Debit Visa cards at Disney

Trying to figure out what are the best options for my high schooler when he goes on his band trip to Disney . I thought most Visa gift cards had a service fee so I was thinking of getting a Disney gift card instead but then I saw a 'debit' Visa gift card at the grocery store with no fees. How is this different from a Visa gift card? Can these Visa debit cards be used at Disney like a Visa or Disney gift card?

It's just a renaming of the card because Visa Gift cards can only be used at businesses that accept debit cards as payment. There may also be a pin required to activate and use the card. Is there an additional fee when you purchase this card? If so, a Disney Gift card is a better deal.

No additional fee to activate. So I guess my question should be if Disney accepts debit cards with PIN numbers?

Disney is set up for debit cards w/pin codes. Which would be easiest for your son? Disney gift card with no pin? There is a Disney Gift Card app that shows the card balance in real-time.

They are staying off-site though spending pretty much all day at Disney so I thought it would be good if he could use the debit Visa anywhere (e,g, for snacks at the hotel). Also, it seems that a debit Visa is more secure - can't be used by anyone else on the small chance it is lost.

The other plus for the Visa debit card is that if there is a balance, it can easily be used once he gets home. Because he's staying off-site, I'd go with the Visa debit as long as it is fee free.

Did a little more internet research and found a Chase Disney Debit Card - no fee card on my checking account. I trust him not to run down my account balance and this card will give him a few extra Disney perks such as discounts on dining. It also looks really cool - red with Mickey Mouse :thumbsup2

Cool! And, let him know he and his buddies can get their photo taken at the Chase Visa photo area in Epcot - Innoventions West - one free photo for him!

Also, every park and resort has Chase ATMs and he can access cash without any fees.

That is what I was going to suggest. Except I would take this one step out and open up a new joint account with him and get him his own card on that account. My reasoning is that with a joint account, you can keep an eye on his balance and add more money if you need to but at the same time, not have to worry about something happening to the card and your account getting jacked.

My son has had his own bank account and check card since he turned 9. My name is on the card because, by law, he can't have a card with is name on it until he is 13 - and, of course, the card is in my purse - but he has access to his allowance whenever he needs it.

Great idea - except I am doing all of this very last minute and he needs the card by Friday. So the most expedient solution was getting the debit card on my account.
