Debt Dumpers - 2015

I'd like to join the group - would love to have a bit of support as I tackle my cc debt. I don't have any student loan payments or a car payment but I do have about 20k in cc debt. I also have a house that I'm hoping to sell this spring. Plan is to use any money I make from the house (after the realtors take their 6%) to pay off the highest interest rate card (about 3k balance) and then use the money I was paying to that one to add to the payments for my next highest rate card (about $9,500 balance). The remaining cards all have 0% interest rates so those will be paid off last. I really do need a new (to me) vehicle soon since I've had this one for 12 years but I want to get the cc debt under control first. My goal is to be completely out of cc debt in 2 years or less.

Look forward to reporting in once my house sells and the first card is paid off! Fingers crossed for a strong housing market during the next few months!

Also, if anyone knows how to add a profile pic I'd love to know - can't figure it out! :crazy2:

At the top of this page there is a dark blue bar that says Home Forums Media on the left and it should say Dentam Inbox Alerts on the right. Click on your screen name, then avatar, and then load a picture.

On the profile pic, I think I just did a drag and drop on my profile page.

I have a question to pose. I should be able to file my taxes this week, so my refunds should be in around March 11. I leave for DisneyLand on the 21. My cc close out for the month on the 3, 8, and 12. The ones I'll pay off close on 3 and 12. I prefer to buy my tickets in advance, and I need to buy the memory maker at least 14 days in advance, for the discount.

So, should I go ahead and use one of the cc I'm gonna pay off with my refund and buy my tickets and MM on March 1, and just "transfer" that amount from my vacation fund to the "payoff" account, or wait and hope the state refund comes in early, and I'll have time to purchase the tickets and MM by the 2 week deadline and that Disney doesn't raise ticket prices before I can buy them.

I'm leaning toward using the cc, and make the purchase around the 5th which would be after the 3rd closing date. Though, if I hear Disney is raising ticket prices, I'm buying them that day.

And yes I know this is a debt dumping thread, but the reservations were made, non-refundable, last summer when I _thought_ the SO was going to cease being a leech and start contributing. That was a misconception I was cured of quickly. :-(

Yeah, I tried that as soon as I signed up (and multiple times since) and it says I'm not authorized to do it. Strange...

Exact message I always get is: An Error Has Occurred - You do not have permission to view this page or perform this action.

Tried drag and drop as well and no luck there either. Oh well.

I was wondering if that might be it - do you know how many posts I'll need to make before I can add an avatar?

Guess I'll just try to post instead of lurking on a lot of these threads and see how it goes! Kind of weird to me that you wouldn't be able to do this as soon as you sign up.

I know under the old version, you had to have like 10 posts before you could include links. Maybe this is something similar?:confused3

Just checked again and it's working now! Just need to choose a pic... it must be because I have 12 posts now. :)

Good news, I got my taxes finished.

Less good news, I could have finished 2 weeks ago. The documents I was waiting for I didn't need - didn't earn enough in dividends to be reported.

Less bad news, I found an error I had made and my refund is about $500 less than I thought.

Bad news, I'm not sure I'll get enough on my refunds to pay off both credit cards and my spring break trip.

I always end up owing so I'm procrastinating on my taxes! Glad you're getting money back, but bummer that it's less than you planned for.

The first year I owed, I changed my W-4 forms to hold out an excess of about $10 per week, or $50 per month. For both state and federal. I know that having extra held is just giving the government an interest free loan, but I struggle to save, so this way I never have to worry about paying AND by filing early enough it pays for spring break trips.
