Captain Cook's for a quick bite. Ick. (That's from dh who eats McDonald's and thinks Taco Bell puts together decent Mexican.) So, definite pass for us.
'Ohana - character breakfast. Decent buffet type eats. Yummy potato casserole thing (yeah, that's the technical name
) and the rest was fine. Powdered eggs though. Bleck. Good character interaction with Chip, Dale, Mickey and Goofy.
Cinderella's Royal Table Character Breakfast: Good food, great service (Siham) and nice character interaction. Loved the fresh fruit and stuffed 'french toast'. We ate early and entered a nearly empty dining room. The lobby was mobbed as we left. Also, my girls recieved the first of their many wonderful moments with cast members. As they (the girls) are apt to do, they all thanked the hostess profusely as we left. She stopped us and led us to the elevator. As we entered, she asked me to push the 'open door' button while she spoke with us. She then told the girls (10, 7 and 2) to hold out their hands. She told us that she was giving them a special gift because of their kindness. She gave each a handful of Mickey ear glitter and told them to sprinkle a bit at each of their favorite rides to say 'thanks'. She then admonished each to save 1 piece for under their pillow to place with a wish. "After all, Cinderella says a dream is a wish your heart makes. May your dreams come true." Then down we went with 3 awe struck faces. VERY cool!
Crystal Palace: Lunch with Pooh and pals. By far our favorite. I have Tigger the 2nd at my house (the 7yo) so when it was our turn with Mr. Stripes she jumped up and said "Will you bounce with me?" Up, down, up, down, up....you get the picture.
Loved Pooh, Piglet and Eyeore as well. (I'm trying to post some pics here, but I'll put the URL for our Shutterfly site at the bottom if I can't figure it out.)
Pecos Bill's Cafe: It's a burger. Great fixins bar but a mob on the day we were there. Used our Quick and Casual vouchers without so much as a raised eyebrow. Fabulous service.
Whispering Canyon Cafe: The older girls were at the Cub's Den and Bob and I went with 2yo. She was asleep in the stroller and while we certainly didn't expect quite our server was accomodating and let us skip the shenanigans. (Candi, and she was wonderful.) BBQ all you can eat was ok, but just ok. Fabulous corn bread (I like Jiffy
) but I would order from the menu next time. Yummy mixed berry margarita in a half yard cup. Bob had a nice Honey Ale. Too full for dessert. BTW, while we were there a couple was having issues with their meal. I only saw, didn't hear, so I do not know if it was service/food/bill or what. However, the manager appeared and while I have NO idea what transpired, he ended the converstaion by turning from the table, sticking out his hand in an abrupt wave (like 'talk to the hand') and saying "WHATEVER" rather loudly. Now, the couple was being quite and not making a scene. I don't care what they said or who was right. That kind of behavior from management is unacceptable. Just something to think about.
Garden View Cafe: For Tea. WOW!!! Denis was our server. This was for my 10yod and I.....just us girls. We dressed up and were treated like queens. We both had the Buckingham Palace and received the following:
Finger sandwiches: (I cannot remember which bread went with which filling. The breads were pumpernickle, marble rye, potato and I believe something else. Sorry.) The fillings were: grilled pear with gorgonzola cheese (I know, but seriously, it was FAB!!!!!); chicken with almond salad; salmon pate'; watercress and cucumber; egg salad. Wonderful, but I did think the watercress and cucumber was like a salad sandwich. Not my thing. This course also included an onion tartlet. Now, Megan and I detest grilled or cooked onions and almost pushed this away. THAT would have been foolish. It was scrumptious. Sweet and light and you must try some.
We both had Earl Grey and it was incredible. We also ate scones (I think they had golden raisins baked in) with Devonshire cream and strawberry jam. I didn't know what Devonshire cream was, but swallowed my pride and asked Denis how to eat the scones and such. He suggested scone with cream and jam ....like a biscuit, but better.
And it was! The cream is like a cross between sweet cream and butter. Very light and creamy and just a hint of flavor. We also had a raspberry tart with this course. Megan liked it but I thought it had too much crust.
Next came Strawberries and the most heavenly whipped cream!! A giant bowl. We were stuffed when finished. It was expensive ($46 with tip) but well worth it for such a luxury. We sat next to a generous couple who shared tips about rides and they told us that they had just been in England. She insisted that this tea exceeded her experience in Kensington Palace. High praise indeed!!
Tusker House: We planned to go for lunch but were in AK early so had breakfast. I bought 2 breakfast sandwiches (with potatoes) 2 fruit cups with yogurt, 2 muffins and 1 danish. Also i juice and 2 waters. ($34) It was for 5 and we had 1 muffin and 1 fruit cup left for later. Fabulous food, good service and a lovely dining room. The hash browns are more like a casserole prepared with bell peppers, onions (no invasive flavor) and some cheese. Delicious, but definitely not for folk who like their taters plain!
Polynesian Room Service: Had, on varying occassions, burger, grilled chicken sandwich, quesadilla and pizza. The pizza was lame but everything else was delicious and huge! Dh and I could split a sandwich and we are generally big eaters. It always arrived hot and quickly and was set up with table cloth and silver by the deliveryman. (We had fries with the sandwiches and these were always fresh, hot and yummy.) This is an expensive option but worth it if you weigh the conveniece versus eating anywhere else at Disney prices. Of course, if Captain Cook's had been palatable we may have chosen it instead. At any rate, great service and food.
Counter service from: Mexico, China and Germany. Fine food. Sweet and sour chicken and the egg rolls in China are the best we have had. Ever.
I have to mention that my dh and girls thought WDW had the most wonderful popcorn. I'm certain we kept them in business during our stay!
Bottom line: It all costs too much!
But who cares, right? Just know before you arrive that your food is overpriced.
Buffets are by far the best bet. Pick a character meal and relax. We spent at least an hour at each character meal (2 hours at tea) and NEVER felt rushed. Ok, it was December, but there were always long lines outside. We had PS for all of our sit downs and that made life much easier.
