Debt Dumpers 2026

What's everyone's goal for May?

Mine is to pay off another credit card with a small balance. Only about $400, but the rest of my paychecks are going to bills and to paying down our shared credit card. It's been nice since the cruise payments are complete, but I've added to the bill recently by buying things for the cruise. :charac2:

We are out of debt but I still like to post here since I got out of it on these threads... but my goal this month is to to save as much as humanly possible for my kids college accounts. We got a very late start there... My son is in 8th grade so we don't have a ton of time left. I'd like to get an extra 500 in his this month, but we will see. We just got pack from Punta Cana and had a spent April, so I'd like to reign it in in May.

Goal for May is to survive. I'm close to paying a few things off that will lower how much we spend each month.

I'm going to try and get $150 ahead this weekend to order some parts for hubby truck. Should cover everything he needs minus tires. Then I'll work on 2 of those at a time.

I don't have a specific goal--we're debt-free except for the mortgage, but I like to keep my "cheap" skills sharp.

We have a big insurance payment due, and I'm waiting to see if we get more medical bills--I had emergency surgery in Jan., I haven't seen anything from my 5+ weeks in rehab. The hospital bill's been paid--we owed $925, the insurance picked up the remaining $104k. But, you know how it goes--radiology, anesthesiology bill separately, who knows what else.

Meanwhile, I have a kid birthday, a college graduation, a vacation (paid for), and my oldest is buying a house. We aren't helping her with the down payment, but will give a substantial gift after closing.

On the good side, I applied for (and got) Social Security. In addition to my first deposit, they sent me 4 notices of potential retirement money, from my working days. Two small pensions (total: ~$560/mo) and 2 lump sum retirement payments (total-~$44k). If they're correct, I'll hold off on the pensions until age e65, and roll the lump sums into my IRA. Found money!

Meantime, we're down to only 1 college tuition, so we should be feeling flush, once I get through this.
