Dec 18, 2011 - Disney Dream

Hello other "Guilty of Planning WAY Ahead" travelers!

My in-laws are celebrating their 50th Anniversary in Dec. of 2011, and they've always wanted to take a Family Vacation. So...I just booked all 12 of us on the Dream for Dec. 18. We are ranging in ages from 5-72 (at time of sailing)

This will be my 2nd Disney Cruise. DH and I took our boys on a 7-day cruise in 2006. I can't wait to be going again! Even my DS that will be 18 at the time of the trip is excited to be going on Disney again! My other DS will be 14 when we go. Their cousins (both boys) ages 9 and 5 at time of sailing don't really "get it" yet that we are all taking a vacation together, but the older one said he doesn't want to get on a boat in the ocean because he was afraid of sharks! LOL! I pulled up the website and showed him some pictures of the other ships and his eyes and his smile got so big!!

Looking forward to seeing this thread fill up!!!

I'm lurking right now since I'm already going on the Magic in June of 2011 to the Med. :surfweb:
We really wanted to see WDW in Dec, sail on the new Dream and visit the WWOHP at Universal. :santa:
So what better way to celebrate Christmas but with the best of all the worlds?? :confused3
The prices are right if I book now but I need another week or so to plan.
My traveling family consists of DH, DS(16), DS(13), DS(12), DS(28), DDIL(:lovestruc), and me right now. I will be encouraging the rest of my family to join us for another family reunion at WDW! :woohoo:
Send me some pixie dust that this all works out.

LOL well, we've not switched yet. But Galveston is just so close for us.

What started the DCL Dream for us was my DD Makayla seeing an ad on tv for the Atlantis waterparks. But, if we went to Nassau, I'd also want to go to Blue Lagoon for the dolphin encounter. I know that Atlantis does the dolphin encounter as well - but the one at Blue Lagoon had better feedback on tripadvisor. So that was when we started talking about doing the back to back. The only thing we would do twice would be Castaway Cay. Well, the shows/meals on board too. My DH even requested I book two different rooms - one on the port side & one on starboard so we could see different views both ways. It seemed fun.

I hear ya on the convenience factor!! Atlantis and dolphin encounter ARE both great experiences. And that's a really good idea booking different rooms on opposite sides of the boat. If I was going to do it, I was planning to book the same room because I hate packing. :headache: Aww, I hope you guys stay with us!

It could be a year of Disney cruises for you. Welcome, I'll put you in the tentative bucket for now! :goodvibes

Thanks for the warm welcome! We're looking forward to celebrating my in-laws milestone with them! They were a tough sell on the Disney Cruise, but I'm confident they will love it as much as we do! Yes, we have a lot of boys! It can get pretty noisy around here!

I'm the "over-planner" of our group so I'm sure I'll be spending a lot of time on the boards over the next year and a half!

That is sweet. But we are switching. As much as I want to try out DCL some day - the new Carnival ship being so close is just too convenient to pass up. We save $ on the cruise + not having to fly. More $ for excursions. :) I have to say - giving up the Disney touch and that aquaduck is not easy. Hopefully some day.

I have no doubt you will have a fabulous time! Although I've never cruised with DCL (or anyone else for that matter) I do know Disney does things right. I hope to catch someone's trip report on here after you get back!

Funny, on our last cruise my in-laws came with us. It was originally a hard sell for them too but they loved it and had a great time. Plenty of adult stuff to do on board, but they didn't believe me when I first told them.

My dd's noisy too, and she'll be 5. I'm sure it's an age thing and not a gender thing. :upsidedow

We've cruised on DCL 2x already, they definitely do it right! :thumbsup2

Have a great time on your cruise!

Just got off the Wonder on Friday and booked this cruise. It might not stick. Depends on money (can I get it PIF in time?) and whether the kids dad takes them to NM in December 2011, but for the moment, I grabbed it.

I have two DDs who will be 9 1/2 and a newly minted teenager (she turns 13 on 12/9) on this cruise. This will be our 4th DCL.

I love the idea of cruising closer to home (we live in Houston) and out of Galveston, but my kids love DCL so much that I am going to milk it as long as they are young enough to appreciate it. :rotfl2:

For the poster who mentioned the dolphin encounter at Blue Lagoon... we did this a couple of years ago and loved it! Very convenient through DCL bu expensive. Worth it for the once in a lifetime pics and experience.

How about some photos to get us feeling the groove?

Welcome aboard Lisa, and thanks for the pics! I love the one in your signature! :goodvibes

We just booked this cruise! Our group so far is DH, Me, DD5, & DD4 ... but I am trying to get other friends and family to join us.

DH and I went on the Magic E. Caribbean last Dec. (our first cruise) and had a great time! I am really looking forward to the DDs' first cruise!

We'll be on the cruise too! It'll be me, DH & DD (6)! It'll be our 2nd DCL cruise and DD's 1st, also celebrating DH's birthday.

Count me in if there is a Fish extender exchange! It seems like fun and hey, it's Christmas!

Hi and welcome! I'm adding you to the list! :goodvibes

I saw your countdown ticker, you're going to WDW in Jan?

Just checking in . . . . Wow, we are from Texas too so we've got over half of our group from here! That's cool. :3dglasses

Well soon it will be one year and we can start a countdown! :dance3:

Need to add on the in-laws (MIL & FIL) too! They decided to join us!

Who all is from Tx and where from? I'm in the Dallas/Ft Worth area.
and No, we decided to skip going in late Jan/early feb to go for the cruise instead. :) I just haven't changed my ticker yet.

Ooh, gotcha! I'm currently booked for a week late Jan into early Feb (for my birthday) but am actually not 100% sure if we're going...was going to say I might run into you a bit early! :3dglasses

Been really busy here lately but hope all is well. I had to :rotfl: that we're almost at a 1yr countdown. I'm with ya on the countdown!!

:beach: Looks like there is going to be alot of us Texans on this cruise!! :cool1:

We just booked today. We were booked on the Dec 19 2010 cruise (yes, this coming Christmas!) but for a variety of reasons we had to change it. So, now we are on this cruise! We are soooo excited about being on the Dream!! :cloud9:

Its just DD, who will be 10 at the time, and me. We are from the Houston area. This will be our second Disney cruise, at least for now. ;) Once the Magic starts sailing out of Galveston in 2012, we will take many more. Okay, so that is just a rumor, but I'm going to believe its true until its proven otherwise... :)

I saw that another Texan has a 9 1/2 year old, so I hope we can get the girls together. On our last cruise we met another family with a dd my dd's age right here on the cruise meet, and the 2 girls had a great time together.

We're in for FE's if anyone has organized that yet.

Looking forward to getting to know all y'all better! :wave2:

Hiya! :wave2: If Magic was cruising out of NY we'd be on more too! Looks like neither rumor came true. :sad1:

Btw, no one's organized the FE yet. I'm trying to keep track of cruisers but whoever wants to organize the FE is welcome to, that's a big job on its own. :flower3:
