Debt Dumpers - 2014

I know there are varies views of DR on this forum, but does anyone have any experience with their endorsed local providers for financial planning advise? How else did you find your financial planner?
I have never used one if his endorsed financial advisors. I'm not even sure if I know anyone who has. Sorry I couldn't be more help. I just took the class back in 2009. It helped me. Hopefully someone on this board will be able to guide you in the right direction.

Darn temptation.

I ordered Girl Scout cookies today.

They weren't budgeted, but they should have been. Guess that cuts the grocery budget by a bit.

I've been following along. Thanks for all of the posts.

One behavioral change that I've made: I'm listening and reading everything I can that endorses the idea of getting out of debt. Podcasts, articles, books-to fill my head with like-mindedness. This forum meets that criteria as well!

Yesterday I came to the point that I am willing to delay our next trip to Disney in order to really focus on our snowball and budget. So... delay? Yep. Willing to move that trip out indefinitely to ensure that we meet budget goals. If we don't?

Oh well, can't go.

Anybody else resisting the spoiled child inside who whines about no Disney this year?

When my daughters were younger, we would go every year. More than once a year on some years. After the divorce, I just couldn't do it. So I've had to say no for many years. It was so hard. The last time I was there with my girls was in 2005.
I'm remarried now and my kids are grown and on their own. So my husband is taking me at the end of the month for our anniversary. It makes it so much more exciting since it's been so long.
You will get to go again and you will be glad you have dumped some debt, if not all of it when you go.
It's hard to be a grown up, at least it was for me...:)

Here is a Government website that can give you a place to start, check out Brokers and Investment Advisors down to your local area. It is the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission there are links on this site that are very helpful.

Hope this helps:

Thanks for the welcome! :wave2: I'm looking forward to reading about other debt dumpers money saving ideas!

Luckily the student loans were for both my law degree and my husband's second degree (which is allowing him to work in a more lucrative field) so our income is enough to support the payments and will continue to grow. So while it's frustrating to have it, as you say, it's temporary while our earning potential is permanent (until we retire I guess!).

We also hang dry most of our things! I like it because it saves money on our gas bill and I also feel it makes my clothes last longer.

Our only expensive habit we have to break is restaurant dining and we've really cut down on that in the last month, which has been good. For us it is more of a convenience thing since we both work full-time, however with proper planning it's been easy to avoid and DH is an excellent cook so it doesn't feel like we're missing out!

I'm looking forward to trading tips/stories/encouragement!

:thumbsup2 Some times we forget why those Student Loans were taken out, your loans are an investment for your future.

I agree when you don't use the dryer clothes seem to look nicer and last longer. After the clothes are dry I would place them in the dryer for just a few minutes to get rid of that stiff feeling some of them seem to have.

Good Luck with the not eating out that can be a budget buster.

I just paid off my credit card!!!! I had plans to pay it off by February 6 so I'm 3 weeks ahead of schedule! Whoo hoo!!!!

My bonus check was WAY bigger than I estimated so I took the opportunity and ran with it. I originally thought about putting this on my car loan but now I can just add what I was going to pay on my cc to my car payment. That will save me a bit in interest.

I can also put away a bit towards the upcoming vacation. I bought our seat assignments this morning so we can sit together, $60 is well worth this in my eyes. We booked on southwest but it's an AirTran flight so we each get free bags which is nice.

I think I might celebrate tonight since it's just me and DS. I've got a gift card to Olive Garden or we can order a pizza. :) something small to celebrate a victory but you can bet I'll be dancing tonight!!!

That's so wonderful!!! Good job!! Definitely celebrate. You deserve it. What a great feeling to get rid of cc debt. Your car will be paid off before you know it. I remember the day I made the last payment on my car. It was amazing.

I am so excited.. well excited as I can be for an unplanned expense. :rotfl2: It only cost me $144 to fix my truck. I am glad the expense was so low as we just found out my DH's aunt only has a short time to live so he is meeting his sibilings and parents in the state where his aunt lives so they can all say their goodbye together. She lives several states away so I need to come up with around $300 for DH for the trip.

I can't wait until I can have a success to say I paid something off. Right now I will just be happy to make it through the month.

Here is hoping for a good Feb. pixiedust:

It's great news about your truck repairs being lower.

Sorry to hear the news about your DH's Aunt, loved ones should always come before worrying about the Budget.

You will succeed in your goals and Pay everything Off. You can do this...:woohoo:

Way to go on postponing the trip! You are definitely on track. You will enjoy the trip much more after paying your debt down. I have been postponing trips for the past two years, and still have to keep postponing for a while. Maybe do some daytrips with your child or just a night away in an area nearby that you can drive too?
