Debit cards for car rental !?

I know I read somewhere that car rental places do not accept debit cards for the rental, does anyone know if any of them do accept debit cards ?! what is someone supposed to do if they don't own a credit card ?!?!

If you are a member of #1 Hertz Gold you can rent with a debit card. It has to be in your profile.

I know there are other agencies that will run a credit check and then allow you to use a debit card.

I am sure others will post their experiences or you might want to do a search here on the DIS about it.

It depends on which agency you use.

National requires a credit card at check in, but you can pay with a debit card at the end of the rental.

Alamo allows you to use a debit card, but you must show proof of roundtrip travel.

Budget lets you use a debit card, but there's a hold placed on the funds for some $200 + 25% of your rental - I think... It's either 20 or 25%.

You really need to find out directly from your agency what the policy is.

I know Alamo does with proof of round trip tickets and possibly a deposit...I can't remember that part but I believe there is a deposit.

Rented from alamo at two different locations in Orlando, including the Dolphin. Was able to show a rt ticket, licence, and a debit card. That was it. No credit check or anything else. No pressure sales for ins either! It was quite easy actually
