco card but they have never asked to see it. I think BJ's codes and entertainment book codes get about the same rate if you have access to either of those. Hope you find something.

I just used 7015309 Costco with AU2852SDA Alamo Insider's double upgrade and got a midsize upgraded to a fullsize for 10 days, Dec 15-25, for $183. If you could live with a midsize, you could use AD2359fdf and get a midsize for $141.

Just got my premium with alamo down to $89 total!!! :cool1::cool1: Dec. 14-22 with costco code and $35 coupon. Checked twice today and the rental was $130 (still a good deal) but just checked again and it was down to $89. Can't believe it!

I've been on a business trip this week with very limited internet, so just checked my rates for the 1st time. Rates down at National again.

Midsize SUV is $162 from the 10-19th
Full Suv is $238
Full car on Aisle is $228 - down $69 from my last check in! :thumbsup2

Still using entertainment book and $35 coupon.
Alamo is a bit higher across the board with Costco and coupon.

Hope someone else is enjoying the falling rates as well.

National dropped again. This morning the entertainment code and ND8578ADT produced the following:

Midsize SUV @ $154
Stand SUV @ $226
Full size on aisle @ $228

These prices are for Dec 10-19th.

My Alamo hasn't changed in forever...sitting at $107 for 12/9-12/18 compact (Costco ID, Insiders $35 coupon)
National keeps dropping daily...$153 for a mid-size SUV for those same dates (Entertainment ID, $35 coupon)

I'm not getting the good rates because I want to pick up at CCC or Dolphin after riding the DME bus. 9 days midsize at CCC with National is $249.97.
I do have Alamo 9 days picking up at MCO/dropping off at Dolphin for $138.10 for 9 days midsize. If National doesn't go down, I'll stay with Alamo but DH does not want to drive. I told him to take DME and I'll get the car from Alamo and meet him at the resort. We still have 32 days to make a decision and cancel the one we don't want.

Our Alamo price went down again today for Nov 30 to Dec 9. Full size with taxes $134 with the Alamo insiders rate and $35 off coupon. It has gone down $100 in one week. :cool1:

Our 10 day SUV rental seems to keep going down every couple of days. 10 days SUV rental, taxes in, additional driver included for $160 dollars is a lot less than we budgeted.

It's definitely been worth the effort to keep checking prices every day.

My AutoSlash reservation with Dollar went down again today. Started at $177 and now it is $128. Best rate I have found. Dec. 17 - 21 out of Sanford.

I'm down to $77.51 for a midsize from Alamo for Dec 3rd-7th. This is about 10 bucks cheaper than the compact I had before, so I'm happy! I used codes off Visa's website - Contract ID 7015504 and Coupon Code AD2338FDF which gave me 20% off and $35 off (you must use a visa to get this deal).

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread. I was planning on booking through Hotwire because it has been coming in at around $215 for the past several months and I thought that was pretty good. I started checking here about a week ago and was able to book direct through Alamo. I started at $205 last week but just got a total price of $158 for a Standard car, Nov. 30-Dec. 10, out of Sanford. Much less than I thought it would be.:thumbsup2

I also want to thank everyone for all the tips posted! We were looking at renting through Hotwire for $130 for 5 days in December...but now we're booked using www.carrentalsavers.com and getting an Intermediate with Alamo for $76 taxes included! :cool1: The DIS rocks!:banana::banana:

Jumping on this thread. Talked to a friend last night and may be throwing together a last minute visit to WDW (Dec 8-13). Keep in mind we just got back last weekend, and my next trip is mid-January. I'll find out today if we're a go or not. I booked the mid-size SUV with National really cheap for a total of $121 after taxes and fees. The mid-size SUV was cheaper than the compact cars. I would prefer using the aisles, but emerald reserve is good too, esp. when I know that I can choose the mid-size SUV.
