Debt Dumpers 2021

How did you redeem points for CSR? We used to be able to book Disney hotels with Chase Ultimate Reward points but of course, they had to stop that. I don't know why they care if they get paid by us or by Chase. Either way they get paid.

Go to the rewards portal and choose "Pay Yourself Back." You can redeem points for dining, gas or grocery purchases going back 90 days. The redemption value is 1.5x points, so as an example 50,000 points would get you a $750 credit. It's instantaneous and gets applied as a credit to your account. Do this until April 30 for the bonus 1.5x redemption. After this, it will be 1x cash back like it used to be. I've been doing it every month since September.

I get it. I've been doing this since you mentioned it a few weeks ago. Under normal times without the 1.5x redemption, it wouldn't be such a good trade. It would take us a loooong time to save up for a Disney trip but at least it is possible. Do they let you pay yourself back for travel?

You can redeem points directly to book travel through the Chase portal. But I think maybe you can also do pay yourself back for travel expenses, yes.

I clicked on the ultimate rewards, and there's a banner for Pay Yourself Back and a "find out more" button, or on the far left dropdown menu, also that button. Then, all the potential purchases in categories that one could use points for is there, goes back 90 days. The transactions will show an original amount of points value crossed out, and then the 50% more points value.

For example (this isn't one I'm going to use points for) we have a Hope Depot purchase of $9.85 back in January. It shows 985 points crossed off, and the 50% more value points of 656. So, if I wanted to use the CSR reward points, that Home Depot purchase will cost 656 points. You can click on up to 12 at a time and hit continue. Or, if unsure, click on one and watch the points total go down so you can tell it works.

I don't know about that on the Pay Yourself Back, but I know dining, groceries, home improvement, charity organizations are. But, DH's CSR didn't have any travel transactions in the last 90 days. On my CSP I had two travel categories, and strangely one is eligible on the Pay Yourself Back page to use points for, and the other isn't there. Both are definitely labeled as travel by Chase.

Oh-and another thing on the points, you can't change categories and use the points that way. Well, we tried and it didn't work. We had a place we dined at that is definitely a restaurant and we bought for our large party, so had a large bill over $200, but once it posted codes as entertainment! It's family though, and we don't often pick up tabs so we aren't upset about it. But, lesson learned on Chase. Even though I changed the category myself, it doesn't show up in the PYB area. We called Chase, they said so sorry, but no dice, but here's 400 points for your trouble.

I think that's a good amount of time to enjoy the parks, and you saved money on the shorter package. We went on our most recent trip with no big expectations except to hope to get a boarding group on RotR, and that's it. We even adjusted our thoughts as we went, dropping several dining reservations and adjusting our ideas on when to go or come back from the park. I just relooked my calculations on the cost after doing the points redemption on CSR. We spent more frivolously I think knowing we were going to redeem points. For dining/food, shopping, memory maker, dog boarding, airport parking, transport, and tips, (and not accounting for lodging and park tickets cost in this calculation), we spent just a little over $1400 for 9 nights, 7 park days.

Now I see our miscommunication. Where you were talking about visiting WDW and mentioned redeeming points on CSR, you were talking about Chase Sapphire Reserve, whereas I was implying you were talking about Coronado Springs Resort.
This is why I thought you were able to redeem points directly for your Disney stay.

I have used our CSP to book travel through the Chase portal at 1.5x point value. It used to be that you could search under redeem for travel and search hotels and book a Disney hotel. The one and only time we did this was in early 2017. The next time I tried to, our search results showed no Disney hotels and I read somewhere that Disney has removed their hotels from that portal. I don't really understand why it matters to them, they still get paid either way.

so..........after watching the 2 most recent episodes of 'hoarders' i've come to the conclusion that it's a great resource to discourage spending money. neither of the last 2 homes featured were nausea inducing filthy but rather just piles and piles of newly purchased items most still in the original bags and boxing they arrived in. the amounts of money the homeowners wasted away was staggering. i think keeping an episode on the dvr and referring back to it if the urge to buy something pops up might be beneficial.

I'm a huge fan of that show! Didn't see the most recent episode, but the one before that (the guy from Fredericksburg) was incredible. So much stuff just sitting there collecting mold!

I got the Pfizer vaccine, have to do round two when I get the email. Injection area was sore by night and more sore all the next day, no other issues. Pet peeve of the term "needles in arms" on government briefs, just say vaccinate!

So funny you say that about the "needles in arms." You're like the third person I know that's complained about the phrase haha.

I was just going to post that I realized there was this miscommunication as well! Funny!

I agree. It’s like other words or phrases I don’t like, like “adulting” and “baby bump.”

I guess each decade has its buzz words. The 70’s were groovy and far out. The 80’s had barf out and gag me with a spoon. Totally!
Hmm. The 90’s and 2000’s were too busy to recall

I feel like this is the appropriate time to try and make "that's so fetch" a thing. 🤣🤣
(Please someone, anyone, get the reference so I don't feel old)
Sorry, never heard of it. My slightly younger coworker says the same. Maybe it’s a regional thing.
