Happy New Year! I am here joining in with my finance goals. Our only debt left is my student loans, which are eligible for PSLF. But I still have some other things I'd like to accomplish, so hopefully you guys will keep me around
First off, my year is off to a rough start. My mom and I are both horseback riders and her horse had a freak accident and fell on her last week while she was riding. It broke her collar bone and a rib and she will need surgery on the collar bone (hopefully this week). With that being said...
1. My first goal is to not turn to convenience items when times get tought- fast food, take out, Starbucks to keep me going. I spent entirely too much on starbucks and eating out last year, and the reality is that the quality of these food items are no longer even worth the cost. I know that my mom is going to be essentially out of commission for the next 3 months and I will have to handle the bulk of caring for her and our farm, so I'm really going to focus on meal prepping and avoiding take out during this time.
2. Continue to invest, particularly so while the stock market is down. I feel like everyone is clambering over the fact that we're going into a recession in the first two quarters of 2023 (if you ask me, we've been in a recession since last summer, but I digress). We are fortunate to have relatively recession-proof jobs and I would like to put as much money into the down stock market as we can during this time. I don't have a specific number in mind yet, but I want to do more than the normal monthly amount we put in.
3. Maximize cashback/coupons/rebates. I used to be so great about utilizing cashback apps and different coupons, but have really fallen off the wagon in the last couple years. I want to get this going again and be consistent with it, particularly as it relates to groceries.
4. Lose weight- for real. I am showing my horse this year and I need to lose 15 pounds to fit into my show clothes. They're too expensive to buy new, bigger sizes (think several hundred dollars per item of clothing), so I literally have to lose the weight.
Good luck to everyone this year!
