Dec 08 Waitlist thread

Congrats on the waitlist coming through, but I am a little confused by this. Does this mean the member was at the top of the waitlist when they called so the room would have gone to them whether they called or not, or did they just give it to them because they happened to be on the phone? I don't know if I'm making any sense...

yah, I don't get it either. :confused3

Just to clarify...if I already have a day by day waitlist in place, it's still there, right? The no day by day waitlisting is just for new reservations?

Thanks!

Correct.

Still checking every day for our December SSR waitlist. No luck yet. :worried:

Same.

Is it possible that more people are just checking in on Sunday? If nobody is checking out that would cause the lack of rooms

But people staying through Monday would also complicate the Saturday, and people arriving Sunday would complicate the Monday.

I suppose those if you have several parties leaving Monday and some additionals arriving Sunday, that is where the biggest overlap is. So, basically, what we need is for people to arrive either a day later or leave a day earlier to get filled on 12/7. ;)

Yes, all WL requests in place before the policy change are still in good standing...Good luck with your WL :goodvibes

Let me ask you all this - at what point do you give up on a waitlist request. I guess I'm thinking if someone was going to cancel the week of Christmas, taking into account ADR's, travel, etc. I really don't think they will be canceling that close to December. Would you give it to September? October?

I replied to this as well, but it showed up on the previous page. :confused3

It depends ... there are people who switch and swap out, which could trigger a waitlist ... and there are people that cancel due to unforseen circumstances. Some may have planned to go, and then 3 months before find out that they cannot, or would rather go somewhere else. Some airlines prevent booking outside of 6 months, so that could cause a few to trigger as people attempt to adjust their stays.

That said, I think that the biggest WL trigger event occurs right around the 7 month window as people perform their swaps in and out. After that, they still trigger, but it's based more on unforseen events as mentioned.

We got the room we wanted two days before we were set to leave....We had reservations at SSR...We wanted AK....We were on the waitlist until 7 days prior...Nothing came through...At that point I called twice daily....Two days before the CM at MS was so surpirsed when a two-bedroom, savanna view came up....We jumped on it...So it can happen....People get sick, have a problem with their job, fight, what ever...Life sometimes gets in the way at the last minute....So do not give up hope...That is if you have another room as a back up....We had plane tickets, bags packed, ADR set, so we were going no matter what...Those of you that do not have a room at all are in a different boat...But I wish you all luck!

At that point though, your SSR points went into holding ... something folks might want to consider. Obviously that worked for you, but might not work for everyone. :)

Huh??? That comment doesn't make any sense. The points made for the original ressie would just be applied to the AKV ressie.

Ooops! I was thinking the other way around: AKV to SSR. Since an SSR stay takes less points, you'd have 'extra' points to do something with.

So, while I was mistaken and this specific instance didn't warrant my concern (sorry) :goodvibes -- it's still something to think about when switching resorts. :)

So is that correct that the "extra" points from the original reservation would go into holding? I might have thought that they wouldn't since you were moving reservations, not cancelling....but I could also see that it could be what DVC does.

Since you're changing resorts, you're effectively cancelling and rebooking the reservation. So if you have extra points, you have extra points.

It's a good thing, really ... if this happened outside of 30 days, they wouldn't go into holding and you could do what you wanted with them. Not that having them in holding is necessarily a big deal, it's just something folks should be aware of, imo. :)

Another detail to try and store in my brain for future reference! :upsidedow
